Hello, everyone!!! I am so sorry for the extended absence. Life, ya know? Well, here is a new chapter! Please read and review! I hope you guys are liking the story so far! xoxoxo -K
The group ate breakfast in relative silence. Kagome sat under a tree studying her trigonometry text. She looked up when a shadow appeared over the pages.
“It’s time to go.” Said Inuyasha.
“OK.”
Kagome shoved her books into her backpack, and threw it on over her shoulders. Sango and Miroku were waiting with Kirara, and Shippo.
“You guys go ahead. We’ll catch up with you in a minute.”
They climbed on Kirara and rose above the trees. Kagome climbed onto Inuyasha’s back and he sprung up into the treetops.
“We should be there soon.” Inuyasha shouted to be heard over the wind. He landed on a tree branch, it cracked and he lost his footing. Kagome tumbled over his shoulder. He caught her wrist and pulled her up.
“You OK?”
“Yeah.” She brought her legs around Inuyasha waist, and they were off again.
It was only a half hour later when they landed in a clearing beside Sango, Miroku, Shippo and Kirara. Kagome’s eyes swept the village, and he heart plummeted to her stomach. The amount of freshly dug graves was extraordinary. The group walked up to where a woman was standing over a grave. A tear ran down her cheek.
“My son.” She sighed. She looked up at them, her eyes searching their faces. “I buried my husband last month.”
“We’re so sorry for your loss. We’re here to try to help. Can you tell us where we can find Kei-san?”
The woman pointed to a house that looked a little run down. They left the woman standing there, and headed for the house.
“Kei-san?”
“Come in” Came a hoarse reply.
A man sat cross legged by the fire. He looked up at his quests with bright, questioning eyes.
“I’m Inuyasha, this is Kagome, Miroku, Sango, Kirara, and Shippo. We were hoping you could give us some answers.”
The man nodded for them to join him. They all took a seat by the fire. Inuyasha stuffed his hands into his shirt.
“What is causing this drought?” Kagome asked. “We are all going to die from dehydration, or starvation.”
“I wish I new. But there is only one of us who has the power to find the answer…and that’s you.”
“What?!” They all shrieked.
Kei-san looked up surprised. “You are a miko, right?”
She nodded.
“You are a guardian of the jewel…use the jewel.”
“But…it doesn’t work anymore. How am I supposed to contact Midoriko?!”
“That’s not something I can tell you. But I’m sure you’ll figure it out.”
Kagome looked at her companions…all wearing annoyed looks. She sighed. “Great!” She shouted. She
stood up and left the building. Inuyasha followed her. She sat on a log fingering the jewel. She looked up at the sky. Inuyasha sat beside her.
“Well. Aren’t you going to say I told you so? Rub it in?”
“You know, I would, but I don’t have the energy. All I want NOW is to…” She trailed off.
“You want?”
“I want…to…move on with my life.”
“But Kagome you can’t give up! We know it has to do…”
“I know, Inuyasha, I know. You’re not listening to me.”
“Huh?”
Kagome sighed. “Yesterday, when you asked me if I wanted a family someday…well, I do, Inuyasha. And I want it to be with you!”
“What?”
“You heard me! I know you know how I feel about you, dammit! Why do we keep acting like nothing is going on between us?”
“But…”
“You can deny it if you want to.”
“Whoa! Who’s denying it?” They paused for a second, looking quite puzzled.
“I’m in love with you, Inuyasha. I think I have been ever since we first met.” She looked away avoiding his gaze…she didn’t want to see the rejection in his eyes if she was mistaken. He pulled her close.
“You love me?” he asked. She nodded. “I love you, too.” She pulled back to look at him. “Yes, dummy! Would I risk my life time and time again for someone if I didn’t really care for them?”
“But…” He cut off her sentence with a kiss. She started to pull back, but Inuyasha wouldn’t let her. Unfortunately, a second later they were jostled apart by an earthquake. They stumbled to their feet Inuyasha drew tetseiga and stood in a fighting stance. Kagome drew her bow and arrow.
“Something’s coming.”
