Fate

Author's Note:
Thank you guys for the reviews. They're really great, very motivating. Sorry for not being more informative. I just had all these ideas in my head and I wanted to get them written down before I forget. As for the question so far, they will be answered (more or less) in future chapters. If not, I'll just have to make something up..*heh*.

Chapter 5: Fate

Sesshomaru left Kagome sleeping in his chambers. He went down to his study to ponder over these events. The fact that he kidnapped Kagome and brought her to his home and in his own private room was totally out of character. Before, when he felt the need to rut, he would take the female in a different room. He does not exactly know why. Probably because they are not worthy enough or because he didn’t trust the female enough to leave her in a room filled with priceless artifacts, his most treasured possessions. He found it strange and disturbing.

Well anyway, the fact of the matter is that he has limited time, about a month or so, to figure things out before Inuyasha’s posse barges into his home, demanding the return of Kagome. Knowing them, they are probably making their way west right at this moment.

He focused onto the task at hand. Why did he bring her home? He wanted to find out for sure if she was the woman from his dreams. He knew that much, but why in his room? The castle has about 50 other chambers he could keep her in. All these questions and he had no answer to any of them. But now isn’t the time to search for explanations. He had some work to do. Maybe this would distract him a bit.

“Are you sure it was Sesshomaru, Sango?” Inuyasha asked, clearly agitated. He found no trace of his scent anywhere.

Sango sighed. “For the hundredth time, Inuyasha, yes! I still remember his face, staring at me with those golden eyes.”

Inuyasha was irritated. He already had the world on his shoulders; he sure did not need this. His thoughts were focused on Kikyo. They were supposed to meet last night, same place, and same time. They promised to each other they would. He waited for her there. At first he thought she must’ve been delayed by something but she never showed. He couldn’t even take a few days off to search for her because now Kagome was kidnapped by his arrogant brother Sesshomaru. What does he want with her anyway, probably exchange her for his sword? That couldn’t be it, he gave up years ago. And what about the matter with Kikyo. Has she gone to hell? Maybe she forgot. He needed to know. Right now, the group made their way to Sesshomaru’s castle. Inuyasha didn’t know what else to do so he followed along with Miroku’s suggestion.

In Sesshomaru’s castle, dwells the wise healer, Onagure. She has been around for years. Nobody knew exactly how long, but she was old enough to have delivered the great Inutaisho, Sesshomaru’s father, himself. Onagure saw the young miko her lord brought home. A crooked smile contorted her wrinkled face. She knew of his dreams and the reasons behind it. It was Fate. Sesshomaru’s fate has been decided and he will live it out as such. How does she know? Because she was the one who wrote down his destiny. Yes, Onagure was Fate herself. Nobody knew of this fact and she was determined that no-one ever will.

She had her reasons. Onagure pitied Sesshomaru. All his life, he has been alone. He was a strong man though, exceeding immense powers beyond her imagination. It was his defense against the cruel world. Long ago, when Sesshomaru was but a young boy, his mother died and his father took a human woman for his mate. Sesshomaru was shunned and looked down upon in youkai society after that. His father kept the ningen in his palace and she birthed a hanyou soon after. Inutaisho’s reputation suffered because of this action and so did Sesshomaru’s.

Sesshomaru grew up too fast. But he grew up alone, not knowing love or care or acceptance. He thought if he was powerful, no-one needed to love him, just respect him out of fear. That’s exactly what he did. He put on an impenetrable mask of cruelty and superiority. He became the strongest of the strong; a wise leader too. His kingdom, in Onagure’s opinion, was more powerful than the North, South and East combined.

The women loved him too; he was the handsomest youkai in Japan. Sesshomaru ignored all of them though, occasionally taking one for his pleasure. He knew what they were after, his power and wealth. All women are like that. He didn’t bother even looking at ningen. His father’s downfall was caused by a human, resulting in Sesshomaru’s disposition at such a young age.

Onagure knew Sesshomaru deserved more. After all she did mean for Inutaisho to meet the human princess, thus settling his fate. This made her a guilty party of the things that happened to the taiyoukai. He deserved to be loved by someone beautiful and powerful; selfless and generous. Kagome fit that bill. Though she was human, she was perfect for Sesshomaru. That’s why Onagure brought forth those dreams upon the killing perfection. He wouldn’t see her as a potential mate on his own so Onagure took it upon herself to give him a bit of a nudge. That’s what Fate does, meddle into everyone’s lives.

So now sat Sesshomaru’s destiny in Onagure’s book, sealed and delivered. No going back, no revisions. Kagome was to be Sesshomaru’s mate and that’s that.

Onagure smiled once again. “This is one of the most interesting fates I’ve written in a long while. It would be very interesting and entertaining indeed.”

I hoped you enjoyed that as much as I had fun writing it. I may be getting a bit overexcited though but I'm trying to keep the chapters as short, but informative, as possible so as not to bore or confuse you. Looking forward to the sixth chapter...
