Later in the evening Inuyasha returned from Totosai’s; his hand massaging his cheek and strings of curses flowing from his mouth about the sword smith. Choosing not to ask questions Sango merely dished him up some food and they both ate quietly, watching the sunset through their window and listened as the crickets began to chirp in the growing darkness.
The next two days were uneventful; the days were mostly filled with talking to each other or to the guests that would frequent the hut and the night’s contained a stealthy Sango sneaking over and sleeping with Inuyasha.
Nearing the end of the second day Inuyasha and Sango were waiving to Kaede and Shippo as they walked along the dirt path heading back to the village. As soon as they went behind the bend of trees on the path both Inuyasha and Sango breathed a sigh of relief.
“I thought they would never leave. I know Kaede means well but does she have to poke and prod at EVERY open wound?”
*giggle* “I know what you mean Inuyasha; although I don’t think I’ve ever heard you complain about Kaede’s methods before. Is something wrong?”
“Eh? No, I guess it’s just because tonight is the night of the new moon and I guess I’ve already started to turn human. Whenever I start to transform I always get a little sensitive.”
“That’s right, I nearly forgot! It is a new moon tonight. I guess that means I’ll have to keep an ear out for anything unusual tonight.”
“Yeah, well better start putting those ears to work.” Said Inuyasha and he leaned on the windowsill and gazed at the tree line with the stars just beginning to appear. “The sun just set and you know as well as I that some nasty demons are out at dark.”
Sango nodded her head but was not paying attention to what he said. Instead she watched in awe as Inuyasha slowly transformed to his human form. First his ears disappeared and then his silver hair slowly faded to a dull grey then to an inky black. When Inuyasha moved from the window and sat back down near the fire pit Sango stole a quick glance at his face. While his transformation had softened his features slightly Inuyasha still held his intense looks. His eyes darkened from bright gold to a deep rich brown but still held the vibrant spark in them. His claws had retracted to human nails and his fangs transformed into normal teeth.
Incredible. He looks so… normal; so weak. Right now I’m probably stronger than he is. I force him to do whatever I want. I could kiss him…and he would kiss me back. I would slowly remove his shirt and kiss him softly moving down agonizingly slow until I got to his pants. Then I would…I would… I…)
“Something on your mind Sango?” Inuyasha said with his arms folded across his chest and his classic impatient frown on his face.
Startled out of her ogling, Sango blushed as she noticed Inuyashas displeasure in her unwanted attention of his transformation.
“Uh, sorry Inuyasha.” She said looking away
(Gods I’m so embarrassed! What’s happening to me? Ever since the last battle with Naraku I’ve been feeling different. My hearing has improved as well as my eyesight and sense of smell. And those dreams… I’ve never had dreams like those before. Could Naraku have done something to me? Maybe cast a spell on me to make me feel differently about Inuyasha? I don’t know. Maybe I should talk to Kaede or Kagome about this.)
Sango looked at Inuyasha. He was sitting across from her his attention focused on the flickering flames of the fire that burned in the pit. He did not look particularly mad at her but just overall uneasy about her staring at him.
(For now I think I should keep my distance from Inuyasha lest I do something I might regret later.)
The next few hours passed in silence; only the sound of the crackling fire and the wind in the branches where all that was heard. Both Inuyasha and Sango had thought of breaking the silence but were unsure of what to say. Nothing seemed right. But it seemed that the gods were going to give them a break. Sango was first to hear the unnatural sound from the forest. The sound of heavy footsteps is what she heard, thudding in the soft earth heading towards them. Ignoring the burning pain of her still tender wounds Sango grabbed her Hiraikotsu and rushed out of the hut to meet the creature that was headed towards them. Inuyasha came out moments later and both waited in silence as they heard the footsteps growing louder and closer.
The large beast tore through the tree line tossing them in the air is if they were weightless. It walked on two legs but was hunched close the ground. Its arms and legs were thick and muscular and its entire body was covered in blood red hair. It had enormous bat-like wings and its face held two pitch black orbs for eyes and dozens of sharp fangs. Extending its foot long tongue it licked its drooling maw and gave out an animalistic roar.
“Inuyasha stand back. You wouldn’t last a second in your condition.”
“Oh yeah and you can defeat it?!”
“It’s a demon. I’m a demon slayer. You figure it out.”
Sango charged the demon and threw her Hiraikotsu. Her boomerang rocketed towards the demon striking it square in the chest. The demon grunted in pain stumbled back a few steps and snarled as Hiraikotsu returned to its owner. Taking the offensive the demon moved to attack Sango. With a roar it charged at her on all fours rapidly closing the distance between them. The demon was only a yard away when Sango managed to launch her Hiraikotsu again. Just seconds before impact with the giant boomerang the demon spread out its massive wings and with a mighty flap was launched into the starlit sky.
Glaring down at her the demon growled and opened its maw; a growing light emanating from deep within its gullet. Before Sango could make a move the demon launched an enormous fireball from its mouth aimed directly at her. A split-second later the fireball struck a cloud of smoke rising from the still burning fires around the point of impact. With a snort of satisfaction the demon flew off in Inuyashas direction but did not get far. As soon as the demon turned its back on the rising cloud of smoke Hiraikotsu shot out from the smoke and headed straight for the oblivious demon. Sangos aim was true. Hiraikotsu struck the dead center of the demon and cleaved it in two. Stepping out from the smoke Sango was slightly singed but fine.
(That was easy. To easy. Something’s not right.)
A sudden cry of pain startled Sango from her thoughts. Racing towards the origin of the sound she came upon Inuyasha pinned to the ground by a sword through his shoulder. A demon stood over him; its eyes glowing a familiar red. Grabbing the sword with both hands it slowly twisted it sending shocks of pain through Inuyashas shoulder. Then it spoke.
“Inuyasha you may have destroyed my body but I will destroy your soul! DIE INUYASHA!!!”
Well that certainly took longer than I expected. Sorry about the leave of absence folks, believe me I didn’t mean for it to happen. Life has been very hectic and has only recently calmed down some. I will try to get back into the swing of writing again but it might take me awhile so please bear with me. Well I gotta get going. E-mail me if you have anything you want to ask me. Holywarrior_1@hotmail.com if you can’t remember. Oh and by the way I just started a myspace web page so if you want to take a look at my ugly mug to see what I really look like here’s the URL: http://www.myspace.com/holywarrior_1 Later!
