Blood Given, Blood Received

Kagome was in and out a lot, mumbling incoherently. Sesshomaru’s worry and anger was apparent. He told his vassals that he was only worried because he needed her alive to capture Inuyasha, but he was angry at himself. He couldn’t understand why he cared so much if she lived, but he knew it had nothing to do with his plan.

Every waking minute was an anxious, stressing moment. Sesshomaru knew Kagome was getting worse and he constantly badgering his doctors to find a cure. He knew his poison would kill her soon if it wasn’t treated. Every time though, they came back with the same answer. He now spent hours on end in his work out room, trying to drain himself of his frustration.

It had been almost four days since the incident and he stubbornly called for his lead doctor. The news was somewhat better. The doctors had discovered a plant that could bring her around to consciousness for a few minutes and it fought the poison, but the poison would quickly over take the plant’s effects.

“We have an idea, though, Lord Sesshomaru.” He lifted an eyebrow to signal for the doctor to continue. Giving a small hiccup, the doctor continued in his mono-toned voice. “We have a theory that some of your blood may heal her, if not completely, then at least enough so she can fight the rest of it.”

“What do you mean” Sesshomaru growled in his frustration at the doctor’s riddles.

“You are immune to your poison, my lord. Your very genetics-”

“I know that,” Sesshomaru growled menacingly.

“Well, a little of your blood to mix with hers will give her the power to fight the poison.” The little doctor was fairly quaking with fear at what he was suggesting.

“Change her to a half-demon,” Sesshomaru growled in thought. Motioning with his hand, Sesshomaru led the doctor towards Kagome’s room. He could smell her heady scent mixed with her coppery blood. His jaw twitched in a secret worry.

“Give her the plant,” Sesshomaru ordered in his cold detached voice. He watched as the doctors made a strong poultice. Sitting the young woman up, they fed her the goop. Waiting impatiently, Sesshomaru watched as she slowly came around.

“How are you feeling, Lady Kagome,” one of the young doctors asked.

Kagome tried her best to smile. “A little better, I suppose,” she told them bravely. Her eyes turned to Sesshomaru and her cheeks reddened. “I am terribly sorry, Lord Sesshomaru. I never meant to overhear you.”

Sesshomaru stopped her apologies with an idle wave of his hand. “The doctors have found a way to heal you,” he told her. Kagome gave him a thankful look. “Don’t look so happy,” he reprimanded. “To do this I have to give you some of my blood.” Kagome just stared at him with a bare minimum of understanding. “I have to turn you into a half-demon with my blood,” he clarified for her.

“Oh,” she whispered. She looked at Sesshomaru and a slight fear entered her eyes. Stepping closer to her, Sesshomaru shooed the doctors to the other end of the room, away from Kagome and himself.

“Kagome, please, trust me,” he pleaded with her in a soft voice. He still wore his emotionless face, but his voice conveyed his worries and fears. “I’ll be here to help you through it.” Kagome looked into his beautiful amber eyes and saw that he looked at her the way she used to dream Inuyasha would.

Giving a firm intake of breath, Kagome nodded. Sesshomaru gave a sigh only she could hear that was filled with relief. Watching her eyes, he drew one of his long nails across his arm. A cup sat on the table bedside. Grabbing it, he allowed a half of the cup to fill with his life’s fluid. Concentrating, he healed his cut over cleanly.

“Drink, Kagome,” he commanded, his hard voice coming over him again. Kagome took one more searching look at his eyes before starting to gulp the blood. It wasn’t coppery, like human blood, but spicier. It seemed as if pepper flowed in his blood veins.

The doctors watched intently for the signs of the blood mixing within her. They found it when she suddenly collapsed. The bloody cup rolled across the floor, empty. Sesshomaru jumped up in shock, but kept it masked. He watched as Kagome’s body shuttered and convulsed. She didn’t make a sound, but her body responded as if electricity was coursing through her.

Sesshomaru watched in anguish as demon qualities started to manifest themselves. On both of her cheeks, identical black stripes appeared. Her ears changed and grew to look like Inuyasha’s, except as black as her hair. Her hands gripped the sheets in her silent pain. Sesshomaru noticed the rents that her new claws ripped open. Suddenly, she was still. Sesshomaru leaned forward a little in his worry. He leaned back quickly, however, when Kagome’s eyes snapped opened.

The blood red eyes that greeted him testified to the success of their experiment.
