CHAPTER 3

“Kagome! Come on! Rise and shine! We’re going to be late for class!” Sango yelled, and knocked on Kagome’s door.

Kagome looked at her clock. It read 7:45. Her eyes widened, and in her haste to get out of bed she got tangled in her sheets, and hit the floor with a thud.

“Hey! You okay?!”

Kagome scrambled to her feet. “Ugh! Yeah! My alarm never went off! Damn!” She pulled her tights and leotard on, and then pulled on a gray sweat-suit. She grabbed her dance bag and ran out the apartment with Sango.
When they reached the studio, the other students were already warming up. Kagome and Sango took their places at the bar. The teacher scowled at them, and shook her head.

“First position, ladies. And demi-plie…and grand-plie…”

The class lasted an hour and a half. Their next class was a nutrition class, and then it was time for lunch. When they left the classroom, Sango took Kagome’s hand and led them to where Miroku and Inuyasha were practicing with the orchestra. They slipped into the auditorium, and sat in the back row.

Kagome could tell that they were playing a concerto by Bach, and she watched Inuyasha as he played. She could see the concentration on Inuyasha’s face and on Miroku’s face, as well. She felt a strong sense of admiration for her new friends. Kagome knew they were as dedicated to music, as she was to ballet.

The song ended, and the rest of the players packed away their instruments. However, Inuyasha and Miroku stayed behind. Kagome looked questioningly at Sango. Sango smiled.

“It’s something they’ve been working on since last year. They have it in their heads to become world famous composers.”

Kagome nodded and turned her attention back to the stage. She rested her arms on the back of the seat in front of her, and put her chin on her crossed arms. (A/N: This was hard to describe so that it wouldn’t seem too technical or detailed…I think you guys know what I mean. If anyone can come up with a better description, please let me know. Thanx!) She closed her eyes and listened to the music. It was a beautiful piece of music, and Kagome knew they had a bright future ahead of them. After they finished, they packed up their instruments, and headed for the back of the auditorium. Sango rushed from the row where they were sitting, and ran straight at Miroku. He sat down his cello, and was almost knocked off his feet as he lifted her and spun her around.

“It sounds great! You guys should be so proud!” She squeaked, and kissed him.

Kagome stood as Inuyasha came closer. He smiled. “So what did you think Kagome?”

“It was beautiful, really. Is it almost finished?”

“Almost.” Miroku said.

“And about damn time to, huh, Miroku.” Inuyasha said jovially.

Miroku nodded, and they all laughed. “So where are we going for lunch?” Sango asked as they exited the building.

“How about Dante’s? But I want to show you guys something first.” Miroku smirked. Sango and Kagome looked at Inuyasha who had a big Cheshire cat grin on his face.

The girls looked at each other. “Uh Oh!” They said in unison.

A short while later they pulled up in front of a beautiful Victorian looking building. It was brown bricks, and had stained glass windows.

“What is this place?” Kagome asked.

“Hopefully our new home.” Inuyasha said.

“What?”

“Well, we were thinking that it would be cheaper and quieter if we lived off campus.” Miroku said. “Besides the place was a steal.”

“Yeah, but it needs A LOT of work. You ladies up for a challenge?” Inuyasha asked.

Kagome looked at Sango and smiled. “Oh, I think we can manage. Sango?”

Sango threw her arms around her fiancé, and kissed him. “Mmmhmmm.” She mumbled against his mouth.

“It’s settled then. We’ll start fixing the place up this weekend!” Inuyasha said. Inuyasha looked at Kagome, and noticed she was looking at the building with a melancholy look on her face. “What is it, Kagome?”

“Well, um…you guys are such good friends…and I just moved here…”

“And?” Inuyasha added.

“And, well, um…are you sure it’s ok for me to move in…”

“Of course, Kagome!” Sango said. “You’re stuck with us whether you like it or not.” She grinned and stepped over to hug Kagome.

“Let’s go! I want you guys to see the inside!” Miroku said, grabbing Sango’s hand and pulling her inside.

Kagome looked up at the building. Her heart sped up when she felt Inuyasha take her hand, and tugged her along after him.

The inside was dusty and musty smelling. The house could use a new coat of pain, and the rugs definitely had to go. However, the appliances, plumbing and electric seemed to be in excellent condition.

Kagome wondered into one of the bedrooms. It faced towards the back of the house, and surprisingly, a yard. A small yard, but a yard none the less.

“Ready to go?” Inuyasha asked.

Kagome jumped and turned, her hand resting against her heart. Inuyasha chuckled. Kagome scowled at him.

“You have GOT to stop sneaking up on me like that! Yeah, let’s go! I’m starving.”

Dante’s was crowded as usual. It was a small Italian restaurant, and it was always busy. They decided they would wait, since every other restaurant would probably be just as crowded. After about 20 minutes, they were seated and the waitress took their order.

“So how do you like New York so far Kagome?” Inuyasha asked.

“I haven’t been here that long, but it’s great! I’m lucky to have good friends like you guys.”

“That’s right! And don’t you forget it.” Sango said.

Kagome noticed Inuyasha stiffen as a couple was seated a few tables away. The woman had long coal colored hair, deep brown eyes, and she was wearing a navy suite.

“Shit.” Inuyasha growled.

“What is it?” Kagome asked. Kagome looked at the girl. ‘Wow. She kind of looks like me.’ She thought.

The girl seemed to notice Inuyasha. She excused herself from her companion, and came over to their table.

“Inuyasha?”

“Kikyou.”

‘Oh. She’s his ex-girlfriend.’ Kagome realized.

“How are you?”

Kagome looked around the table and noticed Miroku and Sango glaring at the girl.

“Fine.” He mumbled. “Excuse me.” Inuyasha stood and headed for the bathrooms.

“And you are?” She asked looking at Kagome.

“I’m Kagome.”

Kikyou held out her hand. Kagome was going to shake her hand, but Miroku pushed her hand away. Kikyou looked a little hurt.

“Well, it was nice meeting you Kagome.” She smiled at Kagome.

Kagome politely smiled back. Kikyou turned from the table without another word, and walked back to her table.

“I’m going to go check on Inuyasha.” Miroku said, rising from the table.
