Chapter Five
Rin examined the large room once more, waiting until the servant had left her. Yomi had shown her the room only to leave with Jaken in tow minutes later. So she was to share a room with him, also learn from him. He was being pleasant now, she was still angry. It was already getting late, her eyes were burning slightly. She would have to go to sleep soon, she just wasn't sure where to lay down. He'd only said something about sharing his room, not where to crash. There was only the large bed, the same one she'd been bouncing on earlier. It was his room so he'd sleep on that most likely. There was a small couch in the corner, a love seat.
She made her way over, it was big enough for someone her size. Maybe she was to sleep here. Yomi would take his bed and she didn't want to sleep on the floor not when something softer was available. Hopefully he wouldn't get too mad finding her there. The seat turned out to be a little harder than the bed but was comfortable enough for her to sleep on. The arm would serve as a pillow, no blankets were needed since it was warm inside the room.
She closed her eyes, trying to fall asleep. She knew the others wouldn't be sleeping as of yet, they always got up later than she. Traveling with Sesshoumaru had taught her to get up with the rising of the sun. After all these years the habit still remained. Her stomach growled not having eaten anything all day. They'd been too preoccupied trying to find everyone. She'd have to ask about food in the morning before she started her first day of training.
Yomi came into the room silently praying that he wouldn't find her jumping on his bed again. He'd left over two hours ago to show the imp where he'd stay then had a long talk to him. He wanted to know the background information on the girl. Jaken had informed him that his Lord had found the girl one day, after she'd been killed by wolves. A child at the time she'd followed them, eventually becoming the inuyoukai's ward. The imp was forthcoming with the information, Yomi was sure it was due to fear. It had poured off the little man. Yomi informed him that he would take over the place as his retainer since Rin was now his mate and had no need for one. Jaken had stuttered at first but agreed.
Then he'd went to find his old retainer and his son's new mate. The woman had smiled upon seeing him, he could feel the excitement radiating off her body. He stopped in front of her long enough to state that her services as a retainer were no longer needed. She replied, "Of course" in a very sweet voice but Yomi could feel her anger. The woman hadn't been pleased with the news, so she'd brought up the fact that she was now Shura's mate. All he had to say was that he'd always known his son was a fool. She bristled under the insult but refrained from talking, knowing not to anger him.
The sound of even breathing greeted him coming from the chair. He frowned wondering why she was sleeping there instead of in the bed. The temperature had dropped in the last hour, she must be cold laying there. He made his way over to the bed to pull the covers down. He could make out her tiny form starting to shiver from the chill in the air. She weighed almost nothing as he picked her up to carry her over to the bed.
He took his time stripping off his clothing pondering what to do. His normal habit was to sleep in the nude but how would she take to waking up next to him without a stitch of clothing on? A hysterical girl wasn't something he wanted to deal with in the middle of the night. Yet the thought of trying to sleep in the constricting bindings of clothes didn't appeal to him. Figuring he'd wake up long before her, he took everything off and climbed under the covers.
The bed was big enough for both of them, he tried to keep distance between them. He wasn't sure how he'd take to having someone share a bed with him. The girl was small enough she didn't take up much room so that wouldn't be a problem. She was moving already, rolling over to put her closer. He sighed hoping she wouldn't keep him up.
Sango was ready to grab Hiraikotsu and smash that sick bastard's head in. After being shown the room by Yomi, she'd looked around. A big part of her unease was knowing she was to share a room with that man. Things had only gotten worse from there. He'd come in bringing a tiger youkai, Sango didn't like the woman on sight. Her body language spoke alot of her character. She didn't think anyone could be more self absorbed as Shura, she'd been wrong.
Shura had informed her that after marking her he'd went and found the woman meant to be his mate. They were both going to share the room with him, she was on the floor. Sango knew she was lucky enough to have gotten a pillow and cover from him. Not caring that he had taken another mate, she'd eventually gotten ready for bed. Deciding it best to sleep fully dressed and with her sword in hand.
An hour after laying down her eyes had closed and she'd dozed off for some time. Then a loud noise had woken her up, she wished she hadn't. For over an hour she'd been laying here listening to the noises fill the room. The sound of skin slapping and moans bounced off the walls, all his. The noise constant the whole time, never letting up long enough for her to fall asleep. She was still a virgin but knew about sex and what it entailed. It should be pleasurable for both but the only thing she heard was him. Not once had she heard a feminine moan or noise. It left her to believe that either he really sucked or she was dead.
Sango was suddenly glad that she was being spared that part of the mating. She wanted to look up to see if the woman had fallen asleep on the man but refrained from doing so. Something told her, he wouldn't take kindly to her peeking at them. Not to mention seeing him naked wasn't something she wished to see. Every now and again she'd hear him make a comment, "You're so beautiful." "You're perfect and mine." Or what made her really want to laugh, "Feels good doesn't it?" She noticed the woman didn't voice a reply, not even a grunt in agreement.
Shura groaned in disappointement, noticing that he was starting to lose his erection. What was wrong with him? This was what he'd been wanting, longed for. She was finally his, laying under him. He opened his eyes to look down in her face and wished he hadn't. For a split second there'd been the look of boredom quickly replaced by a smile. Was he imagining things? So worried about pleasing her, he was scared she would find him lacking? His eyes lowered to roam over her large breasts. He took one into his palm, cupping it gently. Most women enjoyed this but it didn't get a reaction from her.
He'd been working at her for over an hour not including the foreplay and oral sex. She had willingly climbed into bed with him, saying she wanted it. Now he wasn't so sure, was something bothering her? Maybe it was because she hadn't been ready. It had taken him going down on her and licking to get her stimulated enough for him to enter. Not once had she let on that she was enjoying it.
His ears picked up a sound from the corner it almost sounded like a snort. He stopped knowing that the other girl was awake and listening. His movements picked up, he wanted to hear his woman cry out. Let the human bitch know what she was missing out on and would never have. She finally made a noise as he slammed into her hard enough to slam her head into the headboard.
A second later the sound of a slap filled the room. "You stupid shit, that hurt." Shura frowned when the woman pushed him off her, to get off the bed. "I'm leaving, I'll be back once you've gotten rid of that human. I can't enjoy myself knowing she's down there listening." He watched her grab the robe off the table and proceed to walk out.
Kagome rolled over, waking slowly from her slumber. For a brief second she wondered what had woken her, she sat up. Hiei was sleeping on the bay window while Sano was snoring on the pallet he'd placed on the floor. Neither moved while she scanned the area. What was bothering her? Everything was quiet, nothing out of place yet she couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
"What's wrong?" Hiei opened his eyes slowly to see her sitting up in the bed. A look of confusion and worry was plastered across her delicate features. He scanned the area, nothing was amiss. "Go back to sleep."
"I can't, something is wrong. I feel it." She threw her legs over the bed as her name was heard being shouted from the hall. Panic fill her at the hysterical scream. Even Hiei jumped at the sound, Sano rolled over and grunted. "Rin?"
Rin screamed for her friend as her feet pelted across the floor. She could hear Yomi screaming her name as if she'd lost her mind. She'd woken up several minutes ago upon feeling someone calling to her. At first she'd thought it a dream, then the tug became too strong to ignore. Her eyes had opened to see Yomi laying next to her in bed sound asleep. Believing that she had been dreaming, she closed her eyes once more. Then the call had come once more, from the couch. She sat up to see Tenseiga lying on the seat, a glow had begun around it. A voice had entered her head, a sad but calm one. It was telling her that danger was coming, look out the balcony. She knew not to ignore the fang that had once saved her life. Yomi was startled awake when she scrambled over him to run for the blade. As soon as it was in hand she ran out the door calling for the miko.
Kagome met her halfway, the feeling was getting stronger. "What is it?" She looked down when the fang pulsed a response only the small girl could understand. Yomi was standing at the entrance of the door, Hiei was behind her and the door next to them opened revealing Sango weapons ready.
"The balcony, she tells Rin to head for the balcony." Rin waited for Kagome to nod in agreement and went for the glass double doors. Footsteps echoed down the hall, Yomi's voice was heard telling them to stop their nonsense that nothing was amiss. Rin ignored her mate knowing he might get angry but she had to listen to her heart. She unlocked the doors, they swung open and she screamed.
A large face greatly resembling Jaken's with large horns blanketed the sky. Peering down at the city, only thirty feet from where they were now standing. Blood red eyes turned to them at the noise, the mouth which extended over twenty feet in width grinned. Rin took a step back in fear, to press against a hard chest.
"Hiei wake the others now." Yomi wasn't sure what it was but could now sense something up in the sky. He placed his hands on Rin's shoulders feeling her fear. The fire apparition ran back inside to get everyone else. Whatever it was, began to move, making it's way towards the city. "You three get back inside, we will handle this."
Kagome took a step forward. "I don't think so, you go back inside if you must. I have no intention of running or hiding." She notched an arrow ready incase it decided to come any closer. She blinked when Hiei appeared before her with a menacing look on his face. What was his problem? His hand landed on her arm causing her to lower the bow.
"Do as he says we will handle this, we can't afford for any of you to be harmed." Hiei ordered her leaving no room for debate. The miko glared at him, her blue eyes flashing in defiance. He didn't have time for her tantrums, the others were now coming. Yusuke, Genkai and Shura were the next to come out onto the large balcony. His hold tightened on her arm, he'd show her the way back inside if she didn't move soon. He might not know her very well or even care for her but she was his mate, he'd protect her whether she wanted it or not.
Sango smiled when Kagome jerked her arm away from the hybrid. She noticed that both Yomi and Hiei were trying to protect their mates while Shura made no comment to her. Maybe she should stay away from the edge or he'd be tempted to give her a quick push over the edge. Kirara brushed across her leg, hissing at the being that lingered over them.
"Stand back with me girls, I say we give the men their turn. See what they can do." Genkai remained in the doorway, looking up. She could sense the evil aura that clung to the thing. She doubted that they would be able to defeat the thing but there was no harm in letting them try. After they failed then they could step in and show them how things were done. The tall man named Sano yawned as he came up behind her, the remaining three were coming down the hall.
"Yeah, listen to the old hag." Yusuke glared up at it, that was why they'd woken him out of his sleep? Sure it was ugly and very large but he couldn't sense anything else from it. There was no energy signal at all, was it for show? He glanced down at Genkai, she was peering at him. There was an emotion on her face that he couldn't place. Had his comment bothered her? Nah, she had to be use to him calling her an old hag. He'd meant to talk to her about what had happened between them earlier but she'd been asleep before he'd joined her.
"What's going on out here?" Kurama saw how tense Yomi and Hiei was while they stared up into the night sky. The problem became clear, even blind Yomi could see what was up. The creature was staring down at them, the eyes scanning them. "Someone want to inform me what the hell that thing is?"
"She says it's an entity, formed from the darkest magic." Rin took some comfort from the hands touching her, it made her feel safe. A shiver ran down her spine when the mouth opened. "Rin doesn't like it." The sword pulsed now strapped to her side, she place a hand on the hilt. "She says you cannot kill it, it is not of this world."
"Hn. We shall see about that. Get back with the others miko, no need for you to interfere. Sano, get her now." Hiei heard her curses as the tall man picked her up. She would have to learn her place, there was no need for her to go into battle. The mouth began to open showing nothing but blackness in it's depths. "I think it's about to start." His hand went for the hilt of the katana.
Several creatures appeared, flying straight out towards the city. They looked like large butterflies, the wings glowed a bright red resembling blood. Piercing shreiks filled the air along with the flutter of wings. Kurama called forth his whip, "Kenji, I'll leave it up to you to keep Shizuru safe. Do NOT fail me." He jumped to the edge of the balcony to land next to Hiei, who was also waiting. He knew he was placing a lot of trust in the untrained man but had no choice.
Shizuru lit up a cigarette, planning on staying just inside the building. There was no way she was heading outside with those things coming. She'd fight if her life depended on it. Why waste her energy when there was all this male flesh to do the job? She wasn't a fighter, atleast not yet. Pride didn't keep a dead man warm. She smiled at the warning the fox gave the other man, for a minute she could believe that he actually cared.
Yusuke aimed at one of the butterfly creatures, they appeared to be atleast three feet tall. He'd guess the wing span had to be over five feet, an easy target. He fired, tearing the thing into pieces. "Piece of cake, take that Genkai." His jaw dropped when it began to reform before their eyes. Thousands of tiny pieces pulling together, the only difference was it reformed into two. "You gotta be shitting me."
"Let me try." Yomi stood near the railing, putting him next to Kurama. He raised his hand sending several dozen blasts into the crowd. The creatures were hit, being torn apart by the energy. He frowned and Yusuke swore again, once again they started reforming making more in the process. "Interesting." If dividing them only seemed to produce more then how were they to kill them? This couldn't bode well for them? "Maybe destroying them completely would work?"
"I don't think so, I have a feeling that no matter what we do they will only keep mulitplying in force. There has to be another way to stop them. Maybe we should try for the source, the creature itself." Kurama studied the creature spitting them out, the mouth was still open. It had no actual body, how could they kill a face? Rin said it was an entity, how did she know? Better yet who was she? "Rin, how do you know what it is?"
"She doesn't, she is merely guessing. I say we attack the head, destroy it and we get rid of the pests." Shura walked up to his father, how would a human know anything? He sent a blast towards the face, it cried out as the eye was struck. He smirked, "See it can be injured." The blast ended, leaving the face smoking.
Yomi took his cue and started sending energy towards the entity. Yusuke joined in thinking what the hell, the only sound heard was them firing away. Hiei grunted and thought to do better, "Stand back." Everyone stopped to let the hybrid try, growling filled the air. Nothing was spoken at he unleashed his dragon, it tore across the distance. He felt it impact, then screamed in pain as the head was bitten off.
Yusuke caught him as he stumbled backwards off the railing. "You okay?" Yusuke watched the swirl of energy disappear and almost shit himself. There wasn't even a scratch on the thing. "Great, what the hell do we do? Those things are coming." Something pink shot past his head, the trail crossed the sky to strike one of the butterflies.
"Let's see if it comes back now." Kagome notched another arrow, several seconds passed and nothing but dust remained. She released another taking the one coming straight for the balcony. Her arrow seemed to do the job, "Seems they can be purified, lucky me."
Rin took a step back, things didn't look good. If only Kagome could kill those things, the miko could shoot but so fast. What were they to do? No one else knew what to do and she felt helpless. The fang began to pulse at her side once more, she frowned at what she heard. Fear filled her at hearing what the fang was asking her to do. She wasn't that good of a fighter, nothing like Kagome or Sango. She turned to the taijiya, she reached out and touched her arm. She mouthed the words "Help Me." Sango nodded having felt the sword pulsing, so had Kirara. The neko transformed without being asked, Sango climbed on. Rin climbed behind her, grasping her waist.
"Move out of the way," Sango yelled as Kirara shot forward barely miss Sano's head. "Kagome keep the path clear for us." She turned hearing Shura yelling at her to get her dumb ass back on the balcony. She turned giving him what Kagome called the finger and smiled. Yomi's voice was heard also demanding to know what they thought they were doing. "So, what's up. Please tell me you got a plan."
"She says we need to kill the heart, it's in the forehead. Get Rin close enough to strike, she says she will do the rest." Rin put her hand on the hilt hoping she could do what was needed. Contact was needed in order for the fang to work, she had to do it. It was the only way, time to be brave just like her friends. Anger was felt that was not her own, causing her to look back at the others. Only Kagome was moving, the others watching in horror.
"Right, you heard her Kirara, get us within striking distance of the forehead." Sango held on to the neko's mane as they took a dip to the left avoiding one of the butterflies. One was heading straight for them, she sighed when it was hit by an arrow. "What the hell are those?" Arms began to form out it's mouth, growing fast. "We might be in trouble, damn. What do we do now?"
Rin held on as they made a swift divert to the right, a large hand swung at them like flies. "Turn around then fly at it from an angle, taking us straight over the head. As soon as we are over Rin'll jump off, it'll give the second needed to strike. Try to catch Rin on the way down and pray Rin doesn't die." She tried smiling at her friend.
"Are you sure? What if something happens?" Sango didn't like this plan, there had to be another way. The girl couldn't really want to jump straight in front of the damn thing. "Alright, becareful, go Kirara." The neko sped forward dodging the hands that came for them. She turned up putting them above the creature, "Get ready."
Rin unsheathed the fang, it pulsed in response. She took a deep breath and threw her leg over, ready to spring. "Don't let Rin fall please." Kirara stopped for a second directly over the forehead. She pushed herself off, energy crackled against her skin as she fell. She ignored the pain it was causing, the flesh was only a foot away from her own. The brow came into view, she slid the fang across the forehead. The fang glowed in her hand, she saw herself pass the mouth as she fell through the air. Growling was heard, she turned to see a hand coming straight for her.
"Hiraikotsu." Sango threw the weapon, slicing it off a second before it came slammed into the girl. Kirara dove, her teeth caught the back of Rin's shirt. "Get us out of here now before it opens." Sango turned to watch, praying that it would work.
"What the hell was all that for? That sword didn't even cut the damn thing, she risked her life for nothing." Sano screamed, he felt helpless just standing here watching the three women doing all the work.
"Shut up!" Kagome stopped what she was doing and gripped the railing. She knew exactly what Rin was trying to do, it had to work. "Come on open, this has to work. Dammit, open already." She screamed willing the attack to work. Surely this entity wasn't immune to it. A slice appeared, "Yes, she did it."
Kirara threw Rin into the air, to have her land on her back once more. Rin grabbed Sango's waist, the neko turned so they could watch. "Rin did it. It's opening for her." Her lord's fang had worked for her again. She smiled as it widened to form into the complete circle, that would draw the entity in. "That should kill it right?"
"We'll see." Sango felt relief begin to fill her as the creature screamed as it was sucked into the portal, being sent into the afterlife. Within seconds it was gone, nothing remained. The butterflies disappeared along with the entity, leaving the night quiet. The weight was lifted off her shoulders, they'd done it. Well Rin and Kagome had done it but she was glad that she'd been able to help somewhat.
"What just happened to it?" Kurama looked down at Kagome, seeing the miko jumping up and down in excitement. He was surprised she didn't start clapping her hands and cheer. He'd never seen an attack like it, how could the small girl perform such an attack? Seemed he wasn't the only one shocked, even Yomi had fallen silent.
"Well, since you asked politely. The Tenseiga can open up the Meidou, the path to the afterlife if you will. One slice is all that is needed to instantly kill an opponent." Kagome smiled at her two friends that were making their way back to the balcony. "Oh, before anyone thinks of trying to steal the fang. I'll let you know that it has a will of it's own. The former master was none other than Lord Sesshoumaru, it chose Rin after his death since she was his ward. It won't let anyone else wield it from my knowledge. I doubt you'd be able to even touch it."
Rin jumped off Kirara to run up to the miko. "Did you see that? Rin was able to do it again." She failed to notice the looks she was recieving, or didn't care. She jumped up to hug Kagome, feeling elated. She'd always wondered if she could do so again. Being able to use her lord's weapon made her feel closer to him. Maybe a part of him still lingered with it.
"Well, don't that beat all." Genkai started laughing breaking the tension. She'd thought the girl was rushing to her death but she'd hadn't given her enough credit. Seemed there was more to all three of them than she'd originally thought. "One day you three will have to sit down and have some tea with me. I think I'd like to hear your tales." She turned to Yusuke who was still standing there with his mouth open. "Leave catching flies to the imp dimwit. I'm heading back to bed since I'm not needed here."
"Yes, we need to get Hiei to bed also before he passes out." Kurama jumped off the railing now that the fight was over. "I suggest we all get some rest." Sano picked up the hybrid slinging him over his shoulder like a sack of flour. Hiei snorted, the need to sleep getting stronger.
Yomi walked over to Rin and placed a hand on her arm. "Come, I will hear no arguement." He heard her sigh but she didn't speak. He was surprised and pleased about what she'd done. It was good to know that his mate wasn't completely useless. The fact remained that she had went against his wishes. She'd put herself right into danger without any regards, he wouldn't tolerate such behaviour.
Rin knew he was angry with her, he was frowning worse than Jaken use to when she'd misbehave. She'd only been trying to help, not make him mad. The door to the bedroom opened and he led her in. "Rin is sorry she didn't stay behind the big man." She lowered her face to stare at his bare feet, then she finally noticed that all he had on was a robe. The slit was showing all the way to the top of his knee. A blush crept up her face, he was naked underneath that. Which meant he'd been naked while in bed with her. "You were naked with Rin?"
He almost laughed as her face heated up, "Know two things. One; you will not disobey me, two; I sleep in the nude. Get use to it." Yomi heard her gasp, her breath caught. "Breathe Rin, I will not touch you. I just prefer to be comfortable." He directed her over to the bed and sat down. He didn't want to be harsh but would have her compliance. "Now before you head back to sleep I want your promise that you will do as I say from now on."
"Rin will promise to do what her new lord says." She smiled when that seemed to please him. "Does this mean Rin can sleep that way too?"
Please read and review
Rin examined the large room once more, waiting until the servant had left her. Yomi had shown her the room only to leave with Jaken in tow minutes later.
