Not Leaving

Chapter Five

"What do you think Kurama, he has improved quiet a bit." Yomi spoke to him.

"Yes, he has." Kurama watched Shura swing barely missing the youkai fighting against him. For the last three months he'd been coming every other weekend to help Yomi in training the boy. They would meet at the same place. "I'm impressed."

"He still has a way to go, I'm afraid. I've been having some trouble with him lately."

"Still not liking the idea of you trying to find a mate?" Kurama turned to look at his friend.

"No, he's very opposed to the idea. But he is becoming too reckless, I won't have him making the same mistakes that I did. I believe a female around would do better for him. Seems the love of a mother can do wonders even for the most heartless."

"Yes, I assume you are refering to me. He will be rebelous at first no doubt, he isn't use to the idea. Give him time, he will accept it."

Yomi sighed, "Maybe, I have a feeling he doesn't like my choice though but I believe she will be good for him. Ikena seems taken with him, she dotes on him."

"That will be good, I'm suprised you are seriously considering settling down."

"I'm not getting any younger," He stopped and listened, there it was again. "Halt, someone is coming. Seems you were followed my friend, should have let me know that we would have guests."

Kurama couldn't sense anyone near but knew better than to question Yomi's judgement. "I don't sense anything, or see anything for that matter."

"Try turning around my friend." Yomi couldn't sense them either, he'd heard them. His anger flared, he hadn't heard them until they had wanted him to.

Kurama turned and his jaw dropped, Sango and Kagome were standing about fifteen feet away from them. They didn't appear scared or out of place. He tried and still couldn't sense them for some reason. Why had they followed him? How had they followed him without him knowing? "How?"

"That's what I'd like to know. They could have just killed us and we wouldn't have known until one of us had fallen." Yomi's aura flared as his anger grew at the intrusion, he didn't appreciate being caught off guard. "Guards get them."

Kagome let the barrier drop when the order was given. "Seems we aren't welcome."

"It's their funeral, if they don't stop." Sango waited for them to get closer, they weren't stopping. She ran forward unsnapping the weapon on her back. "Hiraikotsu," It flew from her hand taking the guards by suprise, slicing all but one in half.

"You missed one," Kagome released her arrow, striking him in the chest as he jumped for Sango. The taijiya caught the weapon as it came back. "Hmph, is this how you greet family Kurama?"

His eyes widened at the use of his name, "You shouldn't have followed, I will not interfere." He stepped back knowing Yomi meant to kill them.

Yomi took a step forward, he gasped as the poison landed at his feet. His lungs retracted in pain. He jumped out the way grabbing his son in the process. Where had they gotten that stuff from? His stomach was pitching, he felt like retching. The thought that the mere human was able to have a effect on him left him angry. How would she have known what to use to make a poison that effective? "Bitch, you will die."

"You first youkai." Sango was walking through the poison unharmed, mask in place.

His ears picked up the heavy breathing through the mask. How? Knowledge of this kind had been lost centuries ago. The only ones to have ever used these methods were the tiajiya. His eyes widened in shock, "Kurama you would allow a tiajiya to follow you here?"

"She cannot be one, she can't be over twenty." He had his shirt covering his nose trying not to breath in the mist.

"Oh, I beg to differ. I am the last of my kind, the sole surviving tiajiya." Her voice was filled with pride, pissing the blind youkai off.

"You have some nerve walking into the Makai, a slayer walking into the mist of her enemies." He released his son, taking a few steps forward.

Kagome had an arrow notched pointed towards Kurama, he turned his eyes to look at her. There was doubt and hesitation in them, did he believe she wouldn't shot him? "Try me."

He changed his mind about moving, not sure how good she was with the bow. Or how big she could make her blast. His eyes narrowed knowing she would kill him.

Yomi focused on the taijiya in the mist, he couldn't get to her yet. The moment she stepped forward he'd kill her.

Kagome saw something out the corner of her eye, another youkai was behind the boy. "Sango behind the boy, he's after the child."

She released her weapon in an arc, it made a wide swing of the youkai not far from her. A loud groan was heard as it made contact. The boy's screaming was heard as well.

Kagome watched in horror no longer concerned about Kurama. Everyone turned to see another youkai come forward and pick the boy up. It's black wings took them to the sky as Yomi tried to stop them. She gasped hearing the boy's scream as he was torn by it's many talons.

"Kagome, shoot it." Sango turned to the man, "Get ready to catch him."

She focused, it was moving fast. 'Please hit, don't let me miss.' She released aiming for the head. It streaked across the sky in a pink light. The youkai screamed as it took half his chest out, it released the boy. She quickly notched another, it wasn't getting away. It slammed into what was left of the youkai, he burst into dust.

Sango ran along side Kagome to reach the man's side as he held the boy looking over the damage done. The two men had the boy layed out on the ground trying to stop the flow of blood. She felt her stomach fall at the sight.

"Can you do something to keep him alive till we get him back?" Yomi asked him, pressing down on the large wound in the boys abdomen.

"No, he'll have to make it back on his own or he won't make it back alive. The wound is too deep I'm afraid." Kurama saw the pain cross his friend's face.

"Let me, move aside dammit." Kagome reached them and almost gagged at all the blood. "Move, I can heal him." When neither men moved she yelled, "Fine be idiots but while you let your prejudice sway you the boy is dying." She sighed when Kurama moved out of her way giving her access to the child.
Tears came to her eyes seeing the small child pale, barely breathing. He was no bigger than Souta, she wouldn't let him die. "You might wanna let go, I don't want to purify you on accident."

Yomi snatched his hand back, he waited while the girl touched his son. His senses picked up her aura as she began to work.

Sango saw Kagome was doing what she could and decided to go see what she could do. Hiraikotsu was partially buried in the second youkai. She walked over to him leaving the other three with the boy. A foot was placed on his face as she grabbed the free end. "Who were you after?" She moved the weapon around causing pain to spread across his back.

"Allow me," Kurama appeared beside her suddenly. She eyed him warily not sure if she could trust him. "I'm not going to attack you."

"Hmph? Mind if I take my weapon back to be sure?" She snatched it out the man's back causing him to scream in pain. "He's all yours."

Kurama bent down to speak to the man. "We can do this by torture or you can tell me freely. Who were you sent to kill?"

"The boy, don't ask who hired us. My partner was the one that made the contact, I don't know."

Kurama could sense that he was telling the truth, "Very well." A vine came from his wrist piercing the man in the head, killing him. "Why did you follow me?"

"First, you tell me where the real Shuichi is." Sango threw back at him.

He looked up in her in confusion, "What are you talking about?"

"There is no way you are him, you are a youkai. A kitsune, if my guess is right. Tell me what did you do to her son?" Sango demanded, the blind man's laughter caught her off guard.

"The tangled webs we weave. Seems you have some explaining to do, bring them with us to the city." Yomi had Shura in his arms as he walked towards his city.

"Very well, if you two will follow me I will explain everything to you." He tried to smile at Kagome, she glared back at him.

"Do you believe him?" Kagome was standing at a large window overlooking the youkai city. She felt uncomfortable being surrounded by some many of them. When they'd set off to follow the man they had no idea he'd lead them to a world that existed of nothing but youkai.

"Yes, I do. Don't ask me why but I do. I don't think it's right that he's keeping something like this a secret from Shiori. Then again if she isn't aware of youkai then maybe it's a good thing if she doesn't know." Sango looked out following Kagome's gaze.

"Yeah, guess so. Seems we came out here for nothing, well we managed to make an ass out of ourselves." She smiled at her friend trying not to be down. If he was actually Shiori's son that made her feel worse. Cause then he was her cousin and he'd been willing to let his friend kill them. He sounded sincere about his feelings for his mother so he couldn't be too bad. He seemed to be very protective of that side of his family, which meant it was just her he didn't like. Shuuichi wasn't his blood either but he'd seemed protective of him. Yep it was just her.

"As soon as he gets back I think we should head home. We won't accomplish nothing by being here." Sango turned when she heard the door open, both men came walking in. Good they could leave soon.

"Can we leave now?" Kagome demanded.

"You may leave miko," Yomi snapped his fingers and the room was soon filled with youkai. "But your friend may not. She is a threat, she will be dealt with as such. Take her away now. Resist and we will retailate with force. You both know you can't kill them all. Don't make your punishment any worse than it will be."

Kagome went for an arrow, "Fine if you want a fight."

"Kagome don't." Sango took her weapon off letting it drop to the ground. "We can't win this fight. Leave, while you have the chance. There is no need for us both to die."

Kagome screamed when the bow was knocked out of her hands by Kurama. "You bastard." His arms went around her as she began to struggle. "Get off me, how could you? We saved your kid and this is the thanks we get."

"It's because of what you did is the reason he is letting you live. Now behave, Kagome."

Sango felt the rough hands grab her arms, digging into the tender flesh. She winced in pain when something slammed into the back of her head.

Kagome saw them hit her, knocking her unconscious. Tears streamed down her face, "Sango." She couldn't stop them as they dragged her friend away. She turned on Kurama her hand striking him across the face. He just stood there as she brought her hand up again, she brought it down. He grabbed ahold of it applying pressure causing her to scream in pain.

"Stop now or you will cause her death. He isn't going to kill her, stop it."

She watched the man follow his men out carrying the girl. "I'm not leaving here without her, you can inform him of that. What is he going to do with her?"

"It isn't that bad, she is to become his mistress."
