Binding of The Heart

A/N: To answer a reviewer question. In the series Hiei went to visit his mother's grave and the koorime saw him. So they would have known it was him and that he had survived. As for Kagome/Killany, yes she'd know that he was a fire youkai but she believes that the baby was killed and has no reason to suspect differently.


Chapter Five

Koenma called the four into his office once more. The mess with the koorime was still being looked into. But this was serious and needed their attention. He placed the report on his desk and sat back. All the guys looked like hell.

"So wanna tell us what's going on?" Hiei asked.

"Yes, I'm sure you are aware of the situation. Things have become hectic in the Makai these last two weeks and with good reason. There is a rumor of the Shikon no Tama being back causing all the youkai to go hunting."

"Didn't it disappear over five centuries ago?" Kurama asked.

"Yes kind of, the shell returned to it's Guardian; a young girl named Kagome. She returned to this era where she belonged. The jewel was dormant inside her, a hanyou having used it's power. So after hearing the rumors I looked in on her. She's assumed dead by the local authorities. Seems she was attacked in her bedroom, no body was found but I can't locate her. So she must be dead which makes the situation more dire. Once the jewel is corrupted only she can purify it."

"So, I take it were are going to the Makai to retrieve this jewel." Yusuke looked at the toddler. He didn't feel like running around the Makai. He'd been planning on spending the night with Keiko. She was finally warming up to his sexual advances. Now he definitely wouldn't be getting any.

"Yes, get it back at all costs."


Kagome layed along the bank with her eyes closed appearing to be asleep. She could feel them trying to surround her. Fools, everyone of them. If they only knew they were slowly coming to their deaths. Her barrier was down once more. She hadn't had any luck finding Naraku, he had disappeared over three centuries ago it seemed. That was fine with her, there was a way to get him to show himself.

She waited for them to rush her never opening her eyes. As soon as they got within range she sent out her aura. Several screams were heard as they were purified. Silence soon filled the air once more. She rolled over onto her stomach but didn't put the barrier back up.

Several large aura's were coming her way, she recognized all of them. So Koenma was sending his lap dog in to check things out. Interference that she didn't need at the moment. Her hand went to a flower and picked it. She waited for them to arrive.

They stopped in front of her, all of them looked suprised. She looked up and smiled, looking each one over.

'He's cute.' Killany let her eye roam over the red head.

'Way too pretty, never date a man better looking than yourself.'

'But he isn't. We are quite stunning ourself.'

"May we help you?" She asked them, looking back down at the flower in her hand. She saw the recognition in the three's eyes.

"We?" Kuwabara looked around, "I don't sense anyone else, do you guys?"

"No fool she is alone." Hiei sneered. "We've come for the jewel in your possession."

"Hmmm," She rolled over onto her back and smiled. "Can't give it to you. Nope that just wouldn't do."

"Where is the girl?" Kurama demanded of her.

"What girl? We haven't seen anyone of late. Sorry, but you are wasting your time and most importantly ours." She stood up and brushed her pants off.

"Why did you attack the city?" Hiei asked wanting an answer.

"Oh, them. That bitch got what was coming to her. We merely handed out the justice that was more than long over due."

Kurama knew Hiei wanted a better answer than that, since he'd been mentioned. But they were here to collect the jewel. "Hand over the shikon, we don't want to hurt you. Even using the power, you are no match for us."

Her head cocked to the side, "Trust us fox, we are not using the power of the jewel. What power you see is ours. And we are more than enough to kill the likes of you. It is you that will get hurt. Would be a shame to damage that nice body of yours but we will."

"I think she's mental." Yusuke spoke finally, the girl had to be off her rocker.

"We are in perfect mental health." Her hand went to the fang, she had it out and transformed before they could blink.

"Woah she's faster than Hiei." Kuwabara took a few steps back.

She leapt back and unleashed the power towards the group. They moved out the way in time as she figured they would. No need to kill them, just make them leave her alone. She landed on the other side of the stream and waited. The fox and fire youkai landed in front of her and she smiled. "Not bad but still no match for us."

"Why do you refer to yourself as two?" Kurama asked. She didn't seem to be crazy so there had to be an explanation.

"Because we are two and we are one. We also think you ask too many questions and it is time for you to leave us alone." She picked up her aura causing the purification energy to come forth. They jumped back from it landing back over by Yusuke and Kuwabara. Her laughter filled the air as she sped off away from them.

"I think we've bitten off more than we can chew." Yusuke watched her leave.

"I think we've just found Koenma's missing miko. That was definitely holy energy in that last attack." Kurama felt the hairs on his neck standing up. Hiei ran off to follow her leaving them, "You two go inform Koenma that the miko is here in the Makai and that she is still in possession of the jewel. I'm going to follow Hiei."


Kagome slowed her pace briefly to scan the area, they were still following. Weren't they ever going to give up? She stopped in the clearing when she felt another aura coming towards her. A gasp escaped her chest when she recognized it. Seemed her prey had finally come to her. She waited for him lowering her aura. She didn't have to worry, the jewel would call him.

The man landed in front of her several feet away, looking almost the same as the day she'd been sent home. Except he now carried black marks along his cheeks and was wearing different armor. His red eyes looked her over landing on the place the jewel rested.

Kagome felt the other two enter the clearing and stop. As long as they didn't interfere she wouldn't kill them. "You haven't changed much Naraku, we are glad to see that you have finally decided to show youreself. We have been looking for you."

"Hmmph, who are you girl and how did you come in possession of the jewel?"

She unsheathed the Tetsusiaga transforming it, "Don't you recognize us? Then again it has been over five centuries hasn't it, Onigumo."

His eyes filled with rage at the name, his eyes landed on the fang. "Could it be? My dear Kagome, it's been a long time. So you have been trying to draw me out. How clever of you. Are you trying to finish what your foolish hanyou could not?"

"Oh, we will do much more than that. We will make you beg long before you die, Onigumo." The name sent him in a rage, he charged the girl sending out several tenacles.
