shattered innocence
Kikyo nodded solemnly and she backed out of the hut. Shinko looked up at her and beamed as she handed Kikyo a handful of flowers. Her little face grew pinched with concern as she peered at the direction in which her brother had fled, “Kikyo, Is Inumaru okay?”. Kikyo gave a soft smile, “He will be alright. I’m going to go get him. Why don’t you go in and talk to your mother?”. Shinko looked again in the direction that her brother went before she walked into the hut reluctantly.
Kikyo sighed and she looked around for a trace of Inumaru’s demonic aura. Suddenly, her head snapped up. She could sense another demonic aura in the vicinity and it was heading steadily to where Inumaru was. “holy shikon no tama.” She cursed as she gathered her voluminous pants around her, they were comfortable but they had one setback of having a tendency to make people trip. She ran swiftly toward where she sensed the auras, inwardly cursing demonic speed for carrying the boy away so far.
She summoned her soul collectors. Knowing what she wanted, they twined around her slender form and they lifted her into the air and glided to where Kikyo directed them. Panic grew in Kikyo’s chest when she realized the aura’s were right on top of each other. Seeing two figures beneath her, Kikyo nudged her companions aside and they grudgingly let go. Kikyo tumbled toward the earth as she fumbled to get the arrow to the bow.
Kikyo hit the earth with an oomph and she rolled over into a squatting position as she pulled the arrow to the bow. She froze when she couldn’t see Inumaru, only the demon’s body lying on the ground. Kikyo blinked back tears but she then could hear a small whimper. Kikyo spotted a spot of white underneath the dark form and she realized with a jolt that the demon was pinning down the little boy.
“so, you filthy little half-breed,” red eyes gleamed ferally, “you decided to walk around as if you’re worthy of us.”
“I am! That’s what Kikyo said!” Inumaru tried to throw a punch at the demon weighing him down. The demon’s eyes flashed and he grabbed the tiny fist, he snapped the wrist in half and Inumaru’s cries of pain filled the air. Kikyo started when she heard her name in those cries.
“stupid brat. No one’s gonna come and help you,” the demon lowered his face to the little boy’s and sneered, “no one cares. And I’m gonna show you your place.”
He flipped Inumaru over and Kikyo grew cold when she realized what the demon was intending to do.
“Oh are you really?” she stated coldly and when the demon looked up at her, she let the arrow fly. He sneered and managed to block her arrow with a barrier. Kikyo paled, she knew that barrier color. Naraku. Her eyes hardened as she glared at one of the hated hanyou’s incarnations. He looked just like the bastard albeit he had a spider mark on his forehead.
“Oh, and you must be the bitch that Lord Naraku and this brat were talking about.” The demon spoke in a lazy drawl as he eyed her. Kikyo swallowed down her revulsion and she fitted another arrow to her bow, “Put him down.” She said, ice dripping from every word.
“By the way, my name is Naru,” the demon smirked, “I can see why my master wanted you so badly. And you seem to be the hard to get type. My favorite, they turn me on.” Naru licked his lips
“I’m glad for you.” Kikyo snapped, “Now, let Inumaru go!”
“No, I don’t think I will,” Naru looked away nonchalantly, “He’s a pretty little thing. Imagine how tight he will be.” Kikyo froze, “You sadistic bastard.” Naru just smirked as he got to his feet, pulling along the crying boy. He smiled and dragged a claw over the child’s chest, blood welling up after his finger as Inumaru whimpered, his voice gone.
Something in Kikyo snapped and she let her arrow fly, pouring into it, the most purifying energy and anger she could muster. The arrow let out a strange keening sound and the aura around it grew a dark crimson color. The color of blood. Naru’s eyes widened and he hastened to kill the child. Before he could, Kikyo sent a rush of power after the path that the arrow had plowed for her. Kikyo’s soul collectors tugged the little boy from the demon’s grasp just as the blast hit his chest.
Kikyo put up a barrier to prevent any of Naraku’s filth’s gore from touching her. She simply looked down on the destroyed carcass with disgust before she switched her attention to the sobbing boy held in the protective twining embrace of her soul collectors. Her face paled when she took in the blood splattered clothes, the shattered wrist hanging at a wrong angle and the empty broken look in Inumaru’s wide gold eyes.
