Hiei was shoked. As the girl fell asleep she let all her mental barriers drop. He was almost floored by the wave of grief he felt from her. The Jagan had completely access to her mind now, he could see all her memories of the past five years like a movie. How the centipede had dragged her into the well and ripped the jewel from her side, as she released the hanyou from the tree, when she broke the jewel with her arrow, the times when she met the kitsune pup, the lecherous monk and the taijiya, how she was kiknapped and the wolf fell in love with her, he saw all her fights against the dark hanyou and his detachments.
The young girl fell in love with the inuhanyou but he saw her sadness as the fool still chased after the resurrected miko, but then her feelings started to change into friendship, because she didn´t want him to feel guilty. She put her own needs aside so her friend could be happy. She focused on her training, the old miko and the hoshi helped her to use her power properly to some degrree. Then she fell in love with the taiyoukai, the same, who tried to kill her at the beginning of her quest. He was the one who trained her to use the katana that he gave her. The Inuyoukai wanted to mark her but they decided against it, because they didn´t know what would happen, when the jewel was whole again. He saw the last fight and the girl was right, if the undead miko hadn´t helped them, they wouldn´t have survived it. The jewel went back into her body and she was sent to her own time.
In the first few weeks she often cried herself to sleep. She was depressive and lonely until the day the first youkai attacked her at the shrine. She realized, that her quest wasn´t over, not as long she had the jewel. He saw how the nice and innocent girl started to change into an independent young woman and a ruthless fighter. The fights were a welcomed distraction for her and kept her away from her real feelings, of loneliness and the longing for her friends and lover.
It was almost dawn as the girl started to awake. She tossed and turned in her bed and had a nightmare. Hiei was perched on the tree near her window where he could watch her every move. Suddenly she sat bolt upright, breathing hard and tears were running down her pale cheeks. He knew that she had dreamed of the hanyou and how he had died. The anger that she radiated was enorm for a human. She took the next best thing that she could reach and threw it at the closet which was at the opposite wall. Her alarm clock made a strange noise and fall into three pieces. “Inuyasha no baka! Why didn´t you stay with the others!” She sobbed into her hands. “Why was I forced to return? Oh gods……he died……….he died all alone!” She was almost hysterical but Hiei was unsure what he should do, maybe go inside and knock her out. But then Kagome stood up and grabed the chair, lifted it up and smashed it with all her might on her desk. Within ten minutes she had destroyed all of the things she could lift. Still panting she reached into her closet and took some clean clothes to wear and left her room to take a shower. Hiei just smirked. It was a good thing to let the rage out.
Kagome went after her qick shower into the kitchen and looked out of the window at the shrine grounds. She was still too angry and didn´t know what to do. Surely her mother would throw a fit if she would find her kitchen in a wreck. She was lucky that her family was still on a vacation. But why couldn´t a fucking youkai attack her now? She snorted. No, they only showed up when she had other plans. She jumped as she heared a voice in her head ‘Come to the dojo and bring your katana.’
Shit! How could she forget about her barriers. She sighed. There was nothing she could do now, and the guy will be her new ally. If it wasn´t from her he would have find out about her life eventually from Koenma. So she took her katana and went to the small dojo behind the house. She was glad that her jiisan had allowed her to use the old storehouse for training. He was happy as she told him that she will also try to use all of her miko power. The scrolls she got from Kaede had helped her a bit but she still needed someone who could teach her to reach the core of her power.
As she arrived at the dojo she saw the short youkai waiting for her in a black sleeveless shirt and black pants, his katana drawn. “Hiei, right?” she asked him. He noded.
Wow, he was really strong. It wasn´t just his youki, there was something on his forehead under the headband and on his forearm under the bandages that almost screamed of hidden power
“I will help you to work off that aggression, now show me what you have learend from the taiyoukai. Just suppress your ki, I don´t want to be purified”. Kagome didn´t hesitate and lashed out with her sword.
For a human she wasn´t bad, even graceful. Her long black silken hair blow wildly behind her from her movements, her tight shirt and leggings clung to her body like a glove, showing her curvaceous body. Her deep blue eyes were glowing, giving her a lethal but divine appearance as she tried relentlessly to strike him. She looked as if she thoroughly enjoyed the fight.
A hour later Kagome lay in the middle of the dojo on her back, panting. She couldn´t move any limb of her body but she didn´t care. It didn´t even matter that she wasn´t able to struck him once, he was too fast for her.
Nevertheless she felt great. It was exactly what she had needed. “Thanks.” Hiei just grunted and left her alone. Ten minutes later Kagome draged herself back into the house for a long nice bath.
Kagome was making pancakes as the doorbell rang. She opened the door and saw Kuwabara standing there and looked concerned. “Hello Kuwabara-kun, are you alright? You look worried?”She led him to the kitchen.
Kuwabara shook his head.”I´m fine but what about you? Well, you were very upset yesterday after Lord Sesshoumaru has left. I wanted to make sure, that you were O.k.”
Kagome smiled at him, he was really kindhearted. “Don´t worry, I feel better now. It´s not easy but I have to move on. Come on, let´s enjoy the pancakes I´ve made”. They ate and talked about his life and her adventures in the sengoku jidai. Koenma has told the Reikai Tantei almost everything what happened in the past. Kuwabara told her about the other detectives especially Yusuke, who was his best friend.
“Kagome, Koenma want you to meet Genkai, she is Yusukes sensei. He said that she can probably help you with your power which you can´t control yet. I must say I´m shoked, that there is still some energy somewhere in this small body of yours which don´t radiates off of you.” Kagome laughed. “I need to be strong as the guardian of the jewel. But you know, I sometimes wish I was born as a youkai. It would have made some things easier in the past. Even now my body is to weak for my taste. The shikon no tama resides near my heart this time. If someone would manage to rip it out of me I will surely die. I´m not afraid of that but the problem is, I´m the last descendant of Midoriko and the only person who can keep the jewel pure. If it falls into the wrong hands the world will be doomed to disaster.”
Kuwabara gaped at her and then jumped of the chair “No!” he shouted “We won´t let that happen, I´ll protect you!” Kagome gave him a grateful smile. “I know and I thank you for that. But there is always the chance that we can fail.
All right, now let me change into something comfortable. I want to meet this Genkai now.” Kagome wanted to go to her room as Kuwabara stoped her. “Wait Kagome, this is not just a visit, you will stay at her shrine for some time. It will make everything easier and we can protect you there better”. Kagome sighed, she had already a feeling that this would happen. “I understand, let me pack some things and I have to write a note to my mother, she should know what´s going on.” Thirty minutes later they left the shrine but not before Kagome put a barrier on the shrine grounds.
