Scared of You


Rin was standing next to Kagome as she talked to Keiko. They were discussing when they thought Kurama and Kuronue would return. Kagome missed them terribly and it showed. It was only understandable that she was worried considering the mission they were on. Rin noticed the moment Kouga stepped outside and watched him walk down the steps. Her heartbeat sped up when he looked over and spotted her.

His eyes didn't leave her as he started walking over. She assumed he was coming over to talk to Kagome, so she quickly walked over to stand next to Yukina, putting herself a few yards away from them. Kagome glanced up and spoke to him as he got next to them. He merely nodded and kept walking. Rin saw him keep walking never taking his eyes of her. When he began his direction towards the grill she decided, he might want to ask about dinner. So she headed towards her tree, suddenly needing to be alone.

Once she reached her tree she decided to look back. He'd just walked past the grill and Yukina still coming her way. Panic filled her, fear over five centuries old rose to the surface. He'd never went out of his way to come near her. She'd always found somewhere to stay while he visited Ayame. He'd kept his distance because of Sesshoumaru but her lord wasn't here.

Hiei sensed large amounts of fear coming off the girl and jumped off the roof. Kagome looked up at him to see what was going on. Then she knew, she called out. "Kouga don't."

"Stay out of it Kagome."

Rin didn't hear any of it. Her blood was pounding in her ears as he kept coming. Images flashed through her mind and she sprinted. The wolf saw her run and gave chase, bad move. He only wanted to stop her, to let her know he wouldn't hurt her. Yet all she felt was the fear, she could almost hear the wolves coming.

The others didn't know what the problem was, all they saw was Kouga chasing the girl as Kagome yelled. "Kouga stop you're scaring her." They watched as she suddenly tripped and fell to the ground.

Kouga got to her and tried to help her up. She was on her back looking up at him, he felt like shit at seeing the terror in her eyes. "Rin, I'm not going to hurt you. Listen."

"Get away." She got back on her feet and tried to run. He grabbed her by the shoulders spinning her around. He tried talking to her but she started striking out. He tried to grab her hands, she kept hitting him in the face. "No."

He wrapped his arms around her pulling her close to him, "Rin calm down." She struggled to get away.

Kagome finally made it over. "Let her go, now." Yet the wolf didn't release the girl. "Kouga, you're scaring the shit out of her."

"She'll get over it, dammit." He held her tighter. He wasn't letting her go until she got over her fear of him. "Stay out of it. I won't let you interfere."

"How bout I just slice your throat." There was suddenly cold metal pressed against the wolf's neck. He glanced over to see Hiei and the look in his eyes said he meant it.

"You don't understand." Kouga tried to explain.

"I understand perfectly. Keep your guilt to yourself wolf. You killed her, now she fears you. Stay away from her or I'll tear out your throat, like your wolves did to her." He pressed the blade, nicking the skin. He kept the blade there as he walked around. He put an arm around the girl's waist. As soon as he had a good hold on her, he left.

Kagome sighed when it was over. "What the hell were you thinking?" She smacked him in the chest. "Chasing her like that? You baka!"

"I'm sorry, I didn't think she'd react that strongly."

"What the hell did you expect? You killed her as a child. She'll never get over it." Kagome wondered where Hiei went to with her. "Let her come to terms with it on her own."


Rin felt herself being pulled away from the wolf and being pulled against a chest. She felt safe as she could no longer see the wolf. She closed her eyes and the tears hit her. She felt herself being held as she cried, the fear was slowly ebbing away. Strong arms continued to hold her long afer the tears stopped.

Hiei tried comforting the girl, he sucked at it though. He wasn't one for showing such emotion. He heard her sobs stop and the smell of her tears were becoming faint. She needed reassurance so he gave it. "I won't let him hurt you." Her heard snapped up, she looked into his red eyes. "He wasn't going to hurt you."

Deep down she knew Kouga wouldn't hurt her now but she couldn't help the terror that overcame her. She nodded at him. His face was expressionless but she felt elated at his statement. She threw her arms around him and hugged him. "Thank you." She heard his quick intake of breath. "Can we go back now?"

"Hn." He picked her up bridal style. He leapt off the building and made his way back to Genkai's.
