A Dream of You

Saved, Maybe Not


Kagome felt relief when Kirara grabbed the girl by the back of her shirt in time to keep her from being surrounded by miasma. Things didn't look too good at the moment. Inuyasha had run off over thirty minutes ago when he saw Kikyo's soul collectors. Not long after he'd left, one of Naraku's offspring had attacked. The three humans were once again left alone to deal with the creature. It's intention was clear, the death of Kagome. It had a jewel shard imbedded in its forehead, everytime Sango managed to wound it, it's body would once again reform. The damn thing was made out of puddy. Naraku's insects had shown up preventing Miroku from using his kazaana.

Kagome was once again placed on her feet out of harm's way. Sango went back in the air alone. Miroku stood in front of the miko doing what he could to protect her. He used his staff to knock aside the tenacles that came towards them. There was too many and without Inuyasha here there was nothing they could do.

"Kagome run." Miroku shouted as a tenacle knocked him aside. "Don't think, run."

Her bow was laying on the ground shattered, it wouldn't do her any good. She took off into the woods, unaware of where she was going. She could sense the jewel shard coming closer, he was gaining on her. Twigs snagged her hair and cut her legs as she made her way through the bushes. Her foot slipped out from under her and she was sliding down a hill. A sharp pain tore up her hip as it came in contact with a rock sticking out the ground.

She landed at the bottom right into some type of marsh. The water was knee high and muddy, "Gross!" Her soul tingled, he was right behind her. She got to her feet and tried to run. It was taking her too long to wade through the muck. She was knocked forward and landed head first in the water. Something was going around her neck, she was pulled out the water by her throat.

"Know that you will die because your protector chose a dead woman." He had her eye level, which was over seven feet in the air.

Kagome could feel herself hanging there, breathing was difficult as he held her in the air by her slender neck. He was going to snap her neck and there was nothing she could do about it.

"Let her go."

Kagome turned her head, she didn't recognize the voice. Her eyes widened seeing the rude fox youkai standing off to the right. When the creature didn't comply he attacked. 'He's trying to save me, why?' His attempt was futile. The whip in his hand cut through the flesh but it quickly healed up.

"We need to get her down, I doubt she can breathe." The bat youkai spoke somewhere from behind her.

'No shit, I'm not trying to pry this thing off for the fun of it.' She was starting to get dizzy. She started getting angry, this was all Inuyasha's fault. Naraku had attacked knowing he was off with Kikyo. Now, she was going to die because he couldn't keep his dick in his pants for more than a day. The only weapon she had was her arrows, she let go of the tenacle wrapped around her neck. Her hand reached behind her head until she felt the edge. He began to swing her, trying to snap her neck but she didn't stop. Her fingers enclosed around the shaft. Once she had it she brought the head down into the flesh. It did the trick, it was instantly purified and she began her descent to the ground.

The ground never met her, she was picked up midair. She still had the arrow in her hand clutching it for dear life. The bat youkai had her up in the air. He was dodging tenacles, holding her tight against his chest. Her throat was severly bruised but she tried to speak, "Shard, forehead." He looked down at her. "Gotta get shard."

"Youko, she says aim for the shard on its forehead." He dodged another tenacle. "You seem to attract a lot of attention, little one."

"Who are you? Why do you interfere? Hand the girl over and I will let you live. She must die." He tried attacking the fox going after the jewel fragment on his forehead. Fighting two full blooded youkai was much harder than three humans. But Naraku had said to make sure to kill the miko.

"Hiraikotsu," The weapon soared through the air as Sango and the others appeared on Kirara's back. It tore through his neck causing the head to fall to the ground. "Destroy the head so she can get the shard." She called out.

Kurama slashed the head several times leaving it in tiny pieces. Then went for the torso, keeping it occupied. Koronue flew down and deposited the girl by the mutilated head. The mouth was screaming, "No, No." She fell to her knees and reached in the mess. The black shard was purified as she touched it.

The fox jumped back when the body was instantly turned to ash before his eyes. They cat landed next to the girl and Sango jumped off rushing to her friend. She threw her arms around her, "Are you okay?"

All she could do was nod her head, it hurt too much to try and talk. Shippo jumped off and ran to her, "Kagome, you're hurt. She's bleeding, I can smell the blood."

Miroku walked up to the two men. "I believe we owe you both a great thanks. We feared the worst," he bowed to them.

Kurama walked up to the two women, "Where is she injured?"

Sango looked at her for the answer. She blushed at the question, she looked down pointing exactly where the wound was. High up on her hip. Sango could see the blood running down, "Its on her hip, we need to get her out of here and tended to."

"May I offer my assistance?" When Sango gave him a questionable look he replied. "I am educated on a lot of healing herbs, she fell in this water after getting wounded. If it is not taken care of properly, it will most likely get infected."

"Fine, lets go."

Kagome protested when they just wanted to tend to her wound. She smelled like that nasty water and she demanded a bath first. Why bother cleaing around the wound when she had the germs on the rest of her person. Seeing that she wouldn't give in they let her have her way. So they stopped not far from a stream. Kagome quickly undressed and jumped in the cold water. Her throat was aching worse from talking to get her way and the second the water hit the cut it stung. The muck was cleaned off as fast as she could. Feeling clean once more she headed back dressed in a clean school uniform.

The fox was busy mixing something in a bowl Shippo had provided. Kagome was sure the kit had taken a liking to the other fox. She sat down on a tree stump and waited. Sango and Miroku left as soon as she got back. One destination in mind, to fetch a certain hanyou. They didn't really trust the two youkai but they had saved her instead of killing her. Shippo jumped to sit beside her, looking up at her with worried eyes.

"I need to scrub it first to make sure everything is out. It may hurt." Kurama went down on his knees in front of her.

"Fine but if your hands go an inch higher than needed, you'll pull back a stump." She said, it was bad enough he was going to be touching that far up her leg. He smiled at the comment. "Of course."

He took the rag the taijiya had left for him and told her to turn a little. So Kagome placed her hand down and leaned to her side, lifting that hip off the wood. It was making her blush, if he looked good enough he'd see her panties. She prayed he wasn't another Miroku.

He moved the short garment up enough so he could see what he was doing. He looked down and got a full view a creamy hip. His mouth got dry all of a sudden and he had to clear his thoughts. He had to place one hand on her thigh to try and open the wound while the other cleaned. She hissed at the pain and he looked up into beautiful blue eyes. He snapped back to reality when Koronue cleard his throat. It took several minutes to make sure it was clean enough.

Kagome didn't know if she wanted to scream from the pain his cleaning was doing or the burning in her stomach he was causing. She sighed when he was done, thankful for that to be over. He brought his hand up with the salve he'd made grabbing her hip once more. She felt a strange jolt go through her spine at the contact. He applied the salve very quickly and then dressed the wound. Relief filled her once it was over, that had been too intense for her liking. Having his fingers rub over her skin had caused strange sensations in her abdomen.

He stood up, pulling her skirt back down. "There, that should keep it from getting infected." He knew Koronue was glaring at him but could do nothing about it. He was sure his friend had sensed his arousal, even the kit had looked at him funny. What suprised him was when he'd smelt the girl's.

"How long will it take for them to return?" Youko asked.

"I'm not sure hopefully not long." She knew they planned on staying with her till the others arrived with Inuyasha. Why, was beyond her. Maybe she just looked pitiful, that had to be it. The poor little pathetic human girl, Yep that was her.

Koronue walked over to them. It seemed things might get complicated, he wanted the girl. But he had smelt his friend's arousal at touching her. Who knows maybe she would allow both of them to bed her. They had shared women in their past, some at the same time. "We will not leave until they do. How does your throat feel?"

"Better, thank you." Kagome wanted to give him the finger. 'Why act like he gives a damn?' She was sure they had their own reasons for staying and it had nothing to do with concern for her. They had been rude to her every other time she'd seen them. Hell, they'd been rude right after she'd helped them the first night they'd met. She'd heard Koronue's contempt for humans when he spoke that night. Of course the Youko guy showed mostly indifference. Kind of reminded her of a certain youkai lord.

"KAGOME!!!" Inuyasha leapt into view. His eyes widened at seeing her, "Thank god." He ran over to her and pulled her into his arms. "Are you okay? I'm so sorry, I'll never leave you again."

She let her arms go around him and hugged him in return. She was still mad at him but he was still her friend. Youko and Koronue turned to leave, her protection had arrived. Neither bothered to make sure of her safety. The kit's scream stopped them, "Kagome, get away. Thats not Inuyasha."

Kagome heard him. "What," she looked up into red eyes. She tried to pull away but the arms held her. Before she could call out, she felt something slam into her chest. Something warm was running down her chest as she pulled back.

Shippo jumped up trying to save the girl and was knocked aside. They ran in time to catch her as she fell but the imposter was gone. Shippo got back to his feet. "Kagome, please don't die on me."

Youko moved the girl's hands to see the hole in her chest. She was going to die soon, they had to do something drastic it they wanted her to live. "I can't stop this, she's human."

"What the hell do you suggest?"

"We either wait here to hand her corpse over to her friends or one of us could mark her."
