Memories

Chapter Five

Inuyasha and Co. were running, he was looking for a certain demon flea. He'd woken up the night before covered in sweat screaming. He'd woken everyone up at his outburst. So he then told them about the reoccuring nightmares. Last night he'd been staring at his bloody hands covered as a child. He knew of only one person that could help him remember. He stopped suddenly when he felt something land on his cheek. A slap and groan later everyone came to a halt.

Their prey had found them. "Lord Inuyasha, its good to see you again."

"Hn. I was looking for you." Inuyasha felt the flea jump on his shoulder.

"Whatever for?"

"Tell me of a miko named Leiko." He got straight to the point.

"My Lord were did you hear that name?" The flea jumped up and down.

"I'll tell you later, now tell me what you know." Inuyasha sat down as he listened to the flea.

"Very well, but there is a reason you don't remember. You won't let yourself remember it seems." The group gathered around, all curious about Inuyasha as a child. "See your mother and you lived at the village located not far from Lord Inutaisho's castle. Originally you mother was a Lady born far from here. Your father found her on one of his many trips to the North. After taking your mother for a mate, he brought her back. She didn't feel comfortable living in the castle surrounded by demons so he took her there. Lord Inutaisho had heard of a powerful but young priestess, I believe the girl was only the age of eleven. She was the village's new preistess and quite skilled for someone so young. He took your mother who was pregnant with you at the time, to meet her and settle in the village. Her and your mother became fast friends, taking an instant liking to each other. The villagers didn't accept you or your mother at first but feared your father." He paused and looked around. Even the birds had grown silent, as if listening.

"The village cherished the young miko before her the village had been constantly under attack. Your mother gave birth to you, she helped your mother bring you into the world. The birthing was very hard on both of you. The girl stayed at your mother's side, if not for her the Lady would have died in childbirth. Lord Inutaisho came often to visit you and your mother. The miko made sure you were both safe, even from the villagers. Your father respected her greatly, even your brother came to care for the girl though he would never admit it. Your brother didn't bother to come see you, he told his father that he'd soiled the bloodline by siring you. One day your father was injured, and was resting at the village under Leiko's care. Your brother heard of his mishap and came to the village after so many years. Thats when he first layed eyes on you and her. The miko was now in her eightenth year and a real beauty if I recall."

"If I remember correctly, you were playing outside the village when your brother confronted you for the first time. Being himself he had you by the throat observing what he called his father's mistake. She could have killed your brother that day. She ran to your aid, from what I heard her and Lord Sesshomaru fought. Her being angry that he would attack a child and his pride being wounded. Inuyasha had ran to fetch his parents the minute Sesshomaru dropped him. No one knows exactly what happened between those two. After that day your brother started coming with your father to the village, he never came inside but stayed on the outskirts. A few months later, both men were hunting down another demon. Unknown to them both, the very demon was on its way to the village. He knew he couldn't defeat your father but wanted revenge. So he planned to kill his mate and his small son."

"He bothered no one else in the village calling out as he came in. That he was there to kill the whore of Lord Inutaisho and the bastard son. All the villagers ran and hid."

"She was there, wasn't she. It was her that stood in front of me and my mother." Inuyasha had a far away look in his eyes.

"Yes, she sensed the demon coming and went directly to you. For the demon didn't come alone, he was bent on a massacre. They attacked the village and she was the only there to defend it. Her luck held true, not only did she manage to stop the other demons she killed him. Both men arrived several hours later, too late of course. Everyone was safe thanks to the young girl."

"How did she die?"

"That is all speculation, the only ones that know the truth is her and you. The very next day, your mother and father were arguing with your brother. For some unknown reason you ran off after being told not to. I was there that day, we were all standing outside when Leiko's scream was heard. It was your name she screamed. We found both of you several minutes later. Unfortunately, she was dead, covered in claw marks. The ones across her throat ended her life. And there you were with a few scratches and covered in her blood. Some believed that it hadn't been you to inflict the damage, some believe you had a fit and killed the girl. You didn't speak again till months later. Thats all I can tell you, I'm afraid. Why do you ask?"

Inuyasha couldn't answer, he was looking down at his hands. All he could remember was the blood covering his small hands. Miroku spoke up, if there was a chance Inuyasha had truly killed the girl then her ashes being taken were not a good sign. They didn't need another Kikyo running around. "We came across that village two days ago. To make a long story short, Sesshomaru attacked Inuyasha when he got close to Leiko's grave. And the next morning Naraku stole her ashes."

"Please tell me you are kidding." The flea started bouncing up and down.

"I'm afraid not my good man. The ashes are indeed gone, falling into the hands of Naraku."

"Lord Inuyasha, you could be in serious danger. What if she is brought back and wants revenge for her death."

"I'm sure thats what Naraku is planning," Kagome placed a hand on the hanyou's knees. "I'm sure it wasn't you Inuyasha, you were just a child."

"It doesn't matter, Naraku will make sure she comes. Even if it means implanting a false memory." Sango knew how easy it was for the evil hanyou to get someone to do his dirty work.

"I did it, I killed her." Inuyasha was still staring at his hands. He leapt into the nearest tree ignoring the others. He closed his eyes as the images flashed before his eyes.

He saw himself as a small child, and a girl was handing him the ball he recalled playing with as a child. She was with him again walking beside him, hand in hand smiling down at him. Images flashed in a blur, all of them of her. Playing with him, walking with him, eating dinner with him and his mother. Then he recalled another one. He was outside playing with his ball and he'd looked up to find who he now knew was Sesshomaru standing over him. He was being lifted into the air crying until she'd released an arrow. It landed in between Sesshomaru's legs, warning him. He could see himself running to get his mother. Then he was standing looking at the back of her while she fired another arrow into approaching demons.

Tears ran down his cheeks as they all came crashing back, the only thing he couldn't recall is the day she died. Why couldn't he remember it? 'Was it because I killed her? Did I destroy the first friend I ever had with my own hands? Is that why Sesshomaru hates me so much? Did he know that I had killed her and all because she wouldn't have fought back.'

"A sad tale indeed," Myouga stared up at Lord Inuyasha. He wished he could tell the boy that he wasn't guilty of any wrong doing. But even his parents had doubts about his innocence. One of the reasons his father had the Tetsusiaga implanted in the tomb inside his eye. To help control his demonic blood. His father believed it possible that Inuyasha had lost control of his demonic blood that day. Everything pointed to the boy losing control and the young girl trying to get him to calm down causing her throat to be tore out in the process.

They set up camp for the night not wanting to disturb the hanyou lost in thought.

Naraku walked into the cave, dawn was quickly approaching and he was ready to leave again. The smell of blood hit his nose and he stopped at what he saw. The girl was staring straight at him, Oki's decapitated head was laying next to her withered body. He smiled at seeing the destruction. "I see you are once again with us."

"Tell me where to find Inuyasha." She took a step towards him, her long hair swaying behind her.

"Beautiful, truly beautiful. I can see hate burning in your eyes. You will kill Inuyasha for me." Naraku walked within a few inches of her kicking the corpse aside. He bent down to smell her neck and hair. He smiled to himself, she was very powerful. The scent she carried was her own. Most of his offspring carried his scent, marking them as his. Yet she had somehow erased any lingering scent of him. He reached a hand up to cup her face, "You will kill the hanyou for me, then you will return to me."
