The Jewel of Truth

Chapter Four


"What do you mean its already happened?" Kagome felt her heart sink as Miroku informed her that the black moon had appeared almost two days. 'On the very same evening that me and Rae had met.' It couldn't all be a coincident. "That means they've already been released. What are we going to do now?"

Rae was looking at one of her texts upon arriving. The better informed she was the better she liked it. She had never completely gone through each text. Only the parts that had caught her attention. "It says here that they targeted the most powerful youkai first and within months they were wiped out. Ichiro and Kaemon emerged from their tomb buried deep within the ravine, able to call upon creatures of immense power. Whatever that means, I'd say whatever they called the youkai couldn't defeat so they got their asses kicked. I'll have to keep decifering and reading if you wanna know more."

"The most powerful? That means Sesshomaru will be one of the first ones to die. We have to go warn him atleast." Kagome stood up ready to leave. "Can Kirara take us to the western lands? I know you two won't be able to go but I got to try."

"Of course," Sango called her companion. "Its only natural you want to head there first since Inuyasha is there."

"Inuyasha is with Sesshomaru?" Kagome's heart started fluttering in her chest. She'd known she'd have to run into him eventually but not this soon. "We got to get there as soon as possible. Rae you'll have to come of course."

She replaced her book and sighed. "Unfortunately, but I guess it can't be helped. I'm ready when you are. It was a pleasure to meet all of you and if I die anytime soon I hope you all have long healthy lives." She bowed and walked outside.

"What an interesting friend you have there Kagome," Miroku rubbed the back of his head. Too bad she was only interested in women or he would have been tempted to convince her to bear his child. The girl was unusual, he couldn't place his fingers on it but it was there.

"Yeah, I'll see you guys later. Take care while I'm gone and try not to have the baby till I get back Sango." She hugged her friends and took Kirara outside. "Can she take me all the way to his castle?"

"Don't worry Kirara knows you want to see Sesshomaru. She will take you to him."

Rae watched as the cute little kitten transformed in front of her into a big cat. "Shit, warn me next time, I almost shit myself." Was she suppose to ride her like a horse? Kagome climbed on so she followed suit.

"Hurry Kirara we need to get to Sesshomaru." The giant cat took off flying as fast as she could.


Sesshomaru was taking a break from his reading. His hand dropped upon the desk and he brought the other up to massage his eyes. He inspected the arm Inuyasha himself had once removed. It had taken a long time to grow back which still irked this Sesshomaru. The hanyou was snoring on the floor not far from his feet. He stood up to walk over and deliver a swift kick to his side when Tenseiga started pulsing along with Tetsusaiga. Inuyasha jumped to his feet the second his sword started letting off strange vibrations.

"Whats going on dammit?"

"Something is approaching." He centered his senses beyond his castle and found it. Something of immense power was making its way to his home. He made his way outside feeling his brother follow him. He would kill whatever had the nerve to invade his home. Jaken came scurrying up to him, "Lord Sesshomaru, something is coming and I cannot find Rin. She seems to be missing."

"Find her, if anything happens you will forfiet your life." Sesshomaru opened the doors to his home. As soon as he was standing in the evening sun he saw it. It came crashing through the trees bounding through his men. They were knocked aside just by the thing's aura alone. It was about ten feet in height, perhaps sixteen in length in the shape of a giant dog. It was much smaller than Sesshomaru in his full demon form.

Inuyasha looked the thing over. Something was wrong, it was letting off some type of energy he had never seen before. Whatever it was it wasn't a demon or a overgrown puppy. "What the hell is that thing?"

"This Sesshomaru does not know," he commanded his guards to stand back. He withdrew his whip from the tip of his fingers and struck at the beast. It bounced off not even causing the beast to flinch. "Very well." He unsheathed Tenseiga, preparing to kill. (AN: in the manga Toutousia eventually reforges Tenseiga after the Toukijin breaks. Tenseiga wanted to be reforged because it sensed a change in Sesshomaru's heart and wanted to become a weapon for him.)

Inuyasha wasn't about to let his brother get all the glory and charged transforming the Tetsusaiga. "I got this bastard." He brought his sword down preparing to use the wind scar. Energy erupted from the sword striking the beast head on. "Gotcha."

Sesshomaru jumped out the way when he saw Inuyasha unleash the power of the Tetsusaiga. "Fool." The dust cleared and it was still standing there. Unscratched and unharmed it charged towards the demon lord bent on tearing his head off. He dodged the attack bringing down Tenseiga to iniatate the attack that send it to the other world. (Which is what it did in the manga. Don't ask me how.) But nothing happened and Sesshomaru jumped back swearing.

"What do we do now since none of our attacks seem to have an effect on the damn thing?" Inuyasha threw his sword over his shoulder. He wasn't sure what the thing was but it wasn't of this world. They'd have one hell a time killing it.

Sesshomaru jumped up planning on tearing it apart piece by piece. He released his poison and took a swipe against the back. A jolt of power sent the lord flying into the nearest tree.

Inuyasha watched him skid to a halt against the tree knocking it down in the process. "Damn it."

"Lord Sesshomaru," Rin had been hiding from Jaken in the woods. Deciding to finally let the toad find her the eight year girl had made her way to the front of the castle. She stopped as she saw her lord being propelled into a tree. A big shiny, almost see through dog stood between her and her Sesshomaru. She saw his brother standing not far from him. She took a step forward and screamed when the dog turned to face her.

Inuyasha knew he wouldn't make it to the little girl in time.

Kagome and Rae entered the clearing leading to Sesshomaru's castle in time to hear a child's scream. Rae spotted the dog and the little girl. "Kagome down there. We gotta do something."

"Right, Kirara get us down there." Kirara dove between the dog and Rin landing infront of the girl. Kagome reached out her hand. "Get on NOW." She wasted no time in jumping into Kagome's outstretched arms.

"Fuck, watch out its coming," the dog charged bringing it's claws swinging down as Kirara took to the air. It raked across Rae's arm almost pulling her off the flying cat. She held on to Kagome's shirt feeling the sharp pain tearing across her upper arm.

Inuyasha watched as the girl was picked up by none other than Kagome. "Ka. Go. Me." His heart stopped as it swung its paw barely missing them as they returned to the air. The beast never took his eyes off his new prey. All of a sudden it reared back its head and started to howl in pain.

"Rae, are you okay?" Kagome heard the girl's sharp intake of breath.

"Yeah, its only a scratch I'll be fine but look." They turned to see the dog howling as if in pain. Its paw was smoking as if on fire but no flames could be seen. Rae looked down at her arm that had blood flowing freely. "Kagome, that's it. Thats why they haven't killed it yet they can't. You'll have to do it."

"What, if they can't kill it how can I?" Kagome wasn't sure how she'd be able to stop something Sesshomaru or Inuyasha couldn't even hurt.

"Trust me," she grabbed an arrow out of Kagome's quiver. Kagome turned to watch as she rubbed the tip into her blood. "Use this on it."

"Right," Kagome drew her bow. The dog stopped howling and charged at the humans females that had harmed him. His masters had assured him that no one was capable of bringing harm upon him. Yet his front paw felt like it was on fire. He charged to bring them out of the air.

Kagome notched the arrow and she saw Inuyasha charging the beast. "Inuyasha SIT!"

Inuyasha felt the tug around his neck and cursed. "Bitch." He looked up from his hole and watched as Kagome took aim and let her arrow fly. He gasped in suprise, instead of the usual bright light. It was a brilliant red pulsing as it cut through the air landing directly in the dog's chest who'd been leaping through the air.

Sesshomaru's attention snapped when he heard Rin's scream. He stood to see Inuyasha's human wench land infront of the girl taking her out of harms way. They took of into the air but the scent of fresh blood hung in the air. Now that Rin was safe he thought of how to destroy the beast. He heard the girl yell her command bringing his brother to his rightful place. His instincts told him to stand back. He watched the girl release an arrow. He'd seen her purification used before namely on himself. Something was different this time, it shone with the same brightness but the aura was tainted. The dog took it in the chest and fell to the ground landing almost on top of the hanyou.

"Hey watch it," Inuyasha had thought the damn corpse was going to land on him. It landed with a thud right beside him. There was big hole in the chest. A thick smoke was oozing from the chest causing it to twitch. Kirara landed a few feet away from him. Rin jumped off and ran to stand beside Sesshomaru giving him a big grin. Kagome slid off, her eyes stayed on Inuyasha as he climbed out his crater. "Kagome, why the hell did you do that for you stupid wench?"

Kagome saw red and yelled. "SIT, SIT, SIT, SIT, SIT, you ungrateful asshole." She walked over to Sesshomaru. "Hello."

Sesshomaru was puzzled as to why the human's arrow had been able to bring down the animal when neither of their father's fangs had worked. "How were you able to bring down the beast with just your arrow human?"

"Well I'll tell you since Inuyasha is being a jerk. Me and my friend found something you might want to see. If we could go inside we can explain everything. Oh," her eyes widened. "Thats right Rae you're hurt."

Sesshomaru followed her gaze and spotted her companion for the first time. Her hair was lighter than that of Inuyasha's wench. He had always found Inuyasha's wench to be prettier than most humans. His breath caught when he met the eyes of the girl, she was beautiful. He'd never seen eyes of that color on a human before. Something nagged at the back of his mind and he swiftly hushed it. The wind kicked up bringing the scent of her blood to his nose. His demon roared to life and with it the urge to taste the blood that smelt so sweet. "Come, we will go inside to tend to her wound. Then you can explain to this Sesshomaru what is going on."

Rae slid of the cat who returned to her smaller size. Kagome grabbed her uninjured arm and they trailed behind the demon and the little girl. Who was running circles around him as if she were an airplane. They shut the doors behind them cutting off the curses of a certain hanyou that was still planted several feet in the ground.

Sesshomaru sat behind the desk and waited for the miko to tend to the other girl's wound. Once again he had a nagging feeling that he'd seen that girl before. Which was impossible because it couldn't have been recently or he'd remember. While Kagome was wrapping the cut up Inuyasha barged into the study in a mood.

"Damn woman thats one hell of a way to say hello." Inuyasha crossed his arms waiting for an apology.

"Oh shut up." This came from Rae. "She saved your pathetic ass and you stand there like you have the right to be upset. You are both lucky we showed up. I can't believe I let her talk me into coming here to save someone like you. You haven't seen her in over two years and the first thing you do is call her a bitch." At Inuyasha's shocked expression she continued. "Yes I heard you."

Sesshomaru's attention perked at the declaration, he himself had barely heard the hanyous insult and he'd been standing closer. How did she happen to hear when she'd been further away and in the air. "Enough, now what has brought you back to us miko?"

"Yeah, well maybe Rae can explain it." Kagome walked over to Inuyasha and grabbed his hand bringing him closer to the desk. "You might wanna hear this to."

Rae sighed. Her arm hurt, she had a headache and she now had to explain everything to these two. Something told her the half-breed was going to be a pain in the ass. She drew out her books and placed them in front of the elder brother. "Here take a look, the monk told us that the black moon has already passed."

Sesshomaru began to read over the paragraph the girl had pointed out. He began to growl when it stated that all demons would be wiped out by this new threat. "You expect this Sesshomaru to believe that all Youkai will be destroyed?"

"You don't have to believe it Sesshomaru. Its the truth," Kagome tried to get him to understand. "In me and Rae's time there are hardly any youkai left. I've only seen a few my whole life. Not to damage your pride but look what happened outside."

"Exactly, the book states that all youkai were destroyed by creatures that they could not defeat." Rae pointed so the Lord could read it. "I'm willing to bet that you and him both tried killing it before we arrived. Were either of you two able to hurt it?"

"Heh," Inuyasha crossed his arms not wanting to admit it. "Its dead now so what does it matter?"

"Don't be a blockhead," Rae turned to Sesshomaru hoping he'd atleast be reasonable. "Those things are the minions controlled by none other than Ichiro and Kaemon. For some reason which I haven't been able to find hated all youkai."

"How was the miko able to bring it down with her arrow?" Sesshomaru tried to back up. The girl was standing very close to him which couldn't be help since they were both looking at the same book. Her smell was taunting his nose, another minute and he might give into the urge to bury his face in her neck. This Sesshomaru would not humiliate himself, so he backed up.

"Well, says here," she placed the other book infront of him. "That during their transformation into gods Midoriko with help from the village elder's daughter were able to put it on hold sort of. They were sealed by her purifaction powers and the girl's blood. Well Kagome has the jewel that contains Midoriko's soul and I would appear to be this girl's reincarnation. Seems that the interruption caused them to be flawed giving them a weakness. With the jewel in her possession Kagome's purfication powers are strong enough and with my blood its deadly. I'm making all this up as I go along, so you can stop me anytime."

"Seems plausible to this Sesshomaru. There are still many questions that need answering. We know how to destroy the minions but how do we defeat a god?" He looked at the girl.

She threw her hands in the air. "Beats the hell out of me. I don't have all the answers you know. Last week my biggest worry was whether or not I would have a date for this weekend."

Inuyasha stomped his foot. "Thats just great. What the hell are we going to do?" He'd heard enough. Was he suppose to sit here and believe that all demons were about to be wiped out by two humans that decided to play god. He felt Kagome touch his arm trying to comfort him.

"Lord Sesshomaru," Rae grabbed the book and started thumbing through the pages. "It said that they stole an ancient scroll containing what was needed for the ritual. Think its possible for us to find where they got the scroll from and maybe there is a way to change them back. What was done might be able to be undone. If we all started looking we might be able to find something."

"Do you think its really possible?" Kagome didn't want to see the death's of so many of her friends. The wolf tribe, Kouga, Shippo even Sesshomaru who really wasn't her friend.

"Well it is possible to change the past we just proved that."

"Really how?" Inuyasha asked.

Rae glanced from her book to the three. "Because it says here The Lord of the Western Lands was the first to fall."
