Destiny For A Reason

Chapter Three

"Wow, there's alot of trees here. I didn't pack any allergy medicine either," Kimi grabbed her own brown bag and began to dig through. All three had decided to pack four changes of clothes, extra pair of shoes, and bathroom needs. Michiko had been most distressed when she realized there wouldn't be a place to plug up her oversized curling iron. It was begining to get cold, the season just now turning into winter. So an overcoat was also added to the bag, along with her wool socks, yeah she was all set. Only, one problem presented itself and that was food. They each carried a thermostat, Kagome had reassured them they wouldn't starve while they were here. As for protection the girls didn't have anything but their own skills and wit. Kagome found her old bow collecting dust in the storage shed. She promised if necessary there were weapons to be easily found in the village. If the village was still there that is. A sneeze rang through the clearing, "Dammit, told you so. Better hope we never have to hide or we're fucked."

"Watch your mouth, young lady." Kagome scolded her. They were standing beside the well and no one was to be seen. Everything looked the same as the day she left. Except this time Inuyasha wasn't there waiting for her to return. 'We should prolly head towards the village and see if Kaede is still alive. I'm finally back and I can't move. Will anyone be there?"

"You're about to be allergic to mom also, sis. Cause if she stands there any longer shes going to grow roots." Michiko swung her bag over her shoulder. They were finally here and she was ready to scope out the local guys. God willing they don't get speared on sight of course.

"I'm going, I'm going! Remind me to ground you two when we get back home. We should prolly head towards the village and see if anyone is there that I recognize." She took the lead and the girls took up the rear. Each step she took her heart began to beat faster. They crossed the field in silence each lost in their own thoughts. One mentally kicking herself for not being better prepared and the other about who to flirt with first.

They made it all the way to the outskirts and could see the village resting in the valley before their presence became known. All hell broke lose when it did. Several men on horseback came riding straight towards them spears and swords drawn. Kimi jumped behind her sister, "I love you and all sis, but since you are older you get to be speared first. Be my shield!"

"What! Get out from behind me, grow some balls already. Besides its only a few men, I'll just charm them." She flipped her blonde hair over her shoulder.

"If I grew a set of balls, I'd have problems keeping you off em' at night."

"Shhhh.. here they come." Kagome bowed as the pulled up short before the three.

"Halt, who goes there? State your business," the guy in front, obviously the leader, stared down at the so-called women. The older looked almost like the women of the village but the two in back had to be demons. He turned his attention back to the elder one. He took it back she was far prettier than the girls in the village, very beautiful. Her long black hair was pulled back with some kind of fabric and her face was turned up. Her face, he knew that face. "It can't be you. Lady Kagome?"

"Yes, I'm Kagome. I'm here to see Kaede, if she is still with us." She held her breath dreading the answer that was sure to follow.

"Yes, Lady Kaede is still among us. Though she is very old. The years haven't been kind to her I'm afraid, she has lost her sight and is very fragile. Come and I will take you to her. Men lower your weapons and show the respect due Lady Kagome." The men lowered their weapons and bowed to their visitor. "This way, she will be very happy to see you've returned."

They followed on foot, declining the ride that was offered. Women and children came rushing out their homes to get a glimpse. Some of the children even ran up Michiko to grab a strand of hair. "Wow, its the color of the sun, and its soft," one child even took a few strands with him.

"If another brat pulls my hair, I'm going to get mid-evil on their ass." She scowled at the next kid that came running to her side and only got a toothless grin in return.

"Isn't he a little too young for you? I seriously doubt he has a job yet." Kimi smiled at the little boy now hugging Mich's leg. He couldn't be no more than five years old. "Hi, you're cute but might as well forget it kid. You don't have a mercedes or a swiss bank account so you won't even make the list."

"Very funny, now help get him off me. I can't feel my leg anymore, he's cutting off my circulation." She bent down and pried his hand from around her thigh.


Kagome stepped through the curtain into the small hut. A fire was lit in the middle making it nice and cozy inside. Only a few things scattered the barren place. In the corner on an old and worn out pallet sat Kaede. She had her eyes closed in meditation, or so Kagome thought.

"Come in child, I knew you'd be returning to us."

She threw herself into the old miko's arms. "Kaede, I've missed you so much. I tried to come back but I couldn't, the well sealed itself on me." Tears streamed down their faces, tears of happiness and regret. "What do you mean? How did you know I'd come back?"

"Not long ago, perhaps a few weeks ago, while I dreamt I had a vision. It was you dear child, but it wasn't. You had aged some but you were still the young girl that I knew. You have come once again in our time of need. Your help is needed and here you be. I spoke of this dream to Shippo and he went to get the others. We agreed they'd wanna be here for your return." The old woman's shoulders slumped in dispair. "There is much to tell but first invite your children in, it must be getting cold outside. Don't look so shocked dear, I knew ye wouldn't be coming alone this time."

She called for her daughters to enter the dwellings which they quickly complied. "Please, tell me everything that has happened. I need to know."

"Are ye sure ye want to know everything, even about Inuyasha?"

"Yes, where is he and is he happy?" tears were sliding down her pale cheeks.

"Let me start at the beginning child. You two over there might as well sit down for it will be awhile to tell this tale." They sat behind their mother, also ready to hear the tale.


"The very day you disappeared, we were all suprised. We searched the area for any sign of your whereabouts. Inuyasha tried leaping through the well to go after you and bring you back, Kagome. He swore cause it seemed to have lost its magic and would not let him through. Later, that night, Sango, Miroku, andShippo tried to console Inuyasha, for he was very distraught. None of us knew what had happened until the next morning when my sister Kikyo showed up in the village asking to speak with Inuyasha. I'm not sure what words were spoken but their voices could be heard. A very heated discussion it must have been. Minutes later, he returned inside telling us that Kikyo was once again among the living. Having a body of flesh and blood once more thanks to the wish you had just made on the sacred jewel. I'm not sure what became of him, he left the next morning and I haven't seen him since. As for Miroku and Sango they moved back to her village to rebuild it. They eventually married and have several kids from what Shippo tells me. The cub decided to stay with me, incase you were to ever come back through the well. He visits them often but always returns to me. The young boy, Kohaku, took the young girl, Rin as his wife. They haven't any children to speak of just yet. It has been years since we've had any trouble among us but lately there have been rumors. They say he is just as strong as the hanyou, Naraku but is dragon demon. A few of the Demon Lords have fallen to this new threat as well as villages. He seems determined to wipe out anyone who opposes him, be it demon or human. I wish I could tell you more but thats all the information I have at this time. Shippo should be back within a day or two with the others perhaps we will learn more then. Till then tell me about yourselves girls."
