Rin sat patiently at the bedside of her lord's new mate. Sesshoumaru had to attend to business and had asked her to stay by the sleeping woman. It had been almost a week and a half since her master preformed the ritual, and he seemed slightly agitated as of late. Perhaps she should've been awake by now? But she honestly didn’t know. She didn’t know a lot of what was going on. All she did know what that this was the new lady of the house and Rin liked her a great deal. She was nice and that was a relief. Yet still her Lord’s agitation had brought about a tension in the castle and it was a bit frightening. But whatever the problem was Rin wasn’t about to question it, she would just stay in this room as instructed and sit here by her side, waiting to do anything that was required of her.
With a small sigh Rin pulled herself from the bedside to retrieve a chair in the corner. Quietly she pulled the chair beside the bed and crawled into it, covering her little body with a warm blanket at the foot of the bed. She could at least rest while she waited for the sleeping woman to wake up.
****************
It had been way past the time he anticipated for her to wake up, and it was starting to worry Sesshoumaru. He had even called a doctor from one of the local villages to look at her and he had said that everything seemed all right. She was healing nicely he knew that much, but still the fact that she wasn’t awake made him nervous. Perhaps the marking had been too much for her, but what other choice did he have? None, he had no other choices.
His business with the other lands and lords of those lands was taking a backseat right now and he knew that, but at the moment he couldn’t focus on anything but her. The full moon was approaching and the rest of the ritual had to happen before or on that night. It couldn’t happen after, but the nagging thought that she might not wake up in time merely plagued him more. It was exhausting, this situation, and he knew he was causing unrest within his home, but he didn’t know what else to do. And that only angered him more. He hated feeling so weak.
As he paced he could feel his eyes straining to stay opened and he knew he was too exhausted to keep up this pacing. He needed to rest. And perhaps a little bit of rest would do him some good, but only a little. Of course if she were to awaken, Rin would come and get him immediately.
Sesshoumaru quit his pacing and allowed himself to drift to his chair. Slowly he let himself drop into the comforting embrace of the oversized chair, relaxing into it and allowing his eyes to close for the first time in the past week and a half.
*****************
It was late night, and the darkness outside had enveloped the entire castle. Clouds were hiding the bright moonlight from view and everything was still. Rin had fallen asleep and so had the lord of the palace.
But at last, the wounded angel stirred, and for the first time in ten days her eyes at last opened to take in the quiet darkness. Slowly she pulled herself up from lying down and peered around the room. She almost winced in the pain of having to support herself until she realized she wasn’t in any pain. Surprisingly her body didn’t hurt anymore, and her wings had mended themselves. Smiling to herself she flexed them ever so gently, letting them get used to movement as she turned her gaze to the other presence in the room.
The little girl that had been tending her wounds was in a chair beside her bed sleeping contentedly. Her soft brown eyes were closed in a peaceful sleep and a warm blanket was draped over her. Slowly Ayana pulled her stiff body off of the luxurious bed and stretched out her unused muscles. Quietly she made her way to the young child and carefully pulled the blanket up further upon her small body, blocking out the chill in the night air.
A contented sigh escaped the young girl’s mouth and Ayana watched as she burrowed deeper into the chair she rested in. With a small smile she allowed her fingers to caress the soft skin of the child’s cheek and then slowly and quietly she made her way out of the room to find Sesshoumaru.
Stepping out into the hallway she let her eyes adjust to the darkness. Everything was so familiar here, she in all reality didn’t even need to let her eyes adjust. She knew this castle like the back of her hand. Sesshoumaru’s chambers were at the end of her hall to her right, but he wasn’t there, she could feel his presence downstairs, which was to her left.
Quietly she made her way down the stairs, reveling in the feel of her surroundings. She was nervous and timid just like she had been the first time she descended these stairs her first evening here. He had been waiting for her than night, standing at the base of them in silence. All she could see in the darkness was his golden eyes shining with a warmth she had never before seen during the days she had spent with him.
That night he had offered her his hand and held her in his strong arms as she cried. That night he allowed the sort of comfort she had been seeking. That night he let her know he would forever be there for her. A small smile came to her face as she realized that he had kept his promise. He took her back and was keeping her safe now.
At last she came to the landing, letting her eyes wander over the room around her. Nothing stirred as she stood in the quiet room, but she could hear him, she could hear the sound of his soft breathing. He was in his study… sleeping. Smiling to herself she quietly made her way to his study door, and gently pushed it open. Not a sound was made as the door swung open and the lord of the castle came into her line of sight.
He was more breathtaking than she had ever seen him. His body was fully relaxed in the chair he sat upon. There was no stress evident in his features; he looked like an angel himself. His head was reclined back upon the soft cushion of his chair with his hair cascading all around his body. He seemed to glow with a softness she never knew he possessed. He looked so gentle and serene in his sleep and it was almost hard to believe that this was the same icy lord that feared so many. Just looking upon him made her body react with a wanting and a fear she hadn’t felt until this moment. She was terrified to be near him, terrified that he may still hate her or be regretful of what he had done. But she couldn’t keep herself away from him. Her body yearned to be near to him and her fingers ached to run themselves along his strong jaw line. To trace the stripes along his cheeks and caress the soft skin of his lips with the tips of her nails.
She hadn’t even realized it until now; she was standing directly over the sleeping demon lord. He seemed to have a pull about him, like gravity itself. Nothing could keep her from him, not even the fear of waking him and the possible hatred he may still feel. She knew somewhere inside that he didn’t, but in the back of her mind… she was still afraid.
But she was so close, so close to him, and she just had to touch him. Slowly she reached her arm out to the silent form in front of her, and at long last the tips of her fingers came to rest upon the soft skin of his warm face. Slowly she allowed herself the simple pleasure of exploring his sleeping features, remembering just what he felt like. Just like the first time she had stroked the prominent marking upon his face that day in the clearing.
*****************
It was warm and his eyes were closed from the harsh light of the sun. It felt good on his face and the heat of the day was perfectly cooled with a nice breeze. It had been a while since he had been out to the clearing and it was nice to be here with her. He had found her out here this day, and she had been slightly upset with him, but now, now she was fine.
A small smile came to his lips as he felt the warmth of the sun leave his face and the coolness of her shadow settle over him. Slowly his eyes opened to behold the beauty above him. Her soft red hair was held back from her face allowing the smile she wore to be seen freely. Her wings were spread wide, protecting his eyes from the harsh light. He didn’t move, and honestly he didn’t know if he could if he tried and honestly he didn’t want to. All he really wanted was to feel her soft body against his yet again. He had denied himself for far too long, and today he would relish in the feel of her. But today he would take his time, today he would allow her to come to him, unhurried.
Slowly he watched as she gathered the bottom of her kimono up so she could sit atop him. Carefully she stepped over him, allowing the bottom to fall from her hands, then slowly she descended and she placed herself upon his lap. The smile stayed upon her face, as she held her arms out to him.
“My lord, may I hold you?” she murmured, still with her arms held out to him.
It was the oddest question he had heard in all of his years. Most women desired him to hold them, but he had never once been held himself, not even as a child. Yet despite everything he portrayed to others being held had always sounded nice.
Slowly he sat up into her embrace and felt her small arms wrap around him. In that instant he felt as though all of the turmoil and stress he had suffered in the past few weeks was instantly gone. He felt lighter and more at peace. A small smile came to his face as he nuzzled into the warmth of her neck. He never knew something could feel this wonderful.
Slowly he looked up into his angel’s eyes as she peered down at him with a small all her own. A warmth seemed to radiate from her and he could feel it all over his body calming his frazzled nerves and relaxing his exhausted body. Her hands lifted from around him to rest tenderly on the side of his face, and slowly he felt her tender touch slip through the length of his hair, stroking him lovingly. Again his eyes closed as he enjoyed her touches, and the quietness of the clearing was interrupted from the gentle purr she pulled from him.
He heard a slight giggle from her and immediately opened his eyes to question her action, but all he found was the tender expression he had seen before.
Sesshoumaru at that moment did something he wasn’t sure he had ever done in his life, he laughed.
“What my lord? What’s funny?” she murmured tenderly stroking his hair as her smile widened.
“I’m not sure Angel, I’m not sure.” Sesshoumaru replied, allowing his own hands to reach up into the soft red hair of the woman above him and pull it free from its ties. Tenderly he mimicked her, stroking her hair as she did his.
Her eyes too closed as she enjoyed the feel of his touch, and slowly he relished in the feel of her closeness as she leaned down to rest her forehead against his.
“My lord,” she murmured, “May I touch your markings?”
Slowly his eyes opened to regard hers and without hesitation he nodded once his answer. One hand slipped from his hair to begin her exploration of his face. He felt the gentle glide of her fingertips as she traced the stripes upon his cheeks and the crescent upon his forehead. She repeated her actions several times, and quietly he sat there allowing her to do so. In all actuality this was perhaps the most intimate he had ever been with a woman and it continued to astound him. Every sweep of her fingers sent chills running through his body, adding to the fire that raged within his body she had created within him the first time he laid his eyes upon her that afternoon.
He felt as though his heart would burst as he felt the warmth of her breath wash over his lips and he anticipated the feel of her lips upon his. It felt like an eternity had passed as she finally leaned down to him and allowed the tender skin of her supple lips to rest upon his in the first kiss they had shared in some time.
The darkness of the room had intensified and in his sleep Sesshoumaru felt something near to him, but the happiness he felt during his dream prevented him to wake from his slumber. Then he felt a cool wetness landed upon his warm skin.
Suddenly his amber eyes snapped open to regard his surroundings and what he found was a much needed relief. His angel had awakened and her eyes were closed to his as her lips rested against his own. Tenderly he reached his hands out to her, coming in contact with her tender skin which only startled her.
The soft blue of her gaze opened quickly to regard him and quickly she pulled away from the warmth of his body. The tear he felt upon his skin wasn’t the only one she had shed as he quietly sat in his chair watching as more spilled down her innocent face.
Slowly he reached to her desperate to clean away her sorrow, but this only startled her more and before he could caress her face she had turned from him and hurriedly rushed for the door.
No, she would not run from him, not this time. Anger rose within him as he watched her retreat from him, and he knew at that moment that he was tired of these games. He was tired of her fearing him, and he was tired of missing her as much as he did. Tonight was the night, tonight he would have her. All of her. Tonight he would know why she left and tonight she would find out that she would never be leaving again.
Quickly he removed himself from his chair and closed the distance between them. The door had been pulled open slightly by the time he caught up with her and without thinking twice he slammed his large hand upon it, closing it effectively. She would not escape him now, and slowly he pushed himself up against her trembling form, pinning her to the door to let her know of his closeness. The feeling of her body was almost too much and he nearly lost control at that moment, but he knew that tonight must be taken with precaution. He must be patient and not scare her too badly.
She trembled beneath him and slowly he leaned down to inhale her intoxicating scent. She smelled just as she had before, only sweeter this time. Gently he nuzzled her as her trembling increased, he knew he was scaring her, but he had to touch her in some way. Tenderly he kissed the shell of her ear as he whispered quietly to her and the dark night that surrounded them,
“Not tonight Angel, tonight you will not escape me. Tonight we will finish everything.”
Her trembling continued as he pulled her into his body, picking her up from the floor and carrying her up to his room through the hidden chamber in his study.
His mate would be bonded to him before the full moon, and that was just fine with him. Now they had more time to be together.
A smile came to his lips and slowly he lowered his burning gaze to the soft blue of her frightened one.
“Do not worry my love, everything will be all right.” He murmured, smiling at her as he entered into his room, closing the door behind them, sealing out the rest of the world..
