Chapter 5: Feelings Revealed

The young miko looked intently at the Demon Lord. ‘Loyalty? If loyalty is that important to him then he would never stray from a chosen mate….gasp! How can I be thinking of Sesshomaru that way! Oh no….what’s going on?’

There was a sudden rustle in the trees which Sesshomaru’s sensitive dog demon ears. “I will return to check on you again. Farewell.” With that, the Demon Lord was gone. The young miko stood looking into the trees where he disappeared. There was a great thump behind her.

Inuyasha jumped down from the tree and roughly grabbed her shoulder. Clawed hands once again grabbed Kagome, but these were nowhere near as gentle as the last pair. A shiver went through Kagome’s body, this time of fear.

“What are you doing out here all alone! Where do you think you are going? Shippo got back to camp ten minutes ago!” He yelled.

“I was gathering wood!”

“Looks to me like you were enjoying the scenery.”

“That’s because I heard something in the woods and I was trying to figure out what it was!”

“Stupid bitch! You could’ve been killed!” Inuyasha screamed.

“For your information, I’m not a normal human, I’m a MIKO! And I can take care of myself without your help.”

“Fine then! Next time you are in trouble I’ll just let you handle it. Until you beg for help!”

“Don’t bother to wait for that, it’ll never come!”

“Get your shard seeking ass back to camp now!”

“Fine!”

The furious Miko ran back to camp, clutching the firewood close to her body. Thoughts of her old Inuyasha ran through her head. Then, thoughts of Sesshomaru went through. ‘He is so calm, and polite, and loyalty is important to him…he’s even polite when he’s about to destroy you. He’s the opposite of Inuyasha in almost every way. Wait! What is this I’m feeling…I can’t actually like Sesshomaru can I?’ The miko had just begun to explore this option when she reached the camp. Sango and Miroku sat around the fire; two blankets were on one side, and one on the other. (Neither Kagome nor Sango wanted Miroku to sleep on the same side of the fire as them…lecherous monk that he is.)

Shippo jumped up and ran to Kagome. “Are you ok Okasaan? We heard you and Inuyasha screaming. What happened?” The young kit asked.

As soon as she caught her breath, Kagome smiled wearily at him. “We just had another fight about not straying from camp for too long. Inuyasha doesn’t understand that I have powers now, and I can control them. That’s all. Don’t worry. Shall I cook some ramen?” She reassured the young fox demon, and forestalled any other questions. She set about making dinner for her friends, still absently thinking about Sesshomaru.

In her mind, she could still see his features. ‘His smooth skin, pointed ears, pale complexion made even more pronounced by the dark purple streaks on his cheeks, the crescent moon settled on his forehead like a gem on a prince’s crown…a god’ She sighed, and kept the ramen from burning. Sango noticed that her best friend seemed a little preoccupied, and assumed that it was the fight with Inuyasha. In reality, the fight just liberated Kagome and gave her a chance to ignore Inuyasha for a few days.

Back in his palace in the western lands, the Demon Lord found himself unable to get the young miko out of his head. ‘The raven hair flying as she spun around, the wide chocolate eyes looking into his without fear, and the amazing range of emotions showing nakedly on her face…beautiful’ The young miko was more beautiful than any female demon that he ever saw. Moreover, she had a heart to match her beauty. Warm and loving, and loyal. She had a determined feistiness and independent streak that showed she could take care of herself, but she was willing to allow a man the pride of taking care of her. She was a perfect mate in his mind, and he thought he was crazy. He was Lord Sesshomaru, hater of all humans. He had to see her again.

The next day Sesshomaru got his chance to see Kagome again. She sensed a jewel shard in a demon a few miles away from their campsite, and they went to investigate. The scorpion demon proved to be a tough fight, so Inuyasha insisted that Kagome run away.

“I don’t care if you have miko powers now! I’m not going to lose my jewel shard detector because she thinks she is all-powerful and mighty now! Get out of here NOW!” He yelled.

Kagome took off. Tears of anger and frustration ran down her face. About ten minutes later Kagome found herself in an empty clearing. She stopped running and tried to catch her breath, still crying.

That’s how Sesshomaru found her. Standing bent over with her hands on her knees, quietly crying out her pain. He walked over to her, and lifted her chin. At the feel of a claw on her chin, Kagome shuddered. At first, it was in fear, but when her eyes met gold with purple lids, it was something else. Tears still ran freely down her cheeks. Sesshomaru looked into her eyes for a few moments, reading the pain and loss in them. Then he ran a claw down the girl’s cheek, trying to reassure her. When her breaths shortened and she closed her eyes in pleasure, Sesshomaru was taken aback. Kagome opened her eyes, and the tears stopped. She smiled at him, and he could hold back no longer. When his touch invoked such a reaction, and stopped her tears, it showed that maybe, just maybe she felt the same as he did. He slowly leaned closer to her, cupping her cheek in his hand. He hesitated for a moment when he could almost touch her nose, then turned his head and captured her lips with his, pressing against them gently.

Kagome was completely unprepared for Sesshomaru’s kiss. Her head reeled when he pressed his lips against hers. A thousand emotions seemed to erupt in her, making her dizzy. Without thought, she pressed back.

When he felt Kagome accept and return his kiss, Sesshomaru lost it. His hand left her cheek to wrap around her waist and pull her closer. Soon after, Kagome’s hands went around his neck. The kiss deepened. It was a sweet kiss, filled with passion, but it was quiet passion. It was the first kiss of love. The sweet rhapsody of demon and miko was shattered in an instant.

“What the Fuck are you doing Kagome? Whoring yourself to my brother?” Inuyasha’s voice cut through the peace like a hot knife through butter.

The two broke apart with shock, but Sesshomaru pulled Kagome back into his embrace. He released her again to grab his sword.

“How dare you insult Kagome in that manner? She has shown you nothing but loyalty, and you have treated her worse than a slave! You have no honor, and have no right to insult one such as her! You don’t deserve her loyalty!” He stood with his sword in hand; ready to cut the Hanyou to pieces.

Inuyasha ripped out his sword, but Tetsaiga did not transform. It would not fight for him when he was not protecting Kagome, but in essence attacking her. Inuyasha threw the sword down, and lunged at Sesshomaru with his claws.


Well, that’s it for chapter five…you’ll find out what happens in the fight in chapter six! I just couldn’t wait for a sweet moment with Kagome and Sesshomaru.
