The Storm

Kagome stood by the well, waiting for Sango to catch up to her. Her long, black hair, blowing in the wind, she looked so hurt. There was a deep sadness in her eyes. Sango finally caught up with her. She looked sad also.
“Well, I guess this is it huh?” Sango broke the silence.

“Yeah, I guess so.” Kagome’s eyes fell to the floor. She watched the tall grass sway for a few seconds, it was quite a windy day in the feudal era .

“Damn, I’m going to miss you girl.” Sango said embracing her, not wanting to let her best friend go. “What am I going to do with all the guys around, you’re leaving, Zimorah is pregnant, noone will have my back anymore.” She teased. She just wanted Kagome to smile.

“ I’m gonna miss you so much” Kagome sighed, holding back her tears. “I just, I can’t stay here, not right now.”

“I know”. Sango told her. Kagome hugged her again.

“Please, please, take care of InuYasha”. She whispered in Sango’s ear.

“I will, we all will.” She assured her.

“Hey, you be nice to Miroku, he loves you.” Kagome teased.

“Yeah, yeah. I will.”

“Hey, Kagome, wait!” Shippo was running towards her. Kagome forgot how much he has grown. He was almost taller the she was. He caught up to her. “I just wanted to say goodbye.” He looked so sad, Shippo was very attached to her, always was. As soon as he hugged her, she felt tears running down her face. Sango was strong, until she saw Kagome crying, she started crying along with her.

“I’d better go now”. She stepped away from Shippo and Sango, looking at them one more time before she entered the well. Kagome had already said her goodbyes to InuYasha
last night....ALL last night. After she returned home, Kagome went to sleep, she knew she had to get up early. As she slept, her window flew open, she jumped up only to find InuYasha standing there. He walked over towards her and sat on her bed.
“InuYasha.”

“Hey you”. He gave her an awkward smile. “How many times I gotta tell you not to fall asleep with these candles burnin’?” He joked, not sure of what else to say. Kagome grinned as she sat up, he noticed she was wearing one of his favorite t-shirts.

“I was lookin’ for that.” He growled playfully. Then, there was silence. They just stared at each other.
“InuYasha.....I-“

“Ssh...no words...its okay.” He said, gently placing his finger on her lips. Kagome’s eyes began to water. She swallowed hard to fight her tears. He leaned in to kiss her, it was as if they had not broken up at all. Suddenly, she turned away.

“I...can’t do this.......I need to say it and you won’t let me.” Her tears finally fell as she spoke. Her forehead was leaning against his. All InuYasha could do was shake his head, that was his way of telling her “no”.

“I don’t want to hear it.” He whispered.

“Thats not fair.” She whispered back to him. Her delicate, soft hands caressed his face. She noticed he was crying also. He pulled her as close to him as he could and kissed her again.
Kagome tried to turn away from him.

“Please......don’t “ InuYasha pleaded with her. “I just can’t...I don’t want to hear you say goodbye.”

“Oh...yeah....I guess I didn’t think of how-“

“Sssh.....just let me hold you.” His whisper was weak, like he was going to cry aloud at any second. Kagome threw her arms around him, they clung to one another as if time would stand still for them. She gasped at the feel of his light kiss on her neck. Slowly, she kissed his lips, he opened his mouth, allowing her tongue entry. Her hands softly ran through his hair. He let out a soft moan. She gently tugged at the tie of his kimono. As she leaned back onto the bed, pulling him on top of her, he knew exactly where this was going while slowly taking off her t-shirt. She let his hands roam all over her skin. In no time, his kimono was off. He looked at her, his eyes full of love and lust, Kagome returned his gaze. He leaned in, their lips touched as she wrapped her legs around him. InuYasha had promised himself that things would not happen the way it did last night but there he was, in Kagome’s arms once more. He knew it would damn near kill him to see her leave the next morning but still, his need to see her....to feel her, just to be with her, over whelmed him in ways he could not describe or resist.

The next morning, bright and early, Kagome slid out of the bed. She took a shower and got dressed. Her luggage was already in her mother’s car. Kagome sat down on her bed where InuYasha was peacefully sleeping. Gently, she ran her fingers through his thick, silver hair one last time. Memories of all their journeys, adventures and arguments flashed through her mind. She smiled at the sight of him sleeping, tied to the sacred tree. ‘Thats were we first met’ She thought. Who knew things would turn out the way they did?

“Kagome, honey, we have to get going”. Her mother’s voice was kind, understanding. She knew InuYasha spent the night there. Kagome took a long breath, trying not to cry as she leaned over towards him. She planted a soft kiss on his lips.
“Goodbye......InuYasha. I love you.” She whispered. Kagome stood up, grabbed her purse and walked out. His eyes slowly opened once he heard the car start, he jumped up and looked out of the window. Their eyes met once more as her mother drove off. He wasn’t asleep at all, he just could not handle saying “Goodbye.”

Being amongst the clouds, Kagome realized how beautiful the sky looked up close. She’d never been on an airplane, nor has she been to New York either. Kagome was excepted into two of the best art colleges in the world. One, in Tokyo where she lived, the other in New York. She planned on staying home but after all the pain, after all she and InuYasha had been through, for her own sanity Kagome decided to leave. This occasion should have been the happiest, most exciting time in her life but was not. She had the hardest year of her life, even more difficult then losing her father so many years ago.

She looked at the ring InuYasha gave to her swinging from her neckless. The ring belonged to his mother, just a simple, silver ring with some kind of tribal markings on it. InuYasha was told that his father gave the ring to his mother. Kagome remembered he had given it to her last year. Even though they hd been together long before, he waited until they grew closer . He still had her class ring, Kagome wanted him to keep it. As she played with the ring, everything that happened flashed throughout her mind. Her face felt warm, tears began to fall down her pretty face. ‘Oh gods, not here.’ She thought. No matter what she did, Kagome could not stop the flow of tears from flowing. The flight attendant stopped and passed her some tissues.

“Ma’am, are you alright?” The lady asked with concern in her voice.

“Yes, yes. Thank you.” Kagome took the tissues and wiped her face.

Kagome thought about the day that turned her world upside down. The day she and InuYasha had to tell her mother what was really going on. Only a few weeks after her senior year began, she remembered sitting at the dinner table next to InuYasha. They were so nervous, neither of them looked up from their plates. Sota kept asking what was wrong, as did her grandfather. Her mother already knew, she was just waiting for Kagome to tell her. Dinner was finally ready, nothing out of the norm. The minute her mother placed the tuna rolls on Kagome’s plate, her stomach started to turn. Instantly, she squeezed InuYasha’s hand. She did everything she could to try and stop the smell from getting to her. She jumped up from the table and headed for the bathroom, her mother followed. InuYasha was left at the table with Sota and the girl’s grandfather.

“What is going on?” The man asked. InuYasha kept his amber eyes on his plate.

“I-don’t...know”. He lied.

Kagome’s mother knelt down to hold Kagome’s hair while she let go of everything she ate that day. She looked at her mother and started crying.
“M-Mom, I, there is something, I, we-“ The poor girl couldn’t get her sentence out.

“What is it honey?” Her mother knew what it was. “Just calm down and talk to me.”

“Me and InuYasha....we’ve been” She looked away from her mother. “ I’m pregnant!” She blurted out. Kagome waited for her mother to call on the strength of the gods to keep her from killing her but the woman was very calm.

“I knew it, I knew you and him were-“ She didn’t want to finish the sentence. She took a long breath. “Kagome, how, I know how but, I mean well.....Have you looked at him? What about the child you are carrying?” She looked away from her daughter, she felt so cold for putting her words out there like. “What I meant to say was,-“

“I know what you meant, he was human when we .....” Her voice trailed off

“I take it he knows.”

“Yes, he knew for awhile, before I did. I was in denial.” Kagome still couldn’t look at her mother.

“I knew it, your mood swings, the change in appetite.” Her mother gently placed her hand on her daughter’s face, she was studying her. “Even your little face is fuller.”

She helped Kagome up from the floor and wiped her face, just like she did when Kagme was a little girl. “Well, you know you have to face your grandfather now”. She grabbed her mother’s hand, her eyes were full of fear and shame.

“I can’t, I can’t do it”. She was afraid.

“Now that is what you should have said to InuYasha!” Her mother finally snapped. Kagome’s eyes widened with fear. “Oh, honey I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that” She said in a whisper, embracing her daughter.

Kagome and her mother entered the dinning room, she was still holding onto her mother’s hand. The girl was shaking, InuYasha knew she told her mother, he knew her grandfather was next, still, he kept his eyes on his plate. Once Kagome spit the secret out, the old man went nuts, he tried to take InuYasha’s life, hurling everything but the kitchen sink at him. Her mother told him to leave, after a few days things should calm down. Kagome followed her grandfather around for days, trying to get him to say something to her. The only thing he told her was that she was an embarrassment to him, that he was glad his son wasn’t alive to see this going on.

*********************************************

The voice of the flight attendant, snapped Kagome out of her daze. Her mind was to rattled to eat anything but she did have a few glasses a wine. Kagome knew she shouldn’t drink, especially without eating anything, it didn’t stop her from drinking however. She looked at her purse and noticed the picture she carried with her was hanging out. She looked at the picture, it was her sonogram . ‘My baby boy’. She thought. As she leaned back in her seat, she smiled at the expression InuYasha had on his face when she showed him the sonogram. She knew he had no clue of what he was looking at. Kagome remembered how he damn near cried when she told him that they were going to have a boy. Her little brother Sota was the only one really happy about the situation. While he knew how hard things would be for his sister, he was always the one to look at situations in a positive light. She neatly placed the picture back in her purse as she reached for her small mirror. ‘My eyes are all puffy now’ she thought. She ran her fingers through her black hair, wondering if she should cut it when she gets to New York. Her eyelids were growing heavy, Kagome did not sleep well last night. She hasn’t slept well in quite some time however.

As slumber crept upon her, memories of that tragic day floated into her mind. A few months past since she broke the news to her family. Kagome insisted that she still went to school, hell it was her last year anyway. Noone but her best friend and a few teachers at her school knew of her pregnancy. She hid it well, although there were rumors, everybody knew there was something going on with her. A girl did ask Kagome about the rumors being true. Eri was right there. Before she could say anything, Eri threatened the girl’s life, she knew then not to get in Kagome’s business again.

An exhausted Kagome entered her room, she had just gotten out of school. She found InuYasha sleeping on her bed. She smiled when she saw he had the baby’s sonogram picture in his hand. Picking up on her scent, he opened his eyes.
“Hello.” She smiled as he reached for her book bag. “Grandpa know you’re here?” She asked nervously.

“Hell no.” He growled. “That man hates me, he’d send me straight to hell if he could.” He finished as he sat up.

“Well” Kagome answered as she pulled off her white sweatshirt. “At least he speaks to you.” Her voice was low, it broke her heart when her grandfather said the things he did to her. InuYasha wanted to confront him about it but she warned him not to. It would have only made things worse.

“Trust me, I could do without his greetings, okay.” He studied her as she walked about her room, straightening things up. He knew she was tired and needed to rest. Gently, he pulled at her arm.

Finally, she plopped down on her bed. Her hands instantly went to her stomach. Because of the situation, she never thought she would become so attached to the life developing in side of her. Her eyes closed at the feel of InuYasha’s hands rubbing her stomach.
“I’m so scared.” She whispered to him.

“I know.......me to.” He answered her. His hands still on her stomach.

“Grandpa, he won’t even look at me.” Her eyes were watery.

“Hey, hey.....he’ll come around. At least he doesn’t call you outta your name” He paused. “I’m now that damn dog-boy.” He gave her a smirk.

She replied with a laugh. “Aww, I’m so sorry.”

“Nah, its ok.....I ain’t gonna let you take all the blame for this. ‘Ya didn’t get this way by yourself you know.” He said, with one eyebrow raised. “I promise, he’ll come around.” His soft toned calmed her.

“You hear something crazy?” She asked while stretching. “I aced every exam I had this week.”

“Well damn ! We should have done this when you were failing geometry in the ninth grade” He joked while pulling off her shoes.

“Oh....ah-ha-ha, I see you got jokes.” She smiled, wiggling her toes. Those shoes were killing her feet.

Suddenly, Kagome’s face grew serious. Her insecurities of their situation began to pull at her.

“What’s wrong?”

“ Well, I- InuYasha, are we doing the right thing, keeping him?”

“Yeah, I think we are. Why should the innocent child you and me created die because we weren’t careful? He didn’t ask to come here.” He pointed out. Being brought up in the feudal era, abortion was unheard of. He was raised to take responsibility for his actions. Never could he understand why some men in her era could just mate with just anybody and NOT take care of their children.

“You’re right.....I’m just afraid, nervous.”

“I know, we’ll be okay”. He assured her while squeezing her hand. She pulled him to her, he leaned in and kissed her. Completely involved with the kissing, the two did not even see her mother standing in the doorway. Her mother took a short breath.

“Ah-ha...see that is how you two got into the mess you are in now!” She was slightly frowning, while she was understanding for the most part, every now and then, she found herself snapping at them.

“Mom!” Kagome shot her an evil look. She payed the girl no mind as she walked over towards InuYasha.

“Hmph, I did not know you were here. You might as well have a key.” Her arms were folded. His eyes dropped to the floor. He hasn’t looked her in the eyes since all this happened.

“Huh?” Thats all he could get out.

“I mean for years, you been sipping in and out of my daughter’s window, all hours of the day and night.” Clearly, she was annoyed.

“Oh, yeah......that.” He face was a almost the color of his kimono.

“Theres no need to blush now....you sure didn’t when you and my daughter were-“

“Mom!” A throughly pissed off Kagome, cut off her mother’s sentence. She knew were her mother was going with that remark.

“I’m sorry” She apologized. “ You must know how frustrated I am right now.....I wanted better-“
She did not finish her sentence. Noticing the young man wanted to hide under the bed, she placed her hand on his shoulder. Finally, he was able to look into her eyes.

“You are aware that there will soon be a little version of you here, right?”

“Yes, I found out last night.” He answered her with a sheepish tone in his voice.

“Hmm, well you better damn well be there for my grandson.” She paused, there it was, she finally said it ‘her grandson’. “I do not want to have to jump down that well and drag you back here by those ears of yours.” Before he could respond, she left.

A cold chilled ran up InuYasha’s spine. He looked at Kagome’s frowned up face, she was so pissed at her mother. “Now that was some scary shit!” He whispered, his face had a smirk, he wanted Kagome to laugh. She just looked at him.
“Sorry.” She was embarrassed.

“Its fine, this is hard for her to.” He paused. “You know, I think she blames herself.”

“Why?” Kagome was confused.

“Well, I mean she was young, only a year or two older then you when she had you.”

Kagome had to think about that remark for a moment and realized that she and InuYasha are not the only ones going through this situation.
“Yeah, I guess you have a point.” Her expression was sad. InuYasha kissed her, trying to give some kind of comfort. She yawned as she laid down on her bed, pulling on InuYasha. She wanted him to hold her, that always made her feel safe, secure no matter what was going on. His hand almost instantly went to her stomach.

As Kagome turned around to face InuYahsa, he looked into her eyes, noticing how she fought her much needed sleep. He knew she was tired and stressed out. She laughed as he blew softly into her eyes.
“What are you doing?” Her smile was warm.

“Tryin’ to make you go to sleep.”

She yawned once more.” I’m not sleepy.” Knowing she was. “You’ll be here when I wake up?”

“I ain’t going any where.” He said with a smile, followed by a yawn. She snuggled up close to him. He watched her sleep for a while, slumber soon took him as well. They slept soundly for a few hours. Kagome’s phone rang, InuYasha all but jumped out of his skin. He could not seem to get used to that strange thing with the loud, singing ring.
“Hello.” A weary InuYasha answered the phone.

“Hey Inu, whats up?” It was Sota.

“Ain’t nothin’, Kagome and I were asleep, whats good?”

“Listen, I’m sorry to bother you guys but its raining and I’m stuck.”

“Hold on.” He passed Kagome the phone.

“Sota.” She said as she yawned yet again. “Where are you?”

“I’m at TaDashi’s house.”

“Alright, okay. Let me but on my shoe, I’ll be there soon.”

“Hey, why can’t mom or InuYasha get me? I didn’t want to bother you.” He said, worrying about his sister.

“Mom went to pick up Gramps and its raining to hard, I don’t want InuYasha around out there.”
She pointed out while putting on her shoes. “Look, I’ll bring him with me so don’t worry ok?”

“Okay.” Sota and Kagome both hung up their phones.

While she was getting herself together, InuYasha put on one of the many hooded sweaters Kagome bought him. He threw on the RocaWear hat she gave him. She saw him checking himself in the mirror, just being silly. Kagome looked him up and down shaking her head.
“Okay, no more rap for you.” She laughed at him as he walked to her car. Just as she turned into TaDashi’s drive way, she saw Sota run out to the car. He was happy to see InuYasha with his sister.

“Okay, okay sis.” He started talking, didn’t bother with the seatbelt. “Is it a boy or girl?”

“We want it to be a surprise.” She teased.

“Oh, come on Kagome tell me....please!”

“It’s a boy.” She gave in.

Sota sat back with a mile wide grin. ‘A nephew....I’m going to have a nephew!’ He thought. Sota tapped InuYasha on the shoulder.
“Hey Inu, good looking out.”

“Yes, well, I try” He answered the kid with a smirk and a wink, Sota let out a laugh. Kagome paid no attention to their “male bonding” moment. It was raining so hard. She was focused o the road. Lightening had been flashing on and off. She noticed a few cars behind her swerving and decided to pull over. InuYasha stiffened, he quickly picked up on her fear as she hesitated on changing lanes.

“Want me to drive?” He cracked a smile.
Kagome smiled but did not take her eyes off the road. “ Nah, thats okay.” She made one attempt to teach him but he handled the car like a bat from hell.

The lightening continued to flash, the wind had picked up. Before Kagome was able to pull over, a massive truck spun wildly out of control. The truck had already managed to hit two cars already. She tried to back up....it was too late! Everything Happened so fast....the collision was so loud...so intense. The impact alone sent her car spinning right into a nearby telephone phone. Everyone involved was unconscious. All the windows were broken, steam rose from the engine The drivers side was blocked by the pole they crashed into. The ringing sounds of sirens and car horns, flooded InuYasha’s ears. He slowly opened his eyes, he felt his own blood pouring from a large cut on his cheek. Blood began to pour from yet another large cut on his forehead, he slightly flinched as he pulled some glass from the cut. His head was pounding.

InuYasha picked up the scent of death coming from the truck driver. He jumped up, fully aware of what just happened. He turned around to find Sota on the floor. He kicked open the passenger side door, gently picked Sota up and placed him on the ground. Although Sota had not lost any blood, he was bruised, some bones where broken as well. InuYasha quickly entered the car once more. The sight of a lifeless Kagome, slumped over the wheel made his eyes burn. Trying to remind calm, he took a deep breath. He was afraid to move her around to much, he slowly reclined her seat. Blood trickled down the right side of her face. Her lips were bleeding and swollen from hitting the stirring wheel so hard. Kagome was not breathing. Frantically, InuYasha searched for her pulse while calling her name.
“Kagome.......Kagome, wake up.” There was no reaction. He kept on trying to start her breathing, still she did not react. Tears of fear and frustration fell from his face, he called her once more.
“Kagome........baby, wake up......dammit....KA-GO-ME!”
