Chapter 5
Kagome set down the jewel shards on her desk. “Miroku, Shippo, you two can stay in the guest room. Sango, you’ll sleep in here.”
“Why don’t we all stay in one room? In case a demon attacks, intent on the jewel shards. With Inu Yasha staying with the miko, our best chance to protect the shards is to stay close together.”
Sango’s hand fell onto the hilt of her sheathed sword. “Out monk.”
“Okay, I’m going. Come on Shippo.”
The boys left and Kagome closed the door behind them, sighing in relief. She turned to the other girl. “Thanks Sango.”
“Anytime Kagome.”
Kagome smiled, turned to her desk and gasped, staring. “Do you sense anything?”
Kagome walked forward, picking up the glass jar. “It’s like they’re reacting to another jewel shard, but I don’t sense anything…”
---
Kai stopped at a red light and glanced in the back, making sure Evyn’s overnight bag was still there, then at Evyn. The boy was staring out the window, head in hand. Kai sighed, smiling. “I’m sorry if I’m bad company.”
Evyn turned, startled, and then smiled. “No, I’m just kind of curious about you.”
“About me? What about me?”
“I don’t know you that well. I mean, you’re almost a complete stranger to me.”
“I suppose so…Ask away then.”
“Well… Did you have anything planned for tonight?”
“Just watching tv, have dinner and sleep. Nothing important.”
“Oh.”
Kai laughed softly. “I’m glad you agreed to hang out.”
“Really? Why?”
Kai nearly jumped as he braked for another red light. He could feel Evyn’s breathe against his neck as the boy’s hand rested on his shoulder. He turned his head to see Evyn, now only inches away from him. “I, uhh… It’s nice to have someone to do stuff with…”
Evyn sat back, smirking, and Kai relaxed slightly. “Someone to do stuff with… So, where are we going?”
“The theatre…?”
“After driving around for an hour, that sounds like a good idea.”
When they reached the theatre, Kai watched Evyn looked around, smiling to himself. The boy enchanted him somehow. There was a part of him, which often scared him, that waned the boy. He hadn’t been scared that Evyn attracted him; he had openly admitted to being gay to himself two years ago. What scared him was the detail to which that part of his mind began premeditating what he’d do to the boy. He tried to ignore it, but Evyn’s body screamed ‘just fucking take me right here, right now’ at him for some reason. Or maybe that was just his imagination. Please let it be his imagination.
“Kai, are we going to watch something or what?”
Kai blinked and smiled, walking over to the younger boy. They bought the tickets and, after a few minutes, the pair walked into the half-filled theatre, choosing seats at the back. Kai felt a bit odd sitting next to Evyn. Not uncomfortable, just odd. As if they were supposed to be doing something else, which involved doing unmentionable thing to Evyn and he didn’t want to think about it. He was older than Evyn by 4 years, and the boy was still a child!
Kai kept glancing at Evyn throughout the film. The boy looked delicious while staring, entranced, at the screen. They stood as the credits rolled and Evyn turned to Kai, looking ever so innocent.
“What now?”
---
The lights flickered on, brightening the apartment. The place was fairly clean, with books and paper stacked haphazardly. He turned to Kai, smiling. “It’s cozy here.”
Kai returned the smile. “Do you want something to eat? I only have leftovers but—”
“Don’t worry so much Kai. I was expecting to be at the track field, remember?”
Kai shook his head, smiling. “Come on, let’s raid the fridge.”
---
InuYasha sat, staring as Kokoro and Seiyeru made out across from him. It was hard to believe that he and Koga would be anything more than rivals, and sometimes friends. They had spent a good deal of time talking when Kagome wasn’t around, and it was getting to the point that they were actually seeking each other out...But lovers? Egh. And so openly too. Didn’t he…they have any sense of decency?
Kyoko’s sudden sigh pulled him out of his reverie. “What?”
She smirked. “Don’t worry about things too much Inu-chan. Koga’s the one who makes the first move.”
“...Did you just call me Inu-chan?”
“What, you don’t like it?”
Kokoro pulled away from ministering his lover’s body. “Don’t bother arguing with her, it’s next to impossible to win, she’s too stubborn.”
“Right.”
Seiyeru sat up, pressing himself against as much of Kokoro’s body as he could. “Kyo-chan, where’s that sprite of yours, Damien? Shouldn’t he be here too, all things considered?”
“Well, he’s looking after Hikaru and Kaine. Kaine took Evyn’s leaving pretty bad.”
“What’d he do?”
Kyo-chan made a face. “He pulled Evyn out of school for a frigging week and they spent the entire time in the bedroom.”
“Really?”
“No Sei, he isn’t telling what happened to anyone.”
“What’s a...sprite?”
Kyoko blinked, turning to InuYasha and then sighed. “A sprite is a sex-addicted psycho who’ll drive you insane till the end of time.”
“Huh?”
“They’re a race of creatures, human in appearance. The only things that sets them apart from humans are their pupil less eyes, their sex-addiction and the fact that they’re all missing a piece of their soul.”
“A piece of their… What the hell are you talking about?!”
“Each sprite is born with an incomplete soul. They’re constantly searching for the one person who can complete their soul, and that person is the one to whom they are irrecoverably bound. It’s where the term ‘soul mate’ originally arose. It was to prevent them from having sex with anyone and anything they could.
“Evyn… Evyn is a special case, even within sprites. His human side and sprite side haven’t mixed together properly so he doesn’t have the silver, pupilless eyes. And his human side acts as a compliment for his sprite side, completing his soul. That makes him uncontrollable. I worry about what his sprite side may do.”
---
“Ka~i, I wanna watch a movie.”
“Another one?” Evyn nodded, a light flush was spread across his cheeks. Kai smiled, shaking his head. “Go on and choose one. I’ll be with you in a minute.”
“Kay!” The boy grinned and disappeared into the rec room. Kai listened to the boy’s murmurs about certain movies as he cleaned the kitchen. He walked into the room just as Evyn pushed a movie into the VCR.
“Found something?”
Evyn nodded, sitting down on the couch beside Kai. He snuggled into Kai’s side, arms resting around the older boy’s waist. “So warm…”
Kai stared down at the boy, startled. “Comfortable?”
“Mmm…Yes…”
“You do know that the tape isn’t playing.”
“Mmm…”
“Evyn, are you okay?”
“Mmhmm…”
“Do you want me to play the tape?”
“Just so long as you don’t move too much. You’re my pillow…”
“I noticed.” As the tape began playing, Kai stared down at the boy, a hand running through the blonde hair. About an hour into the movie Evyn was falling asleep on Kai’s arm.
“::5 more minute Kaine…::”
“Evyn? Evyn, wake up!”
“::Nnn…don’t wanna.::” Evyn pushed himself up to look at Kai. “Wuz wrong?”
“You need to change and go to bed. Come on.” He sighed when the boy didn’t budge. “Move or I’ll take you home.”
“Aww, you’re no fun…” Evyn pushed himself up and allowed Kai to lead him to the bedroom, where a single bed and his overnight bag waited.
“You can sleep in here. The bathroom’s at the end of the hall, to the right.”
Evyn covered a yawn. “Where are you going to sleep Kai?”
The older boy shrugged. “The couch, probably.”
“What?! Kai, the bed’s large enough for two people. You can sleep here.”
“I…” Very bad. He couldn’t resist Evyn’s pleading face but he might not be able to resist his urges if they were to sleep in the same room, the same bed.
“Come on Kai, it’ll be fine. I don’t mind.”
“But…” Kai shrugged, sighing. There really wasn’t any point to argue. One could only hope that he could resist his urges. “Sure, why not?”
Evyn giggled. “Exactly.”
Both boys changed at opposite ends of the room. Kai stole a glance at the younger boy as he stowed his clothes away and frowned. “Evyn, what’s that on your back?”
Evyn turned his head, boxers already on and a shirt in hand. “Wha~? Oh, that. It’s a tattoo. Why?”
“You’re 14 and you have a tattoo.”
“Well yeah. I can push down my boxers if you want a better view.”
“No, that’s okay. Does your mother know?”
Evyn looked amazed at the question. “Of course she knows. Why wouldn’t she?”
Kai crossed the room and touched Evyn’s lower back, where the tattoo was. It was a spider, designed to look like a burn mark. Kai frowned, tracing over the skin. Smooth and soft, the body had yet to shed his baby fat it seemed.
“Kai? Kai!!”
“Hmm? Oh, put your shirt on and let’s hit the sack.”
Evyn frowned as Kai turned away. “Yeah, sure...”
---
“Kagome, is something wrong?”
Kagome blinked, turning to Sango. “I thought I heard something.”
“It was probably just the wind.”
“I...No, it wasn’t. It was a woman’s voice.”
Sango stood up, reaching for hyraikos. “Do you think it’s a demon?”
-Calm down demon slayer. I am not here to do battle with you.-
“What-? Who’s there!?”
The door swung open and Miroku ran in. Sango grabbed the mink by the collar. “Sango! Kagome!”
“Miroku, what are you doing at the door?”
Shippo wandered in, yawning. “Miroku sensed something and he dragged me out of bed to investigate.”
“Why is it that I doubt that?”
-Peace demon slayer, the monk meant no harm.-
Sango turned, startled towards the voice. She, as well as the others’ eyes widened, staring. A young woman sat, perched on Kagome’s desk. She wore a kimono, her aura visible even to Souta, had he been there. However, she had no physical presence. What they saw was an apparition.
“Who are you? What do you want?!”
