Confessions
Ok, everyone...I know it's been awhile since I've last updated but work, college, life...lol. I can't wait until the summer. Anyway, this story has been rolling around in my head the whole time and I have been dying to write some of it down...so here goes. I hope you all enjoy this new chapter.
Chapter 5:Confessions
Rin stood at the foot of her bed looking over the three kimonos she had narrowed down out of the twelve. They were all so beautiful that it took her over ten minutes to narrow it down to just the three. "This is impossible!", she said aloud. After another five minuets she finally decided on the dark blue satin kimono with the assorted flower pattern and dragon print, lined with sliver threading. It was simply breath taking. She slipped on the matching sandals and then proceeded to her vanity mirror to fix her hair. She brought half of it up in a small bun and secured it with a few pins that Sesshomaru had gotten for her a few months before. When she was finished, she stood for a minute Rin stood at the foot of her bed looking over the three kimonos she had narrowed it down to out of the twelve. They were all so beautiful that it took her over ten minutes to narrow it down to just the three. "This is impossible!” she said aloud. After another five minutes she finally decided on the dark blue, satin kimono with the assorted flower pattern and dragon print, lined with silver threading. It was simply breathtaking. She slipped on the matching sandals and then proceeded to her vanity mirror to fix her hair. She brought half of it up in a small bun and secured it with a few pins that Sesshoumaru had gotten for her a few months before. When she was finished, she stood for a minute, looking herself over one last time. The kimono was a perfect fit. It showed off all the right curves of her body, which surprised her. 'Did he mean for it to look this way?' It was no matter. Even if this was not his intention, she enjoyed it all the same. She couldn't remember a time when she had fixed herself up this nice. She then grabbed a small bottle of perfume from her vanity and dabbed a few drops on her neck below her ears and on her wrists. She loved this fragrance because it somehow, reminded her of her mother. She sighed as she realized that she had been getting ready for far too long. No doubt, her Lord would be frustrated with her late arrival. Even though he didn't eat with her and Jaken, he still expected that she be on time. She never knew why he chose to sit at the table with them as they ate, but she never complained. She loved his company, even though he rarely talked. It didn't matter. Just his presence was enough to satisfy her.
She left her quarters and proceeded down the hall. She descended the stair case, crossed the foyer and entered the dining room on the right. Sesshoumaru sat at the head of the large table, and Jaken at the other end, as usual. She stood in the doorway for only a second, but then quickly made her way to her usual seat at the left side of the table.
"Please forgive me for my tardiness, my Lord. I'm very sorry."
Just a split second before Rin had reached her seat, Sesshoumaru had walked over and pulled her chair out for her. She looked up at his face, but it was as blank as usual. Without saying a word, Rin took her seat, and Sesshoumaru proceeded to push it in for her. 'Yes, my Lord is acting very strangely today,' she confirmed.
Once she was seated, Jaken rose and proceeded to the kitchen to fetch their meal. There were only two servants, being human women about middle age, they had both retired for the evening. They mostly did the cleaning and laundry, since Jaken was the one who liked to do the cooking, though he would never openly admit it. Rin smirked as she thought of this. Jaken had always been a very good cook, and she sometimes wondered how he had acquired the skill. His mother maybe? She made a mental note to ask him about it at a later time. The fight that was sure to come, due to her inquiry, widened her smile from ear to ear. She loved arguing with they imp. In fact, it had become one of her favorite pastimes over the years.
Sesshoumaru chanced a glance toward Rin, just in time so see the devilish grin that dawned on her face.
"Rin?” he questioned.
She was quickly snapped out of her thoughts by the sound of her master’s voice. She gazed at him with a look of questioning. At that moment, Jaken came back into the dining room though the large double doors that separated it from the kitchen area. Sesshoumaru glanced back toward Rin, who now held a smile of joy at the arrival of the much awaited meal. He still questioned what her previous expression was for, but decided not to press the matter further. Though, he knew it would haunt him all evening.
As Jaken reached the table, he quickly sat down the dishes he had skillfully been balancing in his small hands. He handed Rin her plate and then resumed his seat at the end of the table and proceeded to enjoy his meal. They sat there in silence as Rin and Jaken ate. When he had finished, Jaken rose.
"May I be excused, Lord Sesshoumaru? I'm very tired and I would like to retire if you no longer require my services this evening."
"Yes, Jaken, I will see you in the ‘morrow."
"Very well, Mi Lord."
"Thank you for the food Jaken! Ii was exceptionally good this evening," Rin complimented.
He muttered something she couldn't understand under his breath, but she took is as a "your welcome" all the same. With that, he waddled out of the dining area and toward his quarters.
Rin had not yet finished her dinner but suddenly, she didn't have much of an appetite left. All that she was aware of now was the fact that she was alone with Sesshoumaru. Yes, she has been alone with him several times in her life, so this was nothing new. But during the past few years, she found herself with an odd feeling when it was just the two of them. It was like she was nervous and didn't know what to say. Sometimes her heart would beat fast and her hands would sweat like they were doing now.
'Damn it! Why am I like this? It's just Sesshoumaru-sama. Why do I keep feeling this way!? I have to calm myself down or he will know!'
"Rin, why is your heart beating so rapidly? Is there something wrong?”
.....too late.
'Damn those ears, eyes, and that nose!’ her mind screamed.
"No Sesshoumaru-sama. I'm fine." She tried to turn away as the blood rushed to her face, turning it a slight shade of pink.
Sesshoumaru had heard this beating of her heart and smelled the nervous sweat before. Sometimes he would ask her about it, but she would always give the same response. He was beginning to bother him a bit, so he called her on it.
"Rin, I have noticed your bodying reacting this way before when we are alone. What's the problem? Do I frighten you?"
She couldn't believe it! He was actually asking her about this? Her heart began to beat even faster as she knew he wouldn't give up until she told him the entire truth about her odd behavior.
"No Sesshoumaru-sama. I'm not frightened of you at all."
"Have you become ill? If you have, I haven't sensed it at all."
He knew it wasn't illness. In fact, he thought he had a pretty good idea of what it was. He just wanted to hear it from her lips.
"Must we really talk about this?" Her embarrassment level was sky high now. She couldn't bring herself to look him straight in the face.
"Rin?"
"Please my Lord, it's just so embarrassing."
He raised a quizzical eyebrow at her. With that she broke down. He wanted the truth; she was going give him the truth. He had asked for it and there was no turning back now! She stood up from her chair and stomped her right foot firmly on the floor.
"Kami! Can't I have a secret around here!? Can't I just keep some things to myself!? NO! The Great Lord Sesshoumaru of the Western Lands demands that there be no secrets, no matter what the cost! Well, my great and most powerful Lord, the reason why my body reacts the way it does around you when we are alone is because I find you very physically attractive! I mean come on; you are literally perfect in every single way! And for your information, in case you haven't noticed, I am a woman now!" She slowly began to soften her voice. "I'm not a little child anymore. I do notice things and I'm not as dumb as I may appear to you. I can't help the way I feel, because Kami knows that if I could, things would be a lot different! Sometimes, I just wish that I could make things simple like they used to be, when all that made me happy was picking flowers, running in the fields, and simply being with you and nothing more. But I can't! Every thing is all complicated now. Those things still make me happy, but only to a certain extent. As I've grown older I find that I need more....."
She wanted so desperately to go on. She wanted to tell him that simply being with him wasn't all she desired anymore. That all she could think about at times was how much she wanted to touch him, run her fingers through his hair, hold him and.... and kiss him. But she couldn't. The words just refused to leave her mouth. She just stood fast with a look of complete horror on her face at the realization of what she had just confessed so far.
