Chapter 6
“What have you done to Sesshoumaru-sama?!” Jaken yelled at Kaida, hitting her with the staff. She had somehow carried him into his chambers, and she wow dow dressing him.
“Get away from him!! Get away from him!!” Jaken shouted again and again at her.
“I haven’t done anything to him Jaken! And if you would open your eyes you’d realize he has a new arm…”Kaida sad pulling the last cover on Sesshoumaru and wanting to distract Jaken so he would stop hitting her with that damn staff.
“Is Sesshoumaru-sama going to be ok?” Rin asked behind Kaida. She was so tired she hadn’t heard the little girl come in.
“Yes, he is. He just needs to rest tonight. Come on Rin, you need to go to sleep too.” She grabbed Rin’s hand and walked out of the room, leaving Jaken to watch over his master. She tucked Rin into her own bed, told her a bedtime story and kissed her on the forehead before leaving. Kaida closed the door to the little girl’s room and sighed. It seemed just like yesterday she was doing this.
Halfway down to her room Kaida thought it best to sleep in Sesshoumaru’s room that night. Just in case he needed something. Water, someone to fluff his pillow…or even…Kaida’s cheeked blushed at the very thought of it…’wouldn’t that just make my day?!’ Kaida thought to herself. She opened to door to his room and saw him lying up against one of the walls to the room. Jaken was nowhere to be found.
“If you need something my servants will acquire it for you.”
“No, I’m fine thank you. I actually came to see how you were doing.”
She came over and stood beside him.
“May I have the honor of sitting by you, my lord?” she said good-naturedly.
Sesshoumaru, not having the strength to do anything, simply nodded. Kaida slumped down on the floor and she stared him for a while before she said anything.
“So….how’s that new arm doing? The bone has probably not hardened yet but just keep warm….here let me help you.” She grabbed one of the blankets that was beside him and wrapped it around his arm. ‘Was I talking about his arm or another thing…damn..I’m like a giddy school girl around him’
Sesshoumaru once again nodded and went back to stare outside the window.
“Explain to me how you said I was going to pick up the Tetsusaiga.” He said abruptly after awhile. Kaida had her head in her hands and she looked up with her eyes first at Sesshoumaru.
“Well,” she said lifting her head, “It was shortly after you killed Inuyasha.”
He looked over at her.
“Well you did.” She said trying to be convincing.
“You are not making any sense.”
“I haven’t finished what I was saying that’s why. You’re always so impatient.” She said with a smile.
‘What is it with her? He could smell how comfortable she was around him and how talking to him was second nature to her. And that smile, it somehow made the pain in his arm almost bearable…
“I come from a twherwhere you and I are an… “item”… we meet up with Inuyasha, shortly after his woman died, and that’s when you killed him. Rin picked up the Tetsusaiga and neither of us could touch it for a long time. Then one day, Jaken let Rin wander off and she got into a deep mess with a shape-shifting youkai. Neither of our swords worked, and youkai was about to kill Rin and that’s when the Tetsusaiga came flying into your hands. After that it let either of us handle it.”
He simply stared at her. Did she actually believe held bld believe her? He could smell that she wasn’t lying; he could also smell ‘her.’ “She smells like the first rains of spring…”
“So, Rin makes it possible then.” Kaida swore she heard some sarcasm in voice. The room became quite again for some time. It was broken by a painful gasp as Sesshoumaru grabbed his arm.
“You know, it helped when I massaged it last time.”
“So you re-grew my arm in the future too?”
“Yes I did,” she said getting closer, “but last time we did it in the room. It took us days to clean it and we ended up sleeping in the guest room for a week.” She said chuckling at the memory. She took the blanket off and started massaging the arm. She could hear Sesshoumaru gasp but not out of pain, but of relief. He suddenly asked her a question she was totally unprepared for.
“Why did you stop me from mating with you?”
Kaida stopped massaging as he heart skipped a beat. What was she supposed to say?
“uummm…” Kaida felt Sesshoumaru’s arm move as in saying, ‘keep massaging’ and she did… “Well, because like I said, it wasn’t right.”
Sesshoumaru could hear her heart thumping faster than usual, and he could smell that she got nervous.
“You’re lying to me.”
“Dammit. I hate it when he knows!”
“Because Sesshoumaru, I’m selfish that’s why.”
“How so?” he said with his ‘I really don’t care but tell me anyway’ voice.
She blushed, she didn’t really want to tell him this, but she couldn’t keep anything hidden from him, he’d know right away.
“For the reason that I wanted you to mmmfffmmmyourss.” She had intentionally mumbled that last part. Sesshoumaru looked at her for the first time since she had entered the room.
*ssiiiigghhh* “what gorgeous eyes he has”
“Do I have to repeat the question?”
“Because…” Kaida stopped rubbing his arm and looked down, “I wanted you to mark me as yours. That’s why.”
Sesshoumaru’s golden eyes widened. He had never thought about having a mate. Hell, he never thought he would care for somebody as much to choose one. ‘she is attractive though…’ He had decided a long time ago that he wasn’t ever going to do that because of the openness that would leave him and her to attacks. Being pared with someone meant you made a telepathic bond with them. Knowing when they were in trouble, when they were happy, sad…
“Did I mark you as mine in your future female youkai?” He said trying to hold his curiosity.
“Yes you did, and it hurt like a bitch.” She said with a sad chuckle.
“Then how do you expect me to believe you when you are sitting in front of me?”
“Huh?” was all she had to say to his remark…was he really all that curious about her?
“If we were mates I would have told you what kind of bond I marking you would have done to us. That is an ancient law of our kind. Once we choose somebody it’s for life we don’t go around…”
“I know Sesshoumaru. You explained it all to me once before! It’s a life bond! You live, I live, you die I die! I KNOW!” She didn’t mean to yell at him but memories from that night started to flood her mind.
“It hurt Sesshoumaru,” she said to herself more than to her, “when the bond between us was broken it felt like somebody was pulling my very heart from right inside of me. The marks that I had gained from you…the lines on my face, the moon, my arms, and the scar where you bit me…all burned away.” She said touching where they once had been. “The only thing that didn’t fade away the streaks of silver in my hair, my eyes, and my love for you.” She finished with tears in her eyes.
Sesshoumaru was genuinely puzzled. What was he sued ted to do? She was crying and for once in his life, Sesshoumaru-sama didn’t know what to do…
The room was silent again and Kaida went back to massaging Sesshoumaru’s arm. This went on for a while, first Kaida used both hands, then one, then the other then two again. He suddenly felt her stop and he moved his arm just like before telling her to keep going. He did this a couple of times before turning around. He said Kaida sleeping upright.
“What am I going to do now?” Sesshoumaru asked himself. He wrapped his tail around her and gently laid her down on his futon.
“Arigatou...” she said sleepily. (thank you)
“Get away from him!! Get away from him!!” Jaken shouted again and again at her.
