Chapter Five.

“I believe the wind tunnel is closed because he is dead. Naraku is no more,” spoke Miroku, as he looked at his right hand and then to Inuyasha. “Kikyou’s death and yours’ has been avenged,”

Inuyasha turned towards Kikyou and walked over to her. He took hold of her hands and spoke, “Now we can marry and be happy, my dearest Kikyou. You were never far from my mind or my heart,”

Kikyou looked into his face and smiled as she collapsed into his arms.

Kagome looked dejectedly at the ground; she knew it was now a lost cause. Inuyasha would never really love her like he does Kikyou. She turned towards the path that they took to get there and started to walk back to the huts. Kagome passed Kaede as she was coming up the path.

“Kagome, did it work?” asked Kaede.

“It did and we won, Kaede,” replied Kagome, as she went on down the path towards the village.

“Kagome…where are you going?” asked Kaede, watching her as she walked down the path.

“To the hut,” was the only reply Kaede got from the retreating form of Kagome.

Kaede watched as she vanished before glancing behind her to see Miroku, Shippou, and Sango standing there looking sad for Kagome.

The three friends turned towards Inuyasha and Kikyou still hugging each other. They shook their heads and started to follow Kagome down the path to the village and to Kaede’s hut.
