Chapter 5: Kikyo's Return and Yasha's Answer
The day started normally. Yasha ran off to play in a nearby meadow and Inuyasha set to clean the house before lunch. "Who knew a three-year-old could make such a damn mess?" he grumbled picking up everything he could find and either trashing it or (if it was hers) putting it in her room. "It's time I taught that girl how to clean up after herself if she can train as hard as she does," he said sternly. Just then, someone knocked on the door.
"Who the hell could that be?" he asked and opened the door to see Kikyo standing there. His eyes narrowed suddenly, but he struggled not to show his annoyance. "Hello, Inuyasha," she said. "May I come in?" "Sure," he said as he moved from the door to allow her entrance. "Inuyasha, aren't you too old to play with toys?" she chuckled seeing Inuyasha held a teddy bear in his arms. "It's not mine," he said seriously. "I was cleaning the house." She studied him for a moment. "You've changed," she noticed. "What has happened?" There was no way he wanted to tell her about Yasha, but he knew he had to.
"Sit down, Kikyo," he said seriously tossing the teddy bear in Yasha's room and grabbing a chair. "There's something you should know." She did as he told her and he sighed. "Remember that one night stand you gave me?" he asked. "Need I be reminded?" she asked. "You should be reminded because I wasn't the only person you left that night," he said sternly. "My family had a curse that I forgot of. If I lose my virginity, I get pregnant. I did and I gave birth to a girl. She's your daughter too."
Kikyo frowned deeply. "You never came to me," she said seriously. "You left us, Kikyo," he said. "I didn't want Yasha to be crushed when she found out what her mother did to her. I was looking over her and protecting her. You ignored this family and had some nerve to come back three years later. Yasha's three years old now. I'm damn glad she looks like me and not you because it would be a solid shame."
Kikyo was in shock. She was a mother and he was denying her to meet her daughter for the first time. But she knew she deserved it. Just then, the door flung open and a little hanyou child ran into Inuyasha's arms shaking with fear. He lifted Yasha in his lap and looked at her. "What's wrong?" he asked. "There was this big bug out there and it scared me," she said seriously. Yasha had a fear of insects except for butterflies. He chuckled and hugged her. "That mean old bug won't get you in here," he said seriously. "Not only that, I was hungry," she admitted causing him to laugh. "Lunch will be ready soon, baby," he said. Her eyes dartedKikyKikyo and frowned. "Papa, who's that?" she asked. "That's, uh, an old friend of mine," he said lowering her to the floor so he could get lunch worked on.
Yasha studied Kikyo and walked to her. "What's your name?" she asked. "Kikyo," the priestess answered. "What's yours?" "Yasha," Yasha answered flatly. She gave that tone to any stranger. Inuyasha was trying to keep her from doing that, but she kept on. "You're a priestess, ain't you?" "How did you know?" Kikyo asked. "Your clothes," Yasha said. "Papa said my mom was a priestess, but she left us a long time ago."
"Yasha, go wash up for lunch and leave Kikyo alone," Inuyasha said suddenly. "Yes sir," she said running off. "At least I taught her some manners," he muttered while waiting for her. Yasha returned and he lifted her in her seat at the table handing her a plate of food. "Stay here and eat," he said as he looked at Kikyo jerking his head toward the door. "It was nice to meet you, Yasha," she said. Yasha nodded. "Same here, Kikyo," she said as the two left.
Inuyasha led Kikyo out of hearing distance and looked at her. "You never told her who I was," she said frowning. "Hell, Kikyo," he said sternly. "You never knew her either." She sighed heavily. "I cannot return, but she is to know," she said. "Yasha's very beautiful and very loving to all. I can't risk her happiness like this." He studied her. "That might be wise until she gets older," he said. "Then we'll come together and talk to her as her parents." "I agree," she said smiling. "Don't cut me all the way out of her life. I want to be her mother, but I just found out and need time to prepare."
"I understand," Inuyasha whispered as she left. he walked inside the hut to find Yasha playing with some peas instead of eating them. "This time, I won't make you eat them," he sighed. "What's wrong?" she asked. "Nothing, baby," he said lying down on his bed. She slid down and walked to him climbing on his chest. "Papa, that woman that was in here was my mother," she said. He nodded. "You didn't have to tell me," she said gazing at him. "Yash, do you want her in your life or what?" he asked.
Yasha was quiet for a moment as she studied her father. "Can you be honest with me?" he asked. "I'm happy right now just you and me," she said cuddling up with him. "You were there for me when she wasn't. I don't want her in my life." He touched her cheek gently and smiled. "I think that's the best decision you've made," he said seriously. "You can't force someone to be in your life no matter how much you try. If your mother doesn't want to be with us, that's her decision. But you know something?" She shook head. ad. "I'm happy just having my little girl with me," he said tickling her causing her to laugh hard. He chuckled and lifted her in his arms. "I love you so much," he whispered. "You've brought me so much happiness."
She grinned and hugged him. "I love you too, Papa," she said and gave him a kiss on the lips. "You're not planning on anymore kids, are you?" He laughed hard then. "No, honey," he said. "You'll be my only child unless I get a girlfriend. But you're too young to know of that right now." "How old do I have to be?" she asked. "A teenager," he said seriously. She stared at him in shock. "But I'll be too old then!" she protested. "I'll be an old woman then." He chuckled shaking his head. "I had you when I was a teenager," he said. "But you ain't old, are you?" she asked. "I'm twenty years old," he said. She frowned. "I can't count that high," she said.
"Soon, baby, soon," he said. They lay down together on his bed and soon fell asleep together. Kikyo's return wasn't the only thing that would happen. Two weeks after this, Inuyasha and Yasha would soon realize how much their world would change in a matter of seconds...
