Chapter Five
Chapter Five - This is.. my home?
Kagome opened her eyes slowly. A quick glance revealed that she was alone. More over, she was alone and in a magnificent room. She was lying in a four-poster canopy bed. The curtains around it were pure white, the sheets and covers a deep shade of red that was almost mahogany. The curtains on her right were parted and she could see a large spacious room. It was cozy, and absolutely beautiful. She sat up and slid out of bed. She noticed that Inuyasha’s outer kimono was gone from her body; someone had exchanged it for a soft silk sleeping gown. She walked around the room, allowing her fingers to trail over the furniture. She wasn’t very good with different styles of wood, but if she had to guess she would have said the furniture was cherry wood.
A thick, h whh white carpet covered the floor. Kagome wiggled her toes against the softness, a slight smile playing on her lips. The left side of the room was covered with windows and sun streamed in, warming the room. Kagome wondered where they were. She hadn’t actually asked where they would be going. She could have slapped herself for her stupidity.
She walked over to what looked to be a dresser and opened the doors, a gasp of shock escaping. The kimonos inside were beautiful. Her fingers traced them nervously. Were these for her? Could they possibly be? Surely not, though. She hardly knew either of these men, though soon Inuyasha would be her mate and Sesshoumaru her brother. She withdrew her hand. There was no way they would give a stranger these types of clothes.
A deep voice behind her made her jump. Sesshoumaru now stood in the doorway of her room. “Go ahead and pick one. They won’t bite. My brother may be an idiot at times, but he does know how to treat his betrothed.”
Kagome’s eyes were as round as saucers as she turned back to the wardrobe. “Th – then these are for me?”
“Of course!” Piped up a new voice and a small head poked around Sesshoumaru’s legs. The little girl was absolutely adorable. She had long brown hair, and warm chocolaty eyes. Freckles dotted her nose and cheeks. “Whom else would they be for?” She noticed the way the lady blushed and switched her attention to Sesshoumaru. “New lady is shy, Sesshoumaru-sama?”
Sesshoumaru arched his eyebrows at the small frame looking up at him. “Yes, Rin.” He reached behind him and pulled the girl the rest of the way into the room, pushing her slightly in front of him and towards Kagome. “Rin, this is Kagome-chan. Kagome, this is Rin. She is my ward.”
“Um, Sesshoumaru-sama,” she kept her eyes on the floor, “where am I, and how exactly did we get here through the well?”
Sesshoumaru looked at her sharply. “Did your father never tell you of the well?”
She seemed to blanch at the mention of her father. “I don’t really remember much of what my father told me.”
He scowled. Inuyasha need to be here. He needed to be taking care of this girl. Helping her get through this and understand. “The well is like a link. It is a sacred place, and your father used it often to come visit. You know of course that your father was a demon.” She nodded. “Well, I grew up with him many long years ago. As time passed and I saw what was going on in the world I put special wards around my home so that time would not affect it. I can bring modern things into my home, but no one else can. That is why you have this carpeting under your feet. Time is able to keep passing on outside, but it does not affect my home. It’s almost like traveling from the future to the past to come here. That’s what the well at your families shrine does.”
“Oh,” was her response, causing Rin to giggle. “Will I be able to go back and see my family?”
“That is up to Inuyasha, though I doubt he will have a reason to keep you away. For the time being though I think it best if you stay away, at least until Yukio calms down.”
Kagome frowned slightly as Sesshoumaru left the room and beckoned her to follow. “Sesshoumaru-sama, where is Inuyasha?” She asked from behind him.
“He had some business to take care today.” The lie rolled easily from his tongue. He would not hurt this girl by telling her the truth of the baka hanyou’s idiocy. She had had no other choice in this, just as his brother had. It was the only way her family had been able to get her out of the situation.
Kagome spent the day following Sesshoumaru as he guided her around the castle, showing her where everything was and introducing her to the servants. It was late in the afternoon when his servant Jakken appeared and said his master’s presence was required. Kagome had stayed out with Rin, playing in the gardens.
Sesshoumaru stood on the balcony of his study watching the two girls. No, the one girl and young woman, he corrected himself. Inuyasha stood behind him growling. Kikyo’s stench clung to him.
“You have to stop assorting yourself with that witch, Inuyasha. You are betrothed now. If this fratenization continues – ”
Inuyasha’s furious growl cut him off. “I love Kikyo! You can’t be serious about this whole thing! I can not and I will not take Kagome as my mate!” A staff came flying out of nowhere and hit him upside the head, causing a large lump on the back of his head. He whirled furiously only to stop in his tracks. A young monk stood in front of him. His brownish black hair was slightly long, held back by a piece of red twine. Green eyes looked at Inuyasha with raised brows. “What are you doing here, Miroku?”
