CHAPTER 46: OUTSIDE THE DOOR
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
She blinked her sleepy blue-gray eyes to greet the morning sun shine that hit her square in the face. Kagome awoke to an empty bed, but there was evidence that someone had been sleeping there. The impression of a body could still be seen in the mattress. Also, the fact that there was still the lingering warmth of left over in that spot. Plus the fact, that once again, Kagome didn’t remember taking her clothes off and yet there they were lying in heaped on the floor. ‘Sesshoumaru!!!’ Kagome thought suspiciously, ‘he did it again. Why can’t that demon leave my clothes on?’
She slipped out of bed and looked at the alarm clock on the side tables. Kagome realized that it was nearly six in the evening and it wasn’t morning like she had originally thought. ‘Come on Kags, can’t spend the entire day in bed,’ said that small still voice. ‘Well, I wouldn’t, if some fiancée of mine didn’t keep me up all night.
‘No Kags, not fiancée, husband.’ That’s when it hit her. ‘Oh man! I slept through my wedding night!!!!’ Kagome was very…well…stupidified. ‘How could you sleep through your wedding night? Could you even sleep through something like that?’
As Kagome took one small step away from the bed the bedroom started to spiral and shift becoming distorted to her vision. She fell to the floor and shut her eyes trying to make the spinning stop. ‘What is going on? Why do I fill so dizzy?’ Once it subsided, Kagome reached over for Sesshoumaru dress shirt and pulled it on her shaky body. Kagome began to listen with strained ears for any sign of life in the house. The palace was a little too quiet if you asked her.
“Where is everyone?” Kagome muttered. She button up the white long sleeved dress shirt and walk out of the bedroom.
What met her outside those doors was something she wished she had never seen in her life. Blood! It was every where. Kagome brought her hand over her mouth in horror at the sight. Her nose was hit with the disgusting scent of death. Kagome felt bile rise up in her throat and tried to fight it down. She saw the bodies of the servants lining the ground in a massive pool of blood. A blood curdling scream erupted in the morning dusk of the estate.
“Sesshoumaru!!! Rin!” Kagome whispered in hoarse fear. “Sesshoumaru!!! RIN! I’m coming! Hold on.” Shouted Kagome as she tore through the hallway trying to avoid the lifeless bodies littering the floor surrounding the area. Kagome heard a frightened scream as she came closer to Rin’s bedroom door. She threw caution in the wind, Rin was in danger. Her hand went of the door handle and turned the knob.
“Damnit it!” The door was locked barring her entrance. Kagome beat on the door with her hands made into tightly clenched fists. *Bang! Bang! Bang!*
“Rin! Honey, open the door!” Then complete silence. Nothing, no more screaming. Kagome decided to bust the door down. She moved away from the door and ran full steam thinking to charge it. Kagome readied herself for the impact of the hard wooden door on her shoulder. Impact on three, two, one… Then Rin’s bedroom door came flying opened and Kagome went hurtling through only to have the Persian rug caught her foot and sent her down to the floor.
*Thump*
“Ouff!” She groaned as her head struck the floor, however; she pushed off the floor with lightening like speed and whirled around the room looking for Rin. There was no sight of her cherub. “Rin, honey, say something. Mama’s here!” *Silence*
But then there was that sweet voice ringing out in the night. “Mama, I’m down here. Please help me. They are trying to hurt Rin.” She cried in a fearful tone.
Once again filled with desperation and adrenal Kagome made her way out of Rin’s room and went to ‘protect and defend,’ her family.
Down stairs in the study, Sesshoumaru was talking on the phone to the head of security for his company. “I want him followed. I want to know where he goes, who he is with, when he takes a piss, and when he is doing it?….” Sesshoumaru command in a menacing tone that suggested he didn’t want any second guessing his thoughts on the matter.
“Yes sir. But, what about your daughter and assistant Jaken? Who will be there to protect them incase anything happens?”
“They will be sent to the States for a brief period. I don’t want Rin caught in the middle of this until it is over. Jaken will protect her with his life. Or, else.” Sesshoumaru stated with cold assurance.
“Mr. Masurau, sir, what about the situation with your younger brother?” Asked Samou, in a slightly unsure voice.
Sesshoumaru growled.
“I meant your half brother?” The head of security corrected.
“Keep an eye on him and his bitch. Naraku might try to pull something, and put them in jeopardy. I want a report faxed to me by the end of the night.”
“Yes sir.”
Sesshoumaru hung up the phone and closed his eyes trying to ignore the head ache building in his frontal lobe. He had been in the study since four in the morning. Plus, the fact he couldn’t sleep at all last night. Nope, not with his growing erection that seemed to be filling his pants. He was silently cursing Kagome for putting him through such torture last night. ‘That infernal woman’s incessant squirming against me all night would have driven a monk to sinful thoughts.’
Sesshoumaru sensed Kagome the moment her feet hit the bedroom floor. He could tell that she went to Rin’s room then left quickly. ‘Probably because she didn’t find their little cherub there and she was beginning to panic.’ He thought.
Kagome ran out to the hallway, but didn’t see anyone in the palace. That was alive at least. A seed of worry soon rooted itself with in her. ‘Was there anyone still alive?’ She started to run down stairs looking for her husband.
“Sesshoumaru!” She screamed in terror. No answer. “Rin, are you here? Please!!! I’ll even settle for Jaken!” Kagome whimpered desperately, as she started running through the hallway again. ‘Please! Where are you? Don’t be dead. Don’t be dead…’ she chanted over and over. Her lungs began to burn with the lack of oxygen. Kagome’s muscles began to fatigue. ‘No! I must keep going… Protect and save…’
Sesshourmaru appeared out of thin air and grabbed her.
“Sesso~” Kagome began in a scream, but it quickly went weak.
“Kagome what’s wrong!”
“They’re dead, all dead! I can’t find Rin. Where’s Rin? She is in danger!” her voice grew more gravelly in tone as she talked.
Sesshoumaru shook her hard trying to break her out of her hysterics. “Kagome what are you talking about.” He scolded her.
“The servants! They all are dead. Oh kami, there is blood every where!” Tears streamed down her face. “Please, Sesshoumaru we need to find our cherub. They have her.” Desperation filled her voice in attempt to make him understand and feel her alarm.
Sesshoumaru consoled Kagome by hugging her against him. “Kagome,” he said calmly in her ear. “No ones dead. Look.” He point around them. “Does it look like there is blood anywhere? Rin’s at a friends…”
“But, I saw them. The bodies! I heard Rin scream…” Kagome’s head was buried into Sesshoumaru’s chest.
“Kagome, look at me.” He ordered in a stern tone.
She lifted her head up a little.
“Look around the corridor. There is no blood. See, and there is Jaken.” Sesshoumaru tilted his head at an angle in which the toad demon stood.
Kagome’s eyes spied the ugly little rut of a demon. “But…”
Sesshoumaru wiped her eyes with his hand gentle then brought Kagome’s face to his. He kissed her on the lips in a sweet caring way that stole her breath away. Kagome sighed and began to relax.
“My wife, it was just a dre~”
Kagome’s eyes widened when Sesshoumaru stopped talking to her. His face distorted in pain. Blood spatter hit her in the face. Kagome screamed when she saw a large gaping hole in her husband chest and a hand sticking through it. A was a clawed hand still sticking through Sesshoumaru’s chest dripping with Sesshoumaru’s life’s blood. The talon hand was just inches from piercing her heart. It then moved and threw Sesshoumaru lifeless Taiyoukai’s body to the floor. Kagome back away in shock as her throat constricted cutting off any air going to her. Her eyes now a stormy gray as she tried to move toward Sesshoumaru but the bloody clawed hand grabbed her upper arm in a painful manor steering her away from her husband. Kagome could feel the blood dripping down her arm. It was Sesshoumaru’s.
“Sesshoumaru!” She whispered his name as his lifeless golden eyes stared back at her.
”He can’t hear you Ka-go-me.” A cruel voice answered in joyous amusement.
