Chapter 45: Looking toward the future...

Title: Looking toward the future, forgetting the past.

Prompt and Word Count: Changes-243

Characters: Bankotsu and Jakotsu

Prompt Summary: Jakotsu and Bankotsu both think about the changes in their lives since they met. (If you can't tell, it changes POV at the halfway point.) This actually takes place around part 20 or right after Jakotsu helps Bankotsu escape from jail.

Note: Will move this to the right spot in the story as soon as I figure out to on this site.

Once not so very long ago,

My life had no meaning to show.

There was no place to call my own,

Nor a friend to whom love was shown.

I had been forgotten by all,

Until there were none left to call.

Then it happened just one day,

You appeared and caused me to stray.

The place that had not been a home,

Was left behind so we could roam.

The night we left town, no one stirred,

For they knew not what had occurred.

They did not know you'd broken free,

Or that you had been helped by me.

Straight out of that town we had fled,

Trying to ignore our own dread.

Never once did I look back there,

As we rode away on your mare.

Free from my prison, now I am,

Led away like a little lamb.

A shepherd you had been for me,

Saving me from my misery.

I could only repay in kind,

Rescuing you from your own bind.

And now as we travel away,

Knowing our lives had changed that day.

No longer would you be abused,

Thrown aside after being used.

Never more would I be alone,

For your friendship was not on loan.

What the future holds, we know not,

We only know what we are taught.

Things for us may turn out badly,

But we will continue gladly.

But I do know I want you there,

Riding on the back of my mare.
