~*~ Saigo ni Part I ~*~
~*~ 'Saigo ni' means 'lastly' in Nihonggo. And as the name suggests, this will be the last chapter of this story. I finally finished it, yay! ^_^ Thanx to everyone who bothered to read my story, most esp. those who reviewed and waited for it. It's been a long time coming, I know. And I'm sorry I made you guys wait. Really, truly sorry about that. :( It'll be both sad and sweet that I'm ending this story, but another one's just beginning. I'll be posting an epilogue and that will hail A Love That Transcends Time: Book II. So wait for that guys.

~*~ Saigo ni Part I ~*~
Some time later, they made their way back to where the others waited. The moment Inuyasha saw them, he folded his hands to his chest and interrogated them.
"So where the fuck have you been? We've been twiddling our thumbs here waiting for you. And I thought you were in a hurry,"
Sesshomaru looked at him coldly.
"Show your respect, Inuyasha. And shut up, or I'll shut your mouth up for you,"
Inuyasha was surprised.
"What? What did I say? How come you're being irritable, Fluffy?"
Sesshomaru suddenly rammed his elbow up to Inuyaha's stomach, causing Inuyasha to double over as he fought for breath.
And thereby effectively silencing the hanyou.
Miroku and Sango were too stunned to comment, and no one did once they got a good look at the taiyoukai's face. He didn't bother hiding his expression this time.
He looked mad enough to kill.
"Forgive my brother's rudeness, my lady. Continue,"
He motioned to Midoriko, reading the laughter that was there in her eyes, yet her facial expression never changed. She had exquisite control over herself.
"Hai. Now Miroku and Sango, you must come with me,"
"Yes, my lady,"
The taijiya and the houshi answered in unison. Midoriko now opened yet another portal, this one seeming to be a never-ending abyss.
"Wait. Where are you going"
Inuyasha has recovered enough to ask Midoriko.
"To wait, until the time comes for us to be reborn. Unfortunately, we humans are not as long-lived as you are. We have to... preserve our souls until Kagome's era is upon us,"
"What? We're waiting that long? I thought you said it had to be done at once!"
The miko shook her head.
"This is the way it has to be. I cannot alter time and space to quicken its' steps for us. This is the only thing I can do. You must use the time we are all apart to prepare yourselves. You have to learn, to watch and wait. You have much to gain before you reach Kagome's time. Make sure you make the most out of it,"
She almost stepped into the portal before she stopped, seeming to remember something.
"Oh and yes, before I forget. The two of you are the only ones who will likely remember. Once we meet you again, we should be able to remember slowly, but not before. So if you see us, don't be surprised if we don't recognize you at once,"
"Is it going to be the same with Kagome?"
The miko nodded.
"Unfortunately, yes. It will all be up to you find us, then help us remember. Do not let us down. I'm leaving the Shikon no Tama in your hands, Inuyasha. You are now its' Protector. Keep it safe until you can return it to its' rightful Guardian. Do not part with it unless it is in Kagome's hands,"
Those were Midoriko's parting words as she proceeded to step into the portal. Both Miroku and Sango bowed to them before following the miko. The portal shut close.
The brothers stared at where the portal was for some time, both seeming to be lost in their own thoughts. Sesshomaru then snaps out of his reverie and turned to Inuyasha.
"Come, brother. There is much to do. Let us return to Kaede's village to fetch Rin and the runt. Then we go to claim our birthright,"
Sesshomaru told Inuyasha, referring to the western lands that their father left them. The hanyou nodded his assent, and they moved to the direction of the village. But Inuyasha's thoughts were still of his mate.
'Wait for me, Kagome. I'll come for you, I swear. No amount of time or space could alter what I feel for you and what you mean to me. I WILL find you. And once I do, I'm keeping all of my promises this time. I love you, Kanai,"
