Chapter Fourty


Taree slowed her pace to a steady walk trying to calm down. Maybe she had run out too soon, should she have opened the door to make sure? No, who else would have been in the room with Keiko? It made sense, what had she expected? She'd watched him tell the girl that he'd return to her and that he loved her. Then he'd told Kurama that he hadn't wanted to see Taree again after it was finished. Had she really expected him to change his mind? Thats what she got for assuming.

'What to do? I don't want to head back yet. Hiei will be there with Kagome. I don't want to hear them two going at it thats for damn sure. I'll go for a walk and to make sure I'm not disturbed.' She lifted a barrier around herself, masking her scent and aura. The night air was cool and pleasant. She wasn't sure where she was going but what the hell. If memory served her right there was another temple in this area high on the hill.

She walked for over an hour until she saw where she needed to go. Good thing trespassing wasn't something that bothered her. Upon taking a step up the long staircase, she suddenly felt drawn. Something was pulling her soulstrings, so onward she went. The wooden structure came into view, not bad. 'Rumor has it some physic lives here. Wonder if she is awake. Maybe she tells fortunes, I need to know why my love life always sucks.'

She stared at the two double doors for a few minutes before they slid open. An elderly woman stood there looking right at her, she had a cocky grin on her face. Taree smiled at the woman, "Hello, I didn't mean to wake you."

"I was expecting you, come in."

"Okay." She walked inside, maybe the woman really could tell the future. "Nice place you have here."

"It's mine. So did Yusuke send you here?"

"Um, no. How do you know him? I actually haven't talked to him in months. Don't think I will either." Taree took the cup of tea the woman offered.

"What has the dimwit done now?" Genkai eyed her, the resemblence was almost uncanny. Except the girl was taller, more developed and had Toguro's mouth. 'Why isn't she with Yusuke, the boy should have been more than happy that she was alive. Maybe now he will stop bumming around here and get off his ass.'

"Nothing, mind if I ask for introductions? This is kind of weird, I feel like I should know you but I don't even know your name." Taree sighed, she really didn't want to talk about Yusuke.

"The name is Genkai, and Yusuke was my apprentice at one time."

The girl extended her hand, "Nice to meet you Genkai, name is Taree but you can call me Tar." The old lady took it shaking it lightly. "I'm really sorry if I woke you up. I went for a walk and ended up here. So do you train people? I could probably use some training not to mention Kagome. Hiei said something about training her but I don't think he was talking about fighting if you know what I mean. He definitely had something else in mind if you ask me."

"If you say so."

"I do, listen to this okay. They walked in on us earlier today, some shower incident. Anyways, I'm laying on the floor nude and Kagome is standing in the nude ofcourse. Those two dummies kick the door in, stand there staring. I swear to you Hiei had a boner." Taree actually blushed at the thought.

"Seems Hiei is taken with the girl." Genkai didn't need to be told, both had practically stayed here for the last two months moping about.

"No shit, she must have the good stuff. So, what do you do here Genkai?" Taree suddenly realized she was talking the woman's ear off. "If you don't mind me asking."

"Trying to live the rest of my days out in peace. Your man isn't helping though."

"Huh?"

"Hn. I'm referring to Yusuke. He's been here for over two months, he just left this morning to attend to wedding." Genkai saw her look of suprise.

"Oh, he's not mine." Taree wondered where she'd gotten that foolish idea from. Would be nice if it were true.

"Really?" Then why had he sat pawning for the girl for the last couple of months. Knowing her dimwit, he'd still yet to tell the girl how he felt.

"Guess, I better be getting back home. Getting kind of tired, I'm lucky if I don't fall asleep on the way home." She yawned loudly and stretched. "Thanks for the tea and the conversation."

"Why don't you stay? It's been a long time since this old lady has had decent company." Genkai asked.

"Are you sure? I don't want to impose or anything."

"Nope, I don't mind. Take the spare bedroom the dimwit usually sleeps in." Genkai showed her where the room was. She waited until she knew the girl was asleep before placing the phone call.

"What the hell do you mean you can't find her?" Yusuke yelled at the wind youkai.

"Don't yell, she disappeared." Jin had searched and was sure he was close, then all of a sudden her scent had poofed.

"Calm down, Yusuke I'm sure she's fine." Touya tried to reason with him. "She's probably upset and wants some time alone."

"You calm down, it's your fault she's upset."

"Don't blame us Yusuke." Keiko yelled at him. "Maybe if you'd gotten off your ass and told her how you felt before now this wouldn't be happening. You're such an idiot."

The phone rang and the girl ran to go answer it. Yusuke sat down on the couch, his face buried in his hands. Jin had looked for over an hour. Where could she have gone?

"Yusuke, it's Genkai, she wants to talk to you." Keiko called from the kitchen.

"I don't want to talk to her. Shouldn't her old ass be in bed?"

"She said get your ass on the phone now." Keiko smiled as she said it.

"Fine," He walked into the kitchen and snatched the phone from her. He screamed into the set, "What the hell do you want you old hag?"

"Hn. I should hang up on you smart ass. She's here." Click.

"Jin, get me to Genkai's."


Kagome tried to roll over and found herself unable to move. Her eyes snapped open in suprise, something was on top of her. Someone to be more precise, her breath caught. She reached her hand out to hit her lamp, the light blazed in her room. Hiei was almost completely on top of her. He had his head on her chest, half his body was laying on hers. He was sleeping soundly it seemed. She reached out and switched the light back off, pitching the room back into darkness.

"Bout time, that light is annoying."

"Sorry, didn't mean to wake you. What the hell are you doing using me as a pillow?" She felt him stir. Not that she didn't like having him with her. The reason why was what bugged her.

"Not that, so stop thinking it."

"Right, why else would you be here? If not for that."

"I told you, you belong to me. I keep what's mine."

She started to see red, he still thought of her as a possession. "Get off me, I don't belong to anyone. I am not your possession."

"I never said you were." Hiei leaned up to look down at her.

"Yes you just did. Why else would you claim me?"

The words caught in his throat, he wasn't any good at this. "I am not good at expressing silly human emotions. You should know how I feel."

She was stunned. What was he trying to tell her? "What are you trying to say?"

"Don't make me say it."

"You tell me what you mean or get the hell out." She held her breath, hoping.

"Dammit." He was as good at this as he was to admitting he was wrong. "Fine have it your way woman. I love you. Happy now?"

"Yes." She grabbed his shirt bringing his mouth down to hers. He took possession of her mouth, sliding his tongue inside. Kagome couldn't have been happier, he loved her.

He pulled away from her, "Go back to sleep." He took his position back on her chest. He heard her sigh of disappointment. "There are little ones next door, two of them are awake."

"Oh."
