Part 4: The Way It Should Be


Kagome stared up at the dimming sky from the the bottom of the well.

'Everything will be how it should be once I leave this place for good... I was never meant to be a part of this world anyway, right...?'

She knew that she should climb up over the rim, but she wasn't ready yet to say her "goodbyes" to this era and her friends...

She sighed. It was starting to get dark - it would be for the best to reach the village before the day turned to night.

With much reluctance, she grabbed hold of some vines, and ascended to the top.

Kagome gave a short squeak of surprise as she felt a strong arm wrap about her waist, pulling her up the rest of the way.

Her gray-blue eyes locked with amber. Those molten depths caused her heart to miss a beat.

"Sessho-maru..."

"Have you an answer?" he stated smoothly as he held firmly to her small form.

"Y-yes, I have..." she stammered slightly as she felt the intense heat of his gaze upon her. Why the hell was she nervous for?

With all her stenghth and will, she replied. "My answer is no... I will not stay with you... I have made my choice - to return home, and be done with both you and Inu-Yasha...The question is can you accept that answer and let me be?"

"You are aware that it is too late to be through with what has been set in motion..." he breathed. "Not when you carry my pup..."

Her eyes lit with confusion. "H-how did you--?"

"The mere change in your scent," he stated flaty, cutting her question short. "Did you think that this Sessho-maru would not notice? Or were you planning to leave without giving me an answer or knowledge of this child?!"

"You're right..." she whispered. "I was planning on leaving without leaving an answer. The pregnancy? Why would I ever willing tell you? You've made it clear how you feel about hanyous..."

She pulled away, placing an arm protectively across her stomach.

"Correction - hanyou not hanyous. I only truely despise one... for my own reasons...I would never forsake that which is mine - you are mine..."

He gave her no time to respond as he leaned down to nip the soft flesh of her bottom lip before gently suckling the tender flesh.

He shifted his lips to completely cover hers in a chaste kiss, pressing harder in a silent plea for her to part her soft lips and grant him access to her sweet mouth.

Kagome groaned as she found herself in a losing battle as her body betrayed her.

Sessho-maru wasted no time as he hungrily plundered her lips, tasting all that was uniquely her.

"Do you really want to be done with this?" he growled as he pulled up from their kiss.

He gazed at her, watching as her gray-blue orbs flickered with conflicting emotions.

"I don't know..." she murmured softly, "Would this relationship - if I choose to stay - be based upon anything more than physical lust?"

"Perhaps..." he stated smoothly. "But you would have to give it chance before you came to a conclusion."

Kagome passed for a moment to let herself contemplate this information.

He was right, and that's what scared her. 'What have I got to loss...?'

"Are you willing to try?"

With a nervous nod, she stepped closer to him, allowing him to pull her into searing kiss.

"You won't regret this..." he whispered huskily as he picked her up.

With his soon-to-be mate in his arms, he started toward the western lands. 'I shall claim you once we arrive in my domain...the way I was meant to...'
