Half-Dead Hanyou
Violence+Language!
Kagome sighed with relief as she slid the large bolt across her reinforced safe-house door. The demon-military mini-war, that she and Shippou had detected, seemed to have moved away from their location. Kagome smiled at Shippou who also smiled, simply glad the danger was over. Scares like these were few and far between for the pair, but it was still very stressful when they did happen.“I guess we’ll be leaving Tokyo tomorrow then?” asked Shippou, breaking the silence.
“Yep but we had better leave it ‘till the afternoon so it’s not suspicious” said Kagome nodding.
‘It’s a shame’ thought Kagome, she had been looking forward to staying in her newest house, it was a small one story building with two bedrooms, a small entrance hall, a surprisingly large bathroom, a small but not cramped kitchen and a combined living-room/dining area. It had a slanting roof so there was also some storage space. The house was small but had been in no way cheap. The main reason for that was the garden the house backed onto, this was outfitted to look like a small bit of woodland with a couple of trees and some shrubs. The garden had been for Shippou mostly so there was an oasis of green in the concrete city.
The interior was quite flash too, from top of the range kitchen fittings to the luxury bathroom with a large bath and separate shower.
As Kagome looked around she felt proud of what she bought with he well earned (mostly) cash.
“I’ll cook us something for supper then” said Shippou cheerfully, heading for the kitchen.
Kagome smirked to herself, a meal by Shippou meant two things: 1 the fox demon is in high spirits, 2 they were eating instant ramen or takeaway. Not that Kagome had the heart to do anything other than compliment his meal choices. She could only assume that Shippou was glad to be leaving the city almost as soon as they'd got there. Chuckling to herself she went to make beds for them both.
…....
About a mile away a surly Cornell with a limp was listing to a report.
“The demon scum have all fled or been killed, civilians are acting normal. Only two civilians were killed during the fighting, the official story is that there was a gas explosion. Building damage was surprisingly light and ninety percent of the alloy rounds have been collected, a record number. ”
“And what of that confounded dog-demon?” Barked the Cornell.
The young officer giving the report gulped, he had hoped not to convey this bit of news.
“He was sighted and probably wounded, but yet again the bullets did not effect him in the usual way and we were unable to capture him. ”
“I see” said the Cornell, “I want you to continue your search of the area until either you find him or I stop the operation. ”
“Yes Sir!” said the young officer saluting. He then added, “Can I say Sir, that the dog demon did not appear to be fighting for the demons, indeed if anything he seemed to be fighting against them when we first arrived. ”
…... Kagome and Shippou ate the inevitable ramen and Kagome found that she enjoyed it almost as much as Shippou. They talked a while about which house to go to next, it was the usual argument of country for Shippou or city for Kagome. They usually alternated to keep things fair, but it didn’t seem right to Kagome for them to go back to the country when they had only been in the city for one lousy day. The argument went on until they both decided to go to bed early as they were tired from the day’s excitement and they would be able to think more clearly in the morning. After doing all her usual pre-bed activities, (brush teeth, secure house...etc...) Kagome was just about to actually climb into bead when a sudden odd sensation of not-quite-right-ness washed over her.
Listening carefully she couldn’t hear anything other than Shippou snoring in the next room. Suddenly a loud crash filled the air, coming from the kitchen. Luckily due to the fact they would be leaving again tomorrow, Kagome had not packed her pistol away and it still lay on her bedside table. Hoping with all her soul that it was just a cat or stray dog, Kagome grabbed her gun and silently crept from her room towards the kitchen. There were rustling noises and as far as Kagome could tell an intruder was in her kitchen, swearing under their breath and attacking the first-aid box. Kagome remained perfectly calm as she rounded the corner of the door frame, she had been in worse situations. Also due to the high firearms regulations in Japan the intruder was unlikely to be armed, and she was. She couldn't help wonder why someone would break in to use the first aid kit, if they were injured they could have simply rung the doorbell and asked for help.
As she looked into the room Kagome first realized that the floor was wet with blood, a lot of blood. She looked at the intruder who was facing away from her, bent over the first aid kit. He wore traditional style red robes had long white (bleached presumably) hair several wounds were bleeding through his robes on his back. Most noticeably he had a sword on his waist so Kagome decided to pin him before he had the chance to use it.
Taking a deep breath Kagome took a wide stance in the doorway and pointed her handgun at the intruder.
“Alright! I want your hands in the air” Said Kagome trying to sound like a cop. She had not expected this to work so it was a complete surprise when the Intruder sighed and put his hands in the air. Kagome noticed a bullet wound on his shoulder, perhaps this guy was too beat-up to give her any trouble. “Err OK then turn around slowly, please” She said thinking, ‘why am I being polite?’
The figure slowly turned making Kagome gasp and nearly drop her gun.
Those amber eyes, those fangs, that outfit and those ears! It was him! the first demon she ever faced, only he looked even worse than last time.
He was covered in blood and his chest, shoulders and stomach had about seven bullet wounds between them. And yet he was still standing, Kagome suddenly rather doubted the usefulness of her pistol. “What?’” he said growling, “Ain’t ya gonna shoot me like everyone else?” And with that he collapsed face first into a pool of his own blood. It was at this point that a bleary-eyed Shippou wandered into the room.
“Hey there Kags, couldn't sleep either? I’m just gonna get me a.... Gah! What the hell?!” Shippou had spotted the demon on the floor.
“What did you do to him Kagome?!” Shouted Shippou holding his head as if it was about to drop off.
Shippou’s accusation brought Kagome out of her shock.
“What? I didn’t do this!” exclaimed Kagome realizing how lame that sounded considering he was full of bullets and she was holding a gun.
“That's not important now anyway!” said Shippou, “Shouldn’t you do something to help? Like stop the bleeding before he dies on the kitchen floor”
“Oh, err, yea!” Said Kagome snapping back to reality and grabbing a bandage...
…..
20 minutes earlier...
‘Damn it!’ thought Inuyasha as he limped along a dark alley. He tried to use his robes to stop the bleeding but it was no good, the wounds from those spiritual powered bullets just didn’t heal properly.
‘I can’t believe I was shot up AGAIN!’ he thought furiously, ‘What have I ever done to them?’
Inuyasha usually kept to rural areas to avoid detection, but sometimes it was impossible to avoid. This time he had simply needed clothes, his usual attire had been worn until it was usable so he had donned his traditional fire rat robes and made his way to civilization. He had been looking for somewhere to stay the night when he came across a rag-tag colony of demons hiding in an abandoned warehouse. Thinking he was in luck Inuyasha decided to seek shelter with them but it all went wrong when the leader of the bunch, a surly wolf demon, decided to challenge him. Inuyasha refused, causing an uproar that caused many lesser demons to run riot. It didn’t take long for the anti-demon squads of the military to turn up and soon an all out war was raging. As usual Inuyasha was caught in the crossfire, leaving him in his current sorry state.
‘Damn!’ he thought again as his vision blurred, if he didn’t find some medical supplies soon it would be too late.
Inuyasha suddenly felt something from one of the houses around him, a fox demon. What luck! The kitsune had often been kind to him in the past, they would understand. Inuyasha jumped into the garden of the house, but soon regretted it. The jump took to much from his batted body and he almost collapsed. There was no time to wait for someone to notice him, he had to get medicines now! Inuyasha smashed the nearest window and pulled himself through. Realizing that he was in a kitchen, he grabbed the first aid kit off the wall and tore it open.
He was in bad shape, his senses were failing and he was having trouble staying upright. He couldn't even see what was in the first aid kit. "Fuck this is bad! Shit!" He was about to give up hope when he heard a voice behind him telling him to put his hands up. Hoping this was the fox-demon he had sensed he obeyed, but his heart sank to the floor when he was told to turn around and saw a miko with a gun rather than a kitsune.
The pain was becoming too much he was going to collapse any second. “What?’” he managed to say, realizing he was growling, “Ain’t ya gonna shoot me like everyone else?” With that his vision blacked out, he didn’t even manage to raise his arms to stop his fall.
