I Want a Divorce
Chapter Four: I Want a Divorce
Ayame smelled him. He was close, really close. She picked up her speed as she sprinted through the forest, dodging trees. 'I have a pretty friend for you to meet, Sesshomaru. This is my sword. Watch as I plunge it through your throat', she smirked at the thought.
She rounded the corner, almost crashing into a two headed dragon beast. She took a few steps back, staring at the beast. It didn't seem bothered by her at all. 'Odd... most demons like this one would attack on sight.'
She frowned, looking for Sesshomaru. His scent surrounded this two headed demon. Ayame growled, she would find him, where ever he was hiding.
Suddenly something green came out from behind the beast. "What are YOU doing here! Such an irritating she-wolf", said the annoying green imp, Jaken.
Ayame grabbed the little green imp by the front of his robe, lifting him up, "Tell me where your master is", she demanded.
Jaken wiggled his little webbed feet, his robe choking him. "I d-don't... kn-know", he stuttered out.
She stared him down. He had to be lying, what servant wouldn't know where his master was? Ayame slowly drew a small dagger out of a sheath hidden under her skirt, strapped to her leg. "Are you suuure you don't know?", she sneered as she pointed the dagger to his stomach.
The imp began to sweat, "I SWEAR! I don't know!!! I SWEAR!!", he screeched.
Her eyes narrowed as she pushed the dagger against his stomach, making sure he could feel it. 'If Sesshomaru doesn't show now. Killing his faithful servant will get my message across.' she thought to herself.
She was about to shove the dagger right into the wiggling imp when a voice came from behind her, "Put him down."
She smirked, turning to face her new mate. "Oh, sweety, did you want this dirty imp to live?"
Sesshomaru calmly repeated, "Put. Him. Down."
Ayame rolled her eyes, tossing the imp aside. "Thaaank you Lorrrd Sesshoma-Ouch!!", Jaken yelled as he flew into a tree.
"Explain yourself", Sesshomaru demanded.
Ayame flipped her dagger in the air then sheathed it casually. Sesshomaru watched intently when she lifted her skirt to sheath it. She glared at him, "Kouga won't even consider taking me as a mate."
"Of course he wouldn't, you're already mated", he stated.
"Yes. Yes I am. To you. And for some reason...", Ayame tapped her chin in thought, "I can't remember giving you permission to do so."
"Perhaps you should not use such intoxicating smells to bathe in."
Ayame frowned, pondering, 'I wonder how much the special soap's smell had actually affected him... Kagome had said Inuyasha went crazy when she wore the perfume. What would it do to a full Dog-Demon like Sesshomaru? The bastard was too cocky to admit he wasn't strong enough to resist.'
Sesshomaru's voice brought her out of her thoughts. "Accept that you are my mate and come with me. Forget that worthless Wolf-Demon."
"I will not forget about him! Kouga was meant to be mine! I was meant to belong to him, not you! I refuse to go with a mutt who I despise!", Ayame yelled.
Ayame swiftly drew her sword and charged at Sesshomaru. Drawing his sword as well he blocked her attack. Ayame wasn't a skilled swords-woman, she was only trained in the basics. She mostly used he leaf attacks. But with every hit she swung at Sesshomaru, she felt like an expert.
Not once did Sesshomaru attack back. He just merely dodged and blocked her attacks as if he were fighting a child. And she was not a child!! She sped up her attacks, the clashing of their swords was almost deafening. They had moved away from Jaken and the two headed beast. Ayame was almost chasing Sesshomaru with how much he dodged away from her. She growled, the fact that she hadn't hit him once was pissing her off.
Raising her sword above her head, she brought it down with as much force as her small body could provide. The swords clanged together. And hers broke. Her sword. Broke. Ayame stared at her pathetic broken sword, then at Sesshomaru's apathetic face. He made no move to attack her in her weakened state. "Agh!", she threw aside the sword, leaping into a backwards summersault.
In mid-spin she threw out her ninja star leaves. Sesshomaru dodged them, moving backwards. She threw another batch of five when she landed, that he dodge and deflected with his sword.
She needed him to stay still if she was going to be able to get a chance to hit him. She grinned. She had it. She stomped her foot, and roots sprouted around Sesshomaru, wrapping him up tight. She giggled evilly. She held her ninja star leaf, aiming right at that perfect face of his. She paused, what happens if one kills their mate? She shrugged and raised her hand to throw.
"Uhhmm..."
Ayame whipped her head around to the sound. There sat Kagome, Inuyasha, Shippo, Miroku, Sango, two small children and a baby in Sango's arms. They were all sitting on a large blanket, and looked to be eating lunch. They were all staring at her, their hands frozen with food halfway to their mouth. The two kids looked to have been wrestling, but had stopped in random poses. Inuyasha's hand was on Shippo's face as he held a dumpling over his head. "Should we... move?", Miroku asked quietly.
Sesshomaru tore through the roots that were holding him, and stood silently, waiting for her next attack. "Geezz Sesshomaru! What did ya do THIS time?", Inuyasha question, returning from his shocked state, stuffing his face with the dumpling, Shippo pouted at him.
Sesshomaru didn't even spare him a glance. His eyes didn't leave Ayame once. "You can fight it all you wish. But you belong to me."
"AhhhhHHHRRGGHH!!!", Ayame screamed as she threw her ninja star leaf.
Sesshomaru stood still for once, the razor sharp leaf flew past him, the edge barely skimming his cheek. A thin line of blood appeared, Sesshomaru's expression remained arrogant and apathetic as always. How she ever thought she could hurt him was beyond her. She could see it in his eyes so clearly. The mark on her neck hummed.
He was right, there was nothing she could do, she belonged to him.
Then he was gone. As if he was never there. Seemed like she was always the one being left. She sighed, turning to the group who hadn't stopped staring at her. Kagome spoke first, "What does he mean, that you belong to him?"
Ayame sighed, pulling off the leather choker, showing the mark on her neck. What had once been a bloody bite mark, now was a violet crescent moon.
The two humans stared at the mark confused, Kagome gasped and Inuyasha stated blatantly, "I knew you smelled different!"
Kagome gave Inuyasha a death glare. He blinked at her, confused, "What...? I was just sayin'..."
Kagome sighed and looked to Ayame, who was retying the black, leather choker around her neck. "What happened?"
Ayame shook her head, looking off into the distance. "It doesn't matter. The fact is that I'm now mated with an arrogant asshole and Kouga won't even look at me."
Kagome gasped softly, "Oh Ayame.. I'm so sorry..."
Ayame could feel a tear slip down her cheek. She looked at the group who offered her sympathized looks. Not one word of comfort. Without saying goodbye, Ayame left the group to their lunch.
*********************
For awhile, Ayame wandered aimlessly, her wolves following behind her, heads bowed. She felt like something had died inside of her. She had been seven when she had fallen in love with Kouga. All she had ever thought about was when she was going to marry him and have his pups. It was all gone. Ayame didn't know what to do next. Without her goal to seduce Kouga, she had nothing left. Ayame sighed, and Kuito howled behind her. "You're right, Kuito. I should return to the wolf pack."
Taking care of the pathetic wolf pack would take her mind off things. She hoped.
When Ayame returned to camp, one of the pack members ran up to her, "Ayame! You're back, Joikin needs to speak with you right away! Its urgent!!"
Ayame nodded to the Wolf-Demon, "Alright"
The Wolf-Demon scratched his nose, looking closely at Ayame. "Ayame... you smell... did you MATE while you were gone!?"
Ayame glared at him "That's none of your business!"
He laughed, running over to his friend, "Jaku! Jaku! Guess WHAT! Ayame's been CLAIMED and it doesn't smell like it was done by a Wolf-Demon either!"
"You're kidding me!!"
"Nope! Go over there and smell her yourself!!"
Before they had the chance, Ayame hurried off to find Joikin.
Joikin, the pack leader, was sitting at the camp fire, talking casually to one of the females. She giggled at him, flirting with him. Ayame's heart throbbed, how she wished she could do that with Kouga. "You needed to see me?"
Joikin look up from the maiden, "Ayame! You're back! Good, good," he stood, "Walk with me?"
Ayame nodded, following Joikin. "Ayame, we're having problems with a nearby kingdom to the west. Farmers are taking up what small amount of territory we have left. I fear that if this continues to happen, we'll be driven from our home."
Ayame frowned, "What does this have to do with me? They're not being violent or anything, right?"
"No, they're not" he turned to her, "Ayame... I need this favor... As a pack leader I'm extremely ashamed, but I have no people skills. Talking to a Lord of a huge palace makes me nervous. I figured since you're female... Maybe you could get more done...?"
"Are you trying to whore me out?"
"No! No! Nooo! Ayame! You're hearing me wrong! I just figured you would be better with the talking. I promise if you do this for me, you will be know very well across the land. You will be a hero!"
Ayame twirled her pigtail between her fingers in thought. There was something Joikin wasn't telling her, she was sure of it. He was scared of something. Negotiating land was one of the easiest things a pack leader could do. But this job would certainly keep her busy. She'd be crazy not to accept. "Alright. I'll do it."
"Thank you! Thank you so much Ayame!", he praised.
She nodded, walking away. She had a bad feeling about this.
