Sesshomarus eyes fluttered open and he sat up, yawning and stretching his arms. He looked around and noticed that he wasn’t at home, and then he looked beside him and saw Rin asleep. He smiled down at her peacefully sleeping form, and then he stood and made his way to the bathroom. After proceeding in his morning duties, Sesshomaru was making his way back to Rin when he remembered that he had not called his father. Taking his phone from his pocket, he noticed that there weren’t any missed calls. Dialing his house number, he waited patiently for someone to answer.

“Hello?” A voice said on the other line.

“Mother, Good morning.”

“Sesshomaru, you didn’t come home last night.” Izayoi said a bit worried. “Where did you sleep?”

“At my girlfriends’ house, we lost track of time and when I dropped her home, she invited me in and we were watching a movie, but we fell asleep.”

“Oh Sesshomaru,” Izayoi said teasing him, but she knew he wasn’t the kind of boy to be too forward with a girl. “Shame you haven’t even brought this girl to meet me and your father yet.”

“I shall soon mother,” Sesshomaru said after a pause, “But I must go now, I’ll call later.”

“Bye Sesshomaru.”

After Izayoi made her reply, Sesshomaru hung up the phone and made his way back to a still sleeping Rin. ‘She sleeps long.’ He thought, and then looked at the time, it was 9:23 in the morning and she had still not woken up. Maybe she was just really tired?

As he made his way over to the makeshift bed they shared last night, Sesshomaru heard Rin mumble something in her sleep. He watched with confusion clearly read on his features. She began to stir in her sleep and she moving her arms, like she was trying to fight someone off. She was beginning to pant when her eyes shot open and she sat up quickly. Shortly after, Rin broke out into tears.

“Rin,” Sesshomaru said as he held the sobbing girl in his arms, “Don’t worry. I’m here, what’s wrong?”

Rin was breathing rapidly and her hair was plastered to her face with a cold sweat. Her sobbing still had not subsided, and neither had her tears. But Sesshomaru waited patiently for her to make her reply, he wouldn’t rush her.

“Rin come, you are not well,” Sesshomaru picked up her small form and began to walk to her rom. She buried her face in his chest and clung to the feeling of safety she had when she was around him. “Sesshomaru, I … I’m so sorry. I’m so weak; I can’t push this memory from my mind.” Her face still to his chest as he climbed the stairs to her room; too ashamed to meet his eyes.

“Hush, you are not weak. I will do what it takes for you to see that.” Sesshomaru said as he walked into her room. He placed her on the bed and hovered over her, studying her as she thought of words to say.

“But Sesshomaru,” Rin stared but was hushed by a suggestive look from Sesshomaru. She slightly smiled at this and said, “I am grateful … to have met someone like you.”

Sesshomaru leaned down to kiss her, “Sleep” He smiled. Rin nodded and complied, as she closed her eyes, Sesshomaru moved from over her and spread the blanket over her. He wanted her to rest, he wanted to being her to meet his family—the important people anyway.

“Sesshomaru, will you find me?” I was cheerful, happy to be in the presence of him. It was spring time and the castle grounds were blossoming with life. The beautiful petals from the Sakura tree above fell around us as we sat together under its shade.

“Wherever you are, my love will guide me to you.”He was so beautiful, Sesshomaru. We were married, in love. We grew up together, side-by-side. I had always admired him, but over the years it grew into something so much stronger.

I turned to him and I couldn’t help but smile. He was so beautiful, his face angelic, his movements so graceful. He looked at me with those deep amber eyes I adored so much; I was lost, lost in him. He leaned closer to me, I could feel his breath on my skin, “You beautiful, My Rin.” He closed the distance.

I felt my heart pound harder against my chest, but all too soon he pulled away—very discreetly. I gave him a smile that I felt could melt ice, “I love you.”

He pulled me close to him and hugged me to his chest, “And I you.”

-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-

A few years past and I neared my 30th year. I was always ill, but this was worse—I wouldn’t get better. I feared wouldn’t make it through this, I didn’t want to leave him alone in this world.

“My dearest, will you find me?” My voice was low, rough.

He touched my face, his touch warm against my cool skin. “I always will.”

“I will wait for you.” I could feel my life leaving me as I spoke those words. As I braced myself for one last look, I could see love and sadness in his glossy eyes. I gave him one last smile—as bright as I could make it—before I departed this world. The tears burning behind my eyes finally fell as his did.

“I love you Sesshomaru,” My words barely audible. He placed a chaste kiss on my dry lips as I closed my eyes.

Rin bolted to a sitting position; she was panting and he heart was pounding in her chest. She touched her lips, her dream felt so real—like a vision from the past. She looked around her bedroom, she was alone. She remembered Sesshomaru being there with her, she didn’t know how long she had slept—maybe he had gone home?

When he heart stopped pounding in her ears, Rin heard voices coming from her home. The voices were muffled, but she could tell Sesshomaru was one of them. The other was vaguely familiar. Rin puzzled over who it could be for mere seconds, and then froze at her realization.

“K … Kyou.” His presence sent a wave of fear crashing through her. She could feel her heart begin to race and hear her breath bordering hyperventilation. ‘Calm down Rin, calm down.’ She repeated these words in her head like a mantra. She willed her body to move and she stood from the bed. Making her way slowly to the door, she opened it—extremely slowly—and the voices because more audible … But not extremely so.

Creeping her way to the top of the stairs she could hear the voices almost clearly now.

“… Away, now,” She heard Sesshomaru say.

“What does it matter to you what happens to her?” Kyou answered hotly.

“Because I love and care about her.” Sesshomaru said matter-of-factly. “Now leave; neither Rin nor do I wish for you to be here.”

“He loves me?” Rin whispered to herself in shock. He has told her that he cares for her, but not that he loves her. This knowledge warmed her heart and gave her courage to face the demon of her past, knowing that someone will always be behind her.

“Well I Love-“

“Don’t even say it; you know it’s not true.” Sesshomaru and Kyou had not noticed when Rin had descended the stairs and was now walking toward them. She looked to Sesshomaru, “Thank you, but I can handle this.” She hugged him before he walked to the kitchen, leaning against a counter—Rin and Kyou still in clear view—arms folded across his chest.

“Rin I missed you so much.” Kyou tried to move closer to her arms spread for a hug. Rin pushed him away and said, “Don’t touch me.”

“Rin just let me-“

“No, I won’t let you!” Rin yelled. “I won’t take this bullshit from you anymore!”

“You never let me-“

“Did I say you could talk?” Rin was furious, she had been too submissive, too passive her whole life. It was time she took charge, if even just this once. “You think you can rape me, leave me, and walk back into my life? Who the fuck do you think you are? You have had such an influence on me, my life, and my actions. And you say you love me? I’ve found someone I love, and do you think he would do that to me? You took advantage of me, and I will never forgive you. I hate you and I want nothing to do with you.”

Rin was brooding with anger. She had never been this angry in her life, just being near him infuriated her … And she couldn’t stand it anymore. “I fucking hate you, and I always will. I can hardly stand to look at you. How does it feel, to have your heart trampled on? Fuck you Kyou.”

Kyou stood in silence, he was angry … really angry. “Are you shocked?” Rins voice was sarcastic as she spoke her words.

Kyou reached for her, but had his hand abruptly slapped away and a glare followed. “Rin don’t do this.” His voice was betraying his anger.

“No, get out.” Rin pushed him once more and slammed the door in his face. As she locked it, she slumped to the ground, her palms flat on the smooth surface, and strong arms wrapped around her sobbing body.
