Chapter 4: Friend

“Where were you?!” Sango cried in the front seat of his car.

“I thought it’d be better if you talked to Inuyasha yourself.”

“Well you thought wrong!” She gave him a swift punch in the arm, and the car swerved.

“Hey hey! Don’t punch the driver!”

“Miroku, can you please tell me what happened?” asked Sango in a serious tone.

. .

It was finally the weekend, which meant no classes for Kagome. It was a beautiful day, bright sun, not a cloud in sight, and warm wind. She decided to go visit her grandpa at their family shrine on the other side of the city. Her eyes sparkled as she hummed a happy tune and kicked around some pebbles when she walked. All of a sudden she stopped and tensed. Oh god, is the world really this small? She thought to herself as she looked up. Standing about 10 feet away from her with his arms crossed was Inuyasha. She groaned and slapped her hand on her face. He looked at her in an intense gaze, his eyes flickered to her bandaged hand for a brief moment before returning to her face. Inuyasha took a step to the side and it looked like he was about to leave her in peace for once. I’m so going to kill myself for this later. She took a step to the side, blocking his path. They were now face to face .. well.. face to shoulders. “Can we talk?”

“No.”

“Why are you being such a bitch? I’ve never even met you before!” she huffed as she crossed her arms.

Never met me? You’re not only a spoiled brat; you suffer from memory loss too. But it’s no surprise; someone who grew up getting everything they wanted handed to them on a silver platter can’t have much of a brain.”

Kagome stared at him in shock. She snapped out of her stupor and caught his arm before he could leave.

“Do you know me?”

Inuyasha mistook the confusion in her voice for attitude. “I don’t have time for this! For your sake, let’s hope we won’t see each other ever again.” He snapped his arm back before stalking away. Inuyasha’s sudden strength made Kagome stumble back and trip over the curb. She used her hands to brace herself for the fall and the bandages on her hand ripped from the force. Kagome yelped in pain as she cradled her recovering hand in her lap. She didn’t even notice traffic starting to build until she heard loud honking. Kagome looked up but was blinded by a set of headlights. She didn’t even have a chance to scream.

. .

Bankotsu was strolling down the streets, heading towards a bar for an early drink, when –

“Why are you being such a bitch? I’ve never even met you before!” Angry voices were coming from the other side of the street. It seemed like two couples were arguing...but they never met? Couple or not, that didn’t bother Bankotsu, his attention was the girl. She was adorable. Long raven hair swept up in a high ponytail, dark blue stud earrings. Her curvy body in a pink strapless floral print dress paired off with strappy white wedges. Mom would be so happy if I brought her home, He chuckled at the thought. His attention snapped at the two when he heard a cry. Bankotsu looked up to see the girl sitting in the middle of a lane holding an almost pink hand. Normally his reaction would be to immediately rush to help her, but he was feeling like a shy little school boy at the moment. He paled when he didn’t see the girl budge as an oncoming bus headed towards her.

. .

Kagome covered her head with her arms as she waited for darkness. She quickly opened her eyes when she felt herself being thrown aside from the road.

“Are you blind?! Get off the streets!” yelled angry drivers.

Kagome sat up and frantically looked around her. Lying beside her was her savior.

“Are you alright? Say something!” she gasped, shaking his arm.

Bankotsu laughed when he heard the panic in her voice. He turned to his side and propped his head on his hand as he stared at her. “Hi, I’m Bankotsu.” He said as he held out his free hand with a lopsided grin on his face. They probably looked very silly lying so casually on the sidewalk.

Kagome sighed in relief and pulled him up by his hand with a small smile.

“Thank you so much, I don’t know how I can ever repay you! And I’m so sorry about those,” she said as she pointed to the scratches on his cheeks and arm. “It’s no problem, they’ll heal. Is your hand okay though? It looks pretty beat up.”

She had forgotten all about that, but now that she’s thought of it, it hurts more than ever. “I’m alright.”

She dug in one of her pockets on the back of her dress and pulled out a couple of band aids. Kagome dropped them in his hand before turning to leave. “My name’s Kagome, and thanks again!” Bankotsu stared at the blue band aids in his hand, before looking up to see her retreating back. “Hey!” he called out as he jogged up to her, “you can repay me by letting me bring you out for dinner sometime.” Kagome looked at him, eyes full of hesitation. “Alright then... well, I’m heading to my grandpa’s now, if you want to join me....” “Sure!”

. .

“Grandpa! You there?” Kagome called out as she slid open the doors to their home, Bankotsu behind her. “Have a seat in the living room; I’m going to freshen up.” He walked into the kitchen to bandage his cuts when he saw a grey haired man walk into the room. “Hi, I’m Bankotsu. Mr....?” Kagome’s grandpa jumped back in surprise. “Higurashi.” He looked at Bankotsu in suspicion. “Are you dating my grand daughter?” Before he could get a word out, he was bombarded with questions. “How old are you? Did you finish high school? Do you have a job? Have you been in jail?” Bankotsu laughed. “No, 25, yes and yes actually, I’m a real estate agent, and no I haven’t Mr.Higurashi.”

“Kaede!” yelled the old man. A minute later, a woman with similar features walked in. “Yes dear?” “Meet our future son in law.” He introduced in approval. Bankotsu looked away shyly.

“Grandpa! What are you talking about?!” asked Kagome as she stormed in. “We’re just friends. As a matter of fact, we just met today. He saved my life.” “Ah, more of a reason to get married,” he replied with a raised finger.

“Oh c’mon old man, stop your jabbering and leave those kids alone,” exclaimed Kaede as she pulled him out of the room. “Have fun children.”

“Heh- sorry about that. You want some pasta? I haven’t ate much today and I’m starving.” Kagome asked, scratching the back of her head. “Sure, thanks.”

Bankotsu headed into the living room and turned on the TV.

Ring ring Ring ring

He looked at Kagome’s cell phone on the table and at Kagome. She probably couldn’t hear through the stove fan.

Ring ring Ring ring

He looked at Kagome again before reaching for the phone and flipping it open.

“Hello?”

. .

Sango looked at Miroku in shock. They were parked in front of her campus, but they sat inside in silence. They have been sitting in silence for awhile now.

“Is that what really happened Miroku?”

“Yeah... I thought it’d be better it Inuyasha told you himself... but.. you know him. I’m surprised you didn’t know what happened before.”

“She didn’t mention this at all.” She gasped as she looked at him. “We need to tell her. What if she runs into Inuyasha again?” Sango thought back to Inuyasha’s threat. “I’m calling her right now.”

She tried several times but no one picked up. “I’m worried, why don’t you try calling Inuyasha?” Miroku looked at her in confusion before flipping open his phone and dialling Inuyasha’s number. “Hello?”

“Hey Inu, did you see Kagome lately?”

“Why the hell are you calling me when you lost her? I won’t stoop that low to kidnap her.”

He had completely forgotten to mention how he ran into her earlier but ... he didn’t care. Let her wander alone.

“Nothing.” Miroku told Sango as he hung up. “Let me call her one more time.”

“Hello?” a male voice picked up.

“Hello? Who’s this?”

“Are you looking for Kagome? She’s busy right now."

“Who the hell’s this? Where is she?!” Sango panicked.

“We’re at her grandpa’s shrine right now. I can pass a message if you'd like”

“Okay. It’s Sango; tell her to call me back as soon as possible. It’s urgent."

Revealing past in next chapter? Hm, maybe.
I realized that I like writing every single detail of what’s happening. I have a feeling this is going to be a long story. Hopefully you guys have the patience to keep up! I have many twists and turn ideas in my sleeves. And it seems like Inuyasha is going to get some competition eh? I’ve always thought Bankotsu was hot. Here’s the dress that Kagome’s wearing in the chapter: http://15dollarstore.com/img/4550_1_1830_p.jpg, but in pink. I like providing visuals ^^.

HikariNeko33 - Aaha, yes. Sango’s personality is more obvious. But you will see the OOCness in future chapters. For example, I can make Miroku evil. AHAH, who knows? ;). Omg, it’s the same for me. When chapters are too long, and the paragraphs go on forever. I tend to skim through or .. skip. Lol! Thanks for reviewing again!

Ygfi - Thanks for the advice! I will try to be more descriptive. And I hope you didn’t mean the mention of Inu’s past, because it was intentional, not mentioning all of it. Just in saying, in case : )

Harmony Sunsinger - Aaha, you haven’t seen anything twisty yet :D. I’m playing around with a few ideas right now but I will have to make it a good enough of one so that it’ll be a good reason for Inu to be a jerk. AHA. And it’s alright, take your time on The Affair. I understand how hard it is to write fictiony stuff : (me!). Thanks for reviewing again!

Kmoaton - Yep! It might take a while for the loving Inu to come back, who knows : ). I like him too, reminds me of Sesshy. And I love sesshy. ^^. Thanks for review!

Iz- e- ma RR - Aha, good timing. I was just finished writing this when I saw your review, so I had to go back and write this : ). And thank you for coming back!

I’m hoping for .. “Reviews [23]” before I post up my next chapter? ^^, is that too much to ask?
Longest chapter I’ve ever written, *pats back*.
