The Quirks Of Curse Breaking
Chapter 4
The Taisho family house looked as regal as ever, not one blade of grass seemed to be out of place on the neatly manicured lawn. All was quiet for an instant after we got out of the car, then the front door was thrown open by a boisterous, grinning taiyoukai.
“HARRISON FIDGET! WHERE IS THAT OLD TOMCAT?” burst out the Inu no Taisho, brushing past his sons to capture his old friend in a warm embrace.
“Jeez, nice to see you too, Dad,” said InuYasha, feeling ignored.
“Ah sorry my boy, just excited to see an old fiend.”
“Don't you mean 'friend?'” said Fidget, batting his eyelashes coyly.
“Friend, fiend, both apply equally to you, my dear feline. I kept watching the news in fear of seeing your face in a mugshot for trying to join the Mile High Club on the way here.”
Edging closer to Sesshoumaru, Fidget smiled. “The thought did cross my mind, but the rest of me wasn't fully, ah, aroused until I landed and met this gorgeous hunk you call your eldest son.” He continued on, linking arms with Sesshoumaru knowing full well the younger taiyoukai could only growl in his father's presence. “Really, Taisho-san, I'm proud of you. He's stunning.”
That was all I could take. I burst, laughing until tears poured down my face. Yes I'm surely going to suffer a vicious beating from Sesshoumaru before too long as a result, but watching the normally stoic inu youkai squirm was just too fucking funny.
It wasn't until I calmed down that I noticed everyone had gone inside. Everyone that is, except Harrison Fidget. He was gazing at me in that same odd way, his expression trapped between wistfulness and something else I couldn't name.
He smiled sadly. “You laugh just like your father used to,” he murmured.
I was stunned. “You knew my father?”
“Knew, and loved. Our time together was brief, but we always stayed in touch. Hajime was a true friend, and I loved him dearly.”
The words flew out of my mouth before I could stop them. “But my father liked women! He wasn't...wasn't...oh Kami, I sound like a homophobe...which I'm NOT, don't get me wrong...but my father just wasn't... ” I broke off, sputtering.
The neko smiled wryly. “Gay? No, he wasn't. He just happened to fall in love with a man. To make a long story short, our physical relationship ended when he met your mother but like I said before we stayed friends. Not a lot of drama, pretty cut-and-dry really,” he said.
“Is that why you're here, then? Because of my father?”
“I'm here as a favor to Taisho-san. I had no inkling I'd have another personal connection until I saw you. Your eyes were my first clue, not many men running around with natural Liz Taylor-style peepers after all. But as soon as I felt the curse on your hand I realized who you had to be. Face it, kiddo. This is fate.”
