A Night to Remember

A/N: Oh my god! I can’t believe I finished this chapter! Sorry it took so long to update. I was in Chicago for Wizard’s World Chicago working a con for my boss. If anyone wants to know, I was working the Wizard’s Wagon Booth as Kanda for two days ^-^ The Lavi there was my Sesshomaru ^-^ Anyway, here is the next chapter. I’m going to go ahead and right chapter five, but it might not be up till tomorrow so bwa! Alright, here you go.

Chapter four: Protector

Kagome stood in front of Hojo’s house, a defeated look on her face. She really didn’t want to be there at the moment. She had tests to study for and she actually had some papers to write. But her friends continued to bother her till she finally showed up. And from what she was told, Tai showed up twice more before Eri told him if he showed up once more she was going to take a text book and shove it so far up his ass he would see words behind his eyelids. She didn’t know why her friends wanted her to go to this party so much. After all, they knew that Kagome hated parties. And why the formal dress? It made no sense to her.

“How long are you going to stand there?” Eri demanded.

Kagome sighed. “Until you actually let me go.” It was like she had a leash around her neck stopping her from running away.

Her friend just shook her head. “You owe Hojo this much Kagome. Now get your butt in there before I push you in there.”

Once more the raven girl sighed as she opened the door. As soon as the door opened, she was met with blasting music, the smell of smoke, and alcohol being passed around. To say that Kagome was shocked was an understatement. What kind of party was Hojo having? Her face drained itself of all its color and instantly she turned around. “Fuck this.” Kagome said loud enough of Eri to hear. “I don’t want to be here at all. I don’t know what kind of guy Hojo has become, but I’m not going to stay here to find out.”

Eri pushed her into the mess called a party. “Oh no. It’s probably Hojo’s roommate that did all this. Anyway, just go in and talk to the guy. He’s looking forward to seeing you.”

“Is that two people having sex in the corner?!” Kagome gasped, her eyes were wide as dinner plates. Even her best friend turned red. Sure enough, Hojo’s roommate, a blonde haired guy named Toshi, was indeed having sex with a girl in the corner of the room. No one else seemed to mind though. “No, no, no. I’m out of here.” Kagome pushed her way past her friend only to be stopped once more as someone grabbed her arm in a firm grip.

“I said I’m not staying!” She yelled this time. Quickly turning around to actually hit Eri, she was stopped by stunning sunset eyes.

“I never said you were.” Sesshomaru said as he dragged Kagome out of the house. His ears left like they were bleeding and his senses were shot from the smoke, smells and everything else. Why he actually showed up at that party per her friend’s request, he did not know. Nor would he be listing to any more of their insane ideas.

“Se…Sesshomaru?” Kagome gasped as they were once more outside. He wore black slacks, a tight shirt and an over shirt to top it off. His hair was tied back in a high pony tail and the only thing Kagome could think of was he looked like a god. That was till she realized what happened. “Why were you in there?”

“Your friends decided to ask me to show up. Seeing that you were going, I decided that maybe it wouldn’t be so bad. My mistake. You seemed uncomfortable yourself Kagome.”

Kagome sighed once more, taking her arm back from the Taiyoukai. “I didn’t want to go in the first place. Eri had me by a leash and dragged me there.”

Sesshomaru blinked for a moment, imagining her in a collar and a leash. Instantly the image of her lying on his bed, wearing nothing but shackles and a collar, begging him to take her, invaded his mind.

“Um… Sesshomaru? Are you okay?” Kagome asked, confused by the look on his face.

Sesshomaru quickly snapped out of it and looked at her, a small smile on his face. “This Sesshomaru is fine.”

Kagome let out a small gasp, confusing the demon lord. “Oh my god! You do have other emotions Sesshomaru! You can smile and not be an ass.”

He shook his head. “I see you acquired more of that fowl language my brother taught you.”

Instantly the girl stuck her tongue out. “Oh you hush. Anyway, when did you start liking humans? If I recall, you used to hate humans. But then again you had Rin around so I guess you didn’t hate humans that much.”

He watched her for a moment before stopping at the small pond of the school campus. “Rin was an acceptation back then. She was my ward and thus was under my protection.”

Kagome smiled and sat down on the grass. “I find it kind of funny. Back then we ran into each other so much. You tried to kill me so many times and never did.” A small sigh escaped her lips. “Though, I don’t think you were trying very hard. If you really were trying to kill me, you would have succeeded.”

Sesshomaru looked down at her for a moment before looking out at the pond. “You are correct Kagome. You may have gotten in the way many times, but I found no reason to kill you.”

Kagome continued to smile softly as she also looked out at the still water. “You changed a lot compared to the past.”

“Kagome!” A girl screamed from behind. “Kagome!”

The girl stood and turned, seeing both Ayumi and Yuka. “Hey guys, what’s up?”

Both the girls stopped, trying to catch their breaths. “Eri is missing.” Yuka gasped.

“Tai came asking for you again and she chased them off. But we haven’t seen her ever sense then.” Ayumi finished. “We thought that maybe she went to find you.”

Kagome shook her head. “I haven’t seen her sense Sesshomaru and I left the party. Let’s go look for her in groups. You two go look at the south part of campus and Sesshomaru and I will go north.”

She took off running, Sesshomaru right next to her. “Why did you volunteer me to help you?” He asked her.

“Eri is my best friend and I can’t find her on my own. Your sense of smell is also better then mine.”

Sesshomaru stopped and glared at her. “I maybe an Inu youkai, but this Sesshomaru is not a hunting dog. Do not treat me as such.”

Kagome turned around and glared at him back. “I’m not trying to insult you Sesshomaru, I’m asking for your help on finding my friend. I don’t trust Tai. He’s been obsessing over me ever sense he saw me. And you don’t even trust him. If Eri is alone with him, who knows what will happen.”

Sesshomaru could sense her distress and instantly it pulled at him. “Fine.” He closed his eyes and widened his senses. He could sense every living being on the campus. That’s when he could smell it in the wind. “There’s blood in the air.” He whispered.

Her faced turned a deathly pale. “Where Sesshomaru…?” Her voice was barely heard.

Sesshomaru grabbed her around the waist and hosted him over his shoulder. “It’s faster if I run.” He took off west, running as fast as he could.

Kagome closed her eyes, trying to hold back her distress. She prayed to the kami’s that her friend was alright. She felt Sesshomaru stopped and instantly dread filled her very soul. As Sesshomaru set her down, her eyes became wide and a scream escaped her mouth.

Sesshomaru twitched slightly before covering her mouth. “Hush Kagome, you will have time to greave later. We must find out who did this.”

Kagome shook her head, tears falling rapidly from her face. Eri’s hands and feet were bound while a gag silenced her. From her neck all the way to her stomach, a large gash was formed, her blood soaking up the grass. Tears ran form the girl’s face as if she was still in pain.

“Oh god no…” Kagome cried, quickly turning around and burring her face against Sesshomaru’s chest. Her stomach started to heave, but it was nothing more then dry heaving.

“You will get a hold of yourself miko.” Sesshomaru barked. “Greave for your friend later. Her blood is still fresh which means that whoever did this to her is still nearby.”

Kagome continued to shake her head, the shock still not leaving her.

Anger formed on Sesshomaru’s face as he grabbed Kagome by the fount of her dress. “You have faced death before Miko. You will gather your wits and control yourself. You have seen worse, but to people you did not know. It makes no difference. Now, GET AHOLD OF YOURSELF!”

Kagome blinked up at him, her shock written all over her. “Se…Sesshomaru…?”

The taiyoukai let her go. “That is better. We know who did this, now; use your miko powers to find his demonic aura.”

The raven haired girl gave a small nod. She needed to concentrate. But the vision of her friend who wasn’t even five feet away from her kept going though her mind. “I can’t…” She whispered, tears falling down her face.

“Useless.” Sesshomaru muttered.

Kagome’s eyes instantly snapped open. “Fuck you!” She screamed. “My friend, my best fucking friend is dead Sesshomaru! Just because you don’t have anyone that you care for, or any sentimental feelings yourself, doesn’t mean that everyone is a heartless bastard like you!”

“I couldn’t say it any better myself.” Purred a voice.

Kagome quickly turned around to see Tai standing nearby, a smirk on his lips. “I’m surprised to see you here already. And here I thought I had enough time to hide the body.”

“You bastard!” Kagome screamed. “You’re the one who did this?!”

Tai shrugged. “I am guilty of this crime. She was so annoying. Always getting in my way, stopping me from seeing you. I was getting sick of you avoiding me all the time. First the bar, then with Lord Sesshomaru, and now this pathetic human girl. Well, at least that’s one obstacle out of the way. Maybe I should try killing the lord of the west. Oh wait that’s right; you lost your castle and your lands. To humans might I add? I guess that’s what happens when you lose everything. First your father, then your little ward, and then your younger brother. Oh the mighty have fallen.”

Sesshomaru’s golden eyes narrowed. “Who are you really?”

The silver haired man bowed. “I am Tai from the east. Your father had the pleasure of banishing my people from your lands. We are Inu youkai just like you. But unlike you my dear fallen lord, I never lost my touch for killing humans. All it took was one human girl to get ripped to shreds for you to lose your power, your fame, and your lands. You bring shame to Inu Taisho’s name.”

Sesshomaru brought his hand up, claws dripping with poison. “Cease your words before I rip your tongue out.” He growled dangerously.

Kagome cursed under her breath for not having her arrows and never practicing her miko powers. Without her arrows she was completely useless.

Tai laughed. “You cannot kill me oh fallen lord. I don’t want you anyways, just the girl next to you. Tell me my dear hime; do you like my work on your friend there? Sure you weren’t gone long, but I had my fun with her. How would you like to see you’re other friends like that? I can assure you that it can happen. But you can stop it, just come with me.” Tai reached out to her, a smug look on his face.

Sesshomaru instantly stepped in front of Kagome. “You will not touch her.” He growled once more. His hand ached for his sword once more.

Tai laughed. “Isn’t that her decision lord Sesshomaru?”

Kagome clutched Sesshomaru’s shirt tightly. She didn’t know what to do. If she went with him, then she was sure to be killed. But if she stayed, her friends would die because of her. She couldn’t let that happen. Kagome already let Eri down. To know that Ayumi or even Yuka was killed because of her decision, she wouldn’t be able to live with herself.”

“Do not even think about it Kagome.” Sesshomaru said, not taking his eyes off Tai. “This Sesshomaru will protect you from him.”

Her eyes went wide at his words. Protect her? Five hundred years ago he tried to kill her. And now he was swearing to protect her? “Sesshomaru?”

Tai once more barked out a laugh. “I wouldn’t rely on him my dear hime. He couldn’t protect his castle, his ward, or even his pathetic half breed brother of his. What makes you believe he can protect you?”

“Stop it!” Kagome screamed. “You’re lying! I know Sesshomaru better then that! Sure he’s a cold hearted bastard at times, but he’s still a living being. I’m sure he did everything he could to protect Rin. I don’t know what happened in the past, but I’m sure he did the same thing for Inuyasha. Don’t you dare go off and saying those things to him! And why are you calling me a Hime? I’m just a girl! Why do you want me so much?!”

Tai smiled at her words. “Why don’t you ask your protector there? Your scent, your power, everything that makes you, you draws in every demon around. Your blood tingles with power. Just being near you makes me want to take you as mine. To pin you down and fuck you till you bleed. To cut your throat while you’re screaming in agony then bathe in it. That is what I crave. You, Kagome, are my hime of blood.”

Sesshomaru watched as the youkai’s eyes bleed red from his excitement. What he said was half way true. Being around Kagome and her scent made him lost his head. Even Sesshomaru wished to show her pleasures like she never experienced before. That’s why he tried to kill her in the past. If he got rid of her, maybe he could think clearly. But he could never get her out of his mind. Her scent, her smile, her kind heart. It made him crave her. But his crave for her was much different from the psychotic demon before them. No, Tai had lost his mind with his desire.

“You’re insane.” Sesshomaru said simply. “For that, I will never hand her over to you.”

“So I guess she’s fine with me slaughtering everyone around her.” Tai smirked. “That’s okay. I have lackeys around here. They know where your two friends’ are right now. With one order, they will die.”

Kagome closed her eyes, trying hard not to start crying again. She wished that her friends where with her now. Sango, Miroku, even Inuyasha and Shippo. They could help her. They could have ran off and saved her friends. Sesshomaru could only save one on time. She would die, Kagome knew this. She would die and never accomplish any of her dreams. “Stand down Sesshomaru.” Kagome whispered.

Sesshomaru tore his eyes from Tai and instantly looked at her. “What?” He whispered.

Kagome stepped around Sesshomaru, her eyes burning fire at Tai. “I’ll go with you Tai, but you must swear that you won’t hurt any of them! It’s me you want right, so leave everyone else alone.”

He smiled and took Kagome into his arms. “Of course. I have what I want; their lives mean nothing to me.”

Kagome quickly turned to Sesshomaru who looked like he was betrayed. “You’ll save me right Sesshomaru?” She asked, tears running down her face. “You’ll make sure that everyone is safe first before coming and saving me right?”

Sesshomaru looked at her and gave a small nod. “I swear it.”

Kagome bowed her head as black smoke surrounded her and instantly she and Tai disappeared leaving a seriously pissed taiyoukai standing there. He would save her. He swore on his father’s grave that he would find her, save her, and rip the throat of the demon who dare touch what was his.
