I Could Bury You For What You've Done.
A/N: Ok, this IS a series of oneshots, but the third and fourth chapter are meant to go together. I just got extremely tired last night writing it, cause I’d been at work alllllll freakin day, and before work I’d had my statistics class, and I’m trying to take care of myself and my son… and work on this stupid divorce. Ladies, stay away from the assholes.
Anyway. On we go.

Chapter Four: I Could Bury You For What You’ve Done.
Inuyasha leapt up to the top of the well, blinking at the familiar, deep, purple sky. He sighed at the wreckage of the future, but the hanyou brightened up a little at the sight of the dirty Jeep pulling up. The woman in the driver’s seat was identical to his wife; in fact, she WAS his wife, his Kagome, only centuries older. The Jeep pulled to a stop right in front of him, and the woman shut off the ignition and jumped out. She approached Inuyasha, her hands in her jeans pockets. “What’s going on?” she asked him.
He walked toward her, his face pleading. She instantly knew something was wrong. “Kimi,” he breathed, “I need your help.” He hugged her, and she blinked in surprise. She pulled back, staring up into his worried golden eyes. “Inuyasha, what happened?”
“Do you remember when you were pregnant with Kenji?” he asked her. She nodded vigorously. “I went to take a trip to Thailand with Sango and Miroku. Shippo was doing his internship in Kyoto and staying with your mother – er, Mrs. Higurashi. Anyway, that left you and Moriko home alone. When we got back from our trip a week later, you and Moriko were missing. Where did you go?”
Kimi’s lip parted in a small gasp as she realized what he was talking about. “Um… There was a Calling… it came from the old feudal era, around the time we met. I think we’d been tracking Naraku for a year… It was Sesshomaru, a trap laid out for me. He didn’t expect me to have Moriko with me, and he sure as hell didn’t expect me to be pregnant. You better run; if I remember correctly, your younger self saved me, and Moriko got snatched by Naraku.” She shook her head. “Hurry.”
He backed away and dove into the well, the purple light flashing as he disappeared into another time. Kimi grinned, bit her lower lip, and jumped back in the Jeep, driving off.

It was strange to be back in the feudal era. He couldn’t move as quickly in these modern clothes, these blue jeans he wore so that he could fit in. But he still made it to the village where he knew everyone would be at. He burst into the small hut they shared with Kaede whenever they were there, and all their old versions jumped at the sight of him. Younger Sango, younger Miroku, younger Shippo, younger Kagome… Inuyasha stopped and stared at his own younger self, who was standing beside his pregnant wife. She brightened when she saw him.
“Inuyasha!” she cried out, trying to stand. He rushed to her, and both he and his younger self helped her to her feet. She wrapped her arms around his neck and squeezed, smiling excitedly. “Oh, we need to go help Moriko! It was -”
“A trap laid out by Sesshomaru,” he finished for her. She gave him a confused look. “And Naraku kidnapped Moriko. I know,” he told her with a grin at her expression. “Kimi told me what happened.”
She gave him a look that plainly said ‘We’ll need to talk later’ and waddled toward the door. “C’mon, let’s go,” she told him. “We need to go get our daughter.”
“Whoa!” That was Inuyasha crying out, and he stared at the couple, then looked over at the younger Kagome, who blushed a little. “We have a DAUGHTER?”
Older Kagome nodded, looking at him as though he were retarded. “Yea,” she shot back smartly, “and this is your son. Nice ta meet ya.” She pointed at her protruding belly to make her point. “Why the hell do you think Inuyasha would be coming here for me?” She rolled her eyes. “I swear, sometimes you can be such a baka!”
“Hey!” both Inuyasha’s cried out right then. Her husband gave her a hurt look. She made a face at him and grabbed the front of his t-shirt. “Oh, c’mon. I’m 8-months-pregnant, hormonal as hell, and worried about my daughter. Now… Get moving, mister!” She pointed at the door of the hut, and he finally got her point. Time was of the essence. She climbed carefully onto her husband’s back, and they zipped into the forest. Daylight was dawning, and it was much easier for Kagome to see through the trees.
They made it to Naraku’s castle shortly before noon. Inuyasha let Kagome off his back, and they slowly made their way into the fortress. Kagome, with her Kami strength, broke the steel door in two, and Inuyasha raced through the place, searching for Moriko.
They walked into a gruesome sight. Naraku had the young half-goddess pinned beneath him, and she was struggling against him, crying out in terror. Inuyasha’s eyes widened when he realized that they were stark naked, and his mouth gaped in horror when he saw Naraku lick the girl’s left cheek hungrily. “Oi!” he roared, and Kagome could feel the rage rolling off of him. She backed up a step, for once a little fearful of her husband. Naraku turned and saw the two of them standing there, and he actually GRINNED. “Oh,” he said, “Inuyasha. Kagome. You two are just in time for the show. It’s about to begin.”
Kagome realized what he meant, that he hadn’t actually raped Moriko yet… but he was about to.
However, Inuyasha was a little more dense than his wife. “You bastard,” he growled right before he dove at the other hanyou, and he basically tore the devil apart. Moriko scrambled out from under them, and she ran, her face and hair soaked in tears, to her mother’s open, comforting arms. Kagome held her child and conjured clothing for her, the least she could do.
After a few punches, Naraku laughed. He misted away, and Inuyasha slammed his palms angrily into the stone wall that was left. He cried out in pain, and his wife watched him heave sobs in his despair. He turned, and Kagome clutched Moriko closer to her. The goddess’s heart broke at the look in her husband’s eyes. He was… disappointed. Despondent. Defeated.

A week later, they had Moriko home with them once again, and life was attempting to return to normal. It was night, and the half-goddess girl was upstairs, studying in her bedroom. Sango and Miroku had retired for the night, and Shippo still wasn’t back from the Higurashi’s. It was just Kagome and Inuyasha sitting at the dining room table, silent and awkward still.
Kagome looked at her mate. “It wasn’t your fault,” she told him quietly. He looked up at her, his golden eyes meeting up with her bright blue ones. It was the first time either of them had mentioned it since they had returned, and, somehow, Inuyasha wasn’t surprised that she knew what he was feeling. They had become so close in recent years that it wasn’t like they were mate and mate or husband and wife anymore; they were one mind, one beating heart, one set of breathing, living lungs.
They were a force to be reckoned with.
Inuyasha watched Kagome, his gaze sure and steady, and, suddenly, she saw them shine and glisten. Her lips parted and a small gasp left them when she realized that he was crying, something she had only seen him do once before in their relationship. And, for the first time, he didn’t hide his shame. Kagome wasn’t even sure he felt shame at shedding tears before her anymore; he had grown and matured so much in these past years.
She stood and came to stand beside him. He still sat in the chair, crying for a moment; then he turned and wrapped his arms around her waist, squeezing Kagome and her large belly close to him. He stood, his hands clawing their way up from her thin waist to her neck, and he held her. She returned the favor, her face emotionless.
Inuyasha sobbed into her neck. “I should have – should have protected you!” he cried. “I should have – have been there! I can’t – I can’t forgive myself.”
Kagome wrapped her arms around his broad frame and squeezed him back, smiling into his shoulder. “But I already have.”
She held him until there were no more tears for him to cry.

A/N: I just love that he’s becoming more mature, don’t you? Seriously, guys, it’s not unmanly for you to cry. Especially in front of women. Other than a few exceptions, we totally dig that kind of thing. *wink, wink*
