Mockingbird

The true Setsuna rested against the wall for support. She tried to catch her breath. Yuna went to get the nurses. InuYasha walked over to her and drew his sword. “What the hell is going on?”

“My adviser, Sherisa, was using me. I should never have let her live after she saw my mortal night but I am too soft.”

“Are you really InuYasha’s sister?” Kagome asked.

“Yes, I am.”

“I heard your voice telling me what to do. How?”

“I learned that from my one true friend, Yuna’s mother.” The gang looked at Yuna who, in turn looked at Setsuna.

“My . . . My mother?”

“I knew her well before you were born. She was there for me when I was born and I was there for her when you were born.”

“What happened to her?”

“She died from complications with birth of your brother.”

“Why did you never tell me Master?”

“I told you to stop calling me that! I hate being called that. You are like family to me!”

“Family doesn’t lie to each other.”

“Yuna,” Yuna broke down crying as Setsuna stood wobbly and walked the best she could toward her.

“GET AWAY FROM ME!!!” Yuna ran out of the room and down the hall. The gang stood in silence as the scene took place before them. Setsuna’s face seemed callous yet her eyes shined with unshed tears.

“I am sorry for the uncomfortable situation. My job as a host should not interfere with my personal problems.”

“Shouldn’t you go check on her?”

“Please do not worry yourselves in the affairs of others.”

“Well apparently we are family.”

“So? I didn’t know I had family until about 10 days ago that’s when I sent Yuna to look for you. I wanted to see if you did survive the priestess.”

“So why not look for me yourself?”

“I . . . I was afraid.”

“Afraid of what?”

“You all must be tired. I will go get your rooms prepared.”

“You are avoiding the question.”

“Come I will show you your rooms.” She walked out the door followed a frustrated InuYasha, a tired Sango, an exhausted monk, a sleepy Shippo, and a worried Kagome. Setsuna showed the gang their rooms. Kagome slept across from InuYasha and Shippo slept in her room. Sango slept across from Miroku and Kirara slept in her room. The guys’ rooms were connected, as were the girls. “Stay as long as you wish. Breakfast will be served when you wake. There is a rope in each room. Give it a tug if you need anything. Good night.”
