Chapter 3- Beauty of the heart (part 1)
“Mama,” a soft child like voice whispered, “Mommy, my head hurts.” The pain of a headache is intense sometimes. They pound and throb, scream and tear at the inside of your head. Sometimes it even feels like your eyes will pop out if it doesn’t stop. Sometimes they even occur with nausea and sensitiveness to light. They are awful and they suck. Shippo woke with a headache like this. It hurt like all get out. To him it felt like a horse had kicked him in the head. He wanted to scream and shout, tell the world of his pain. He wanted to cradle his head in his hands and weep out his agony. But all he really wanted was Kagome. She would sooth the pain and make it go away. She would cradle him in her arms and coo at him, lulling him into a peaceful sleep.
“I’m right here sweetie,” she said calmly and with a tender undertone that was specifically reserved for him. “Were does it hurt?” She question and watched as he held his whole head in his hands. She figured that the vitz had caused the headache and she felt sorry for him. He looked to be in a lot of pain and uncomfortable. She moved to cradle him in her arms. Leaning down close, she placed several kisses on the crown of his forehead. He relaxed into her hold. Turning around so that his face was looking into hers, he snuggled in deep, trying to gain her warmth and her soothing scent. She cursed herself for letting him be in so much pain. She also cursed Chishou for not telling her he would be in it. If Shippo had brain damage from this, she was going to give Chishou a piece of her mind and maybe even a good butt kicking. Though she doubted she could hurt him, it was still worth a try.
She was being ridiculous really. A headache doesn’t give people brain damage but she worried. She was now his mother after all. Even if he wasn’t blood related to her she loved him just the same. She would protect him just the same. And she promised to be there for him, always. She loved him so much. She didn’t know what she would do if she lost him or he wasn’t a part of her life. She wanted to remedy his pain immediately. Her voice might hurt his head a bit but she needed to tell him so he wouldn’t get distressed. “Shippo,” she said and waited for him to acknowledge her. He nodded to tell her he heard what she said and she continued, “I’m going to go get you something for the pain. I’ll be over by my bag and then I will be right back.”
He stayed still and with his eyes closed. It hurt his head to hear any sort of noise. He wanted to burry himself into the ground so that there was just silence. He wanted the headache to end, to just go away. It hurt so much. He had never experienced something so painful in his life. Now that he truly knew what pain was he didn’t want it? He was just glad that he had his mommy; she knew what to do in these situations.
Kagome watched Shippo carefully. It hurt her to see him like this. He was always so energetic and rambunctious. To see him not his norm was different and heart breaking. Her eyes shifted back and forth trying to find her yellow bag. It was somewhere in the clearing and once she found it; she knew exactly what to give him to make all the pain go away. It would be gone soon enough. Now all she needed to do was find the Tylenol.
She could see that the others were awakening. It wouldn’t be long till Inuyasha started his ranting and raving on where his breakfast was. She shook her head at the half demon. She loved him dearly but sometimes he could be a complete ass. Sango seemed to be just on the verge of opening her eyes. So at least she would have some help. Miroku was still in a doze. It would most likely be awhile until he was up and going. She loved her friends. They were amazing people and all unique. She had never met any one like them before she had fallen into the well. It was nice to see something different. And that’s exactly what she loved about this time. It was different. A smile graced her face when she heard her best friend/sister groan. Sango was not a morning person.
Sango could see light as it drifted through her closed eye lids. She could hear as her friends move around her. Miroku was definitely still asleep. She could feel that he hadn’t moved since they first picked a spot to sleep in. Her hand had pulled away from him only recently as she warmed her fingers under her body. It had been nippy last night. She could still feel the bite of cold air as the wind blew past her face. It wasn’t going to be as warm as all the other days. Fall was approaching. Soon enough it would get cold and they would have to find shelter. She didn’t mind but she loved sleeping underneath the stars. There was something about them. They were so magical, so untouchable. They were mystifying and so marvelous. She wondered how they were made, what they were made of, and how many there really were? It was impossible to count them all, there was just no way. She could never give up such a magical thing. She was drawn to it, just like she was drawn to Miroku… Her thoughts quickly changed when she heard rustling. It sounded a lot like Kagome moving things around in her bag, which indeed she was. She wondered what she was getting and opened her eyes to see.
Kagome was shifting through everything in her bag. She couldn’t find the stupid Tylenol any where? She had no clue where she could have left it either? She was so mad at herself because the minute Shippo was in need of it, she didn’t have it. Not to mention she probably left it at her house back in the future. Oh, how she wanted to hit herself. Just take a hammer and nail herself in the head a couple of times. She was throwing things from her bag, that where in the way, out. She was trying desperately to find the medicine. She really needed it for Shippo at the moment.
Sango could see her friend’s desperation and wondered what could have made her that way. She looked around the clearing but couldn’t really find anything. She picked her head off the ground and then her body. She was now able to see the whole clearing a little better. She didn’t see anything really out of place except that Inuyasha seemed to still be asleep. She notice Shippo but didn’t think anything of his position. She never noticed as he held his head in his hands or the tier that slipped from his closed eyes. She frowned at her friend. She couldn’t find anything that could make her so desperate. “Kagome?” she said softly and groggily. Kagome looked over her shoulder but didn’t say anything to her friend. She needed to find that medicine. “Kagome, what’s wrong?” Sango asked again. She was worried and wondered what was going on. She had never seen her best friend like this before, it was just too odd.
“Sango do you remember where I put the Tylenol?” She questioned Sango without even gracing her with a glance. She was to busy with trying to find the medicine that she just didn’t bother. She was to the bottom of her bag now and yet she still couldn’t find it.
Sango cocked her head to the side as she thought. She couldn’t remember what Tylenol was and it was bugging her. When she remembered that it was a pain killer from Kagome’s time she tried to remember what had happened to it. She had a bad feeling that they used it all already. She frowned at the ground in thought while Kagome still scrimmaged through her bag. She didn’t really think that they had anymore and she voiced what she thought, “Kagome, I think we ran out. But try looking in your front pockets maybe it’s in there.” Kagome nodded her agreement before opening all of the front pockets.
She couldn’t believe that they might be out. They had a full bottle the last time she looked. How could they have used it all already? There was just no way? She was on her second pocket when she heard rattling. She had found it. She smiled at the bottle while she pulled it out of her bag. Thank goodness she found it.
Sango saw her friend pull the bottle out of the bag. She was glad she found it. If she would have kept up what she was doing, she would have personally ripped the bag apart just so she could help her find it. She hated to see people in desperation; there was just something about it that disturbed her. She picked herself from the ground before heading towards Kagome. She wanted to know what she needed it for so badly anyway.
Kagome saw as Sango approached her. She had a confused look on her face and she looked hopeful that Kagome would tell her what was going on. Kagome just smiled at her. She was so glad that she had found the Tylenol bottle. If she wouldn’t have, she would be pulling out her hair right about now. She moved to get up from her spot so she could talk.
Sango saw the smile that lit up her friends face. She was happy that she was happy but she wanted to know what had made her so upset earlier. She watched Kagome rise from her spot and waited for her to start on her explanation.
“I’m sorry for worrying you Sango, Shippo has a headache and he is in pain. I was just frustrated and I really wanted to get the Tylenol. I knew it would help him. Otherwise I would not know what else to do.” She saw Sango nod her agreement. She thanked Sango for being on her side before walking away. She needed to get the medicine to Shippo.
Sango smiled at her friends retreating form. She was such a good mother, even if she was only 15. She hoped one day she would be the exact same way. She wanted to be a mother, oh, how she wanted to be one. One day soon she would be, one day soon. She walked to Kagome’s bag with a grin on her face. She could defiantly learn from her friend and was most certainly going to. She grabbed what was left of the ramen before heading over to the fire pit. There was no longer a fire going but there were still some smoldering ambers. She would start a fire from there then she could start breakfast. Now only if she could find some suitable fire wood?
Kagome was already on her way over to Shippo. He seemed to be in more pain then when she had left his side. This was so hard for her; she had never dealt with this before. She had Souta but he could do it on his own. There was no ‘big sister help me’ pleas, there was just ‘I got it’ and ‘don’t worry I’ll be fine.’ Maybe if she would have taken a babysitting course it would be easier. Anything to help her right then, hell she would even ask Inuyasha.
She was almost to his side when she remembered something. Water. He would need it to take the pill down. It was hard to take it with only saliva and she didn’t want him to work any more than had to. Since noticing this she had turned around and was heading back to her bag. She could see that Sango had taken the ramen to start breakfast with. She smiled at her friends actions, she was such a big help sometimes and when she was done with Shippo she would thank her till she got tired of it. Kagome also saw that there really wasn’t a fire anymore, just some embers that were left over from last night. Sango was going to have to get more wood. Her smile widened even more. Sango would find a hot spring for them and then they could talk. Sango always enjoyed talking with her. She would talk about Miroku, her brother, what she was going to do once Naraku was dead, and so much more. She was grateful to her companion; she was most defiantly going to have to thank her properly.
Sango was making her way into the forest. She needed to get some fire wood and maybe while she was out she could find a hot spring. Even though it would mainly be used so that she could talk to Kagome, she also knew that it could help remedy a headache. She recalled when she was little and had a headache, her father telling her to take a bath. At first she thought it to be absurd and ridiculous, that a bath couldn’t help with a headache. But once she had taken it, she had immediately felt better. She guessed that it was the warmth that released the tension that had been built up inside her head. It wasn’t an instant relief but it helped. She would suggest this to Kagome and maybe even get a little alone time with her friend as well. She had something she needed to ask and talk to her about. She needed to get things off of her chest and the only person who she could confine in was Kagome.
She moved through the thick underbrush picking up random sticks that looked to be good for burning. All she really needed to do was find some wood. They didn’t need a lot since they should be moving out. They only needed enough to get the food cooked and warm a few cold and groggy bodies. Otherwise there was nothing else they would need it for. She wondered why they where heading out so soon? Kagome hadn’t sensed any jewel shards in the immediate area so what was the big hurry? She understood that Inuyasha wanted revenge on the foul half demon but way couldn’t they just take a day or two to rest and rejuvenate their bodies. It seemed Shippo needed it and so did Miroku. It was strange for Miroku to sleep in. He was always alert and ready for anything and he was always up before she was. Maybe they did need to head out. They seemed to becoming lazy, she never thought she would think this but maybe Inuyasha was right, they needed to get a move on.
She was still looking for a hot spring but hadn’t found one quite yet. She had enough sticks and she could head back to the camp but she wanted to find a spring. She had no clue where she was at but she knew that she wasn’t to far from the camp. She was moving swiftly, if she was gone to long one of her companions would come looking for her. She didn’t want to take Kagome away from Shippo so she needed to hurry.
It wasn’t long until she could hear the subtle sounds of gurgling water. She could see steam as it seeped through the trees. She walked in the direction and when she got to her destination she was awestruck. It was absolutely gorgeous and not to mention huge. They would most definitely enjoy their time in the spring. She smiled at it before turning away. Now it was time for breakfast.
Kagome had gotten the water and given the pill to Shippo. She was getting worried. Sango was not back yet and the boys where still not awake. This is what perturbed her. They were always up before the women. She wondered if, whatever Chishou did to them, was still in place. And if there was some of it still on them, why hadn’t he taken it off. He was gone, wasn’t he? The thought was quickly distinguished when Sango walked into the clearing. Kagome was so relieved to see that her friend was okay. She was about to go after her.
Sango wore a gigantic smile as she made her way over to her friend. She had found a hot spring and she was going to share her success with her friend. “Kagome, guess what?”
Kagome looked up at her friend and smiled back. She was just so glad to see her return unharmed. “What is it Sango. Is everything alright?” She questioned. She hoped that there was nothing wrong she didn’t think she could handle anything right about then.
“No, No, I’m sorry if I worried you. Nothing is wrong and I found us a hot spring.” She said excitedly. She watched as Kagome’s face lit up at the thought of being able to relax.
“That’s good I was worried that you wouldn’t find one and we would have to wait.”
“Oh but I did. Now we will get some time to ourselves.” Kagome understood and waited for Sango to keep going. There was something else she wanted to say, “Also, Kagome, I recalled while I was taking a walk that a bath helps with relieving headaches.” Kagome wanted to smack herself, she knew that but how come she didn’t remember it. She guessed that she was just too concerned about her adopted son that she didn’t have time to remember. Well at least Sango had.
“Thank you Sango. I knew that but I just didn’t think about it. You’re such a life saver.” Sango’s smile grew to the point of touching her ears. She was happy that she was useful.
“Don’t worry about it Kagome, It’s the least I could have done.” She paused as she thought about something. Why was it the boy’s where still not up? “Kagome,” She wanted to know what her friend thought, “Why is it that the boys are still not up?” Apparently Kagome didn’t know either since she frowned at her.
“I don’t know Sango, Do you have any idea?” Kagome questioned. She was still trying to keep her voice low so that Shippo could recover. And Sango seemed to take the hint. She had no clue why the boys still hadn’t awakened. She wondered if it was still something Chishou did, but she thought that he had gone by now. Why would he still have them under if he was gone?
“I don’t have an idea. Maybe they are just tired.” Kagome would go with it, maybe they were. But she had a feeling that it wasn’t that. “Well I’m going to go start breakfast. You know Inuyasha will be up with the smell of ramen. And Miroku I would find the same.” The girls giggled at the thought. That should wake them up. The prospect of food always wakes a guy up.
“So where is the hot spring at?” Kagome asked curiously. She had been wondering where her friend had been at for the long expanse of time away from the camp. “And is it big?”
Sango smiled from where she was at. Kagome was always so curious. “Well, it’s not to far away but it is a good distance. And you can not believe how large it is.” She had the fire started and was working on getting the water to a boil. She had all the ramen ready and was just waiting to see if the boys would wake.
Inuyasha could smell the ramen already. His ears twitched on the top of his head as his hearing became more acute. For some odd reason he was very relaxed. He had no idea why but it had been a long time since he had been this way. Not since his mother was alive. He was always alert. He was always on the look out for potential threats to the people who he called his pack. Nothing would harm them, nothing. But it was odd, how was it he got that way? But did it really matter, he was hungry and ramen was starting to smell really, really good. His body was released from the hold and he swiftly jumped to the ground heading for the thing he wanted most, his stomach wanted most, ramen.
Miroku as well was awakening but not from the ramen. It felt like his body had been released from some sort of hold. Like there was someone who was controlling his sleeping patterns. He highly doubted it, no one could get past his senses, or at least he thought. He smelled the ramen from where he sat. It smelled really good and he was actually feeling hungry. His eyes opened to see his surroundings. He saw Sango and smiled. He loved her with all of his heart. He wanted to be with her, to love her, to have kids with her. She was sitting by the fire as she made their breakfast. She was so beautiful in his eyes and her doing the simple chore of making breakfast made his heart leap with happiness. She would be an amazing wife and mother. His stomach growled to tell him it was hungry. He obeyed the pull and rose from his spot to head over to the fire.
Kagome looked up to see that the boys were awake. She was happy to know they were okay. Food really does do the trick. Miroku still looked to be in a daze as he walked up behind Sango. He stood there just looking down at her with a goofy grin before moving to her side to sit. Inuyasha was doing the same but looked much more awake. Kagome smiled at her friends before turning her attention back to the kit in her arms. She had sat on her sleeping bag the whole time, never once moving. He looked to be much more relaxed so she figured it wouldn’t hurt for her to move to where her friends were at. She rose from her spot a little clumsily before heading to the roaring fire.
Shippo felt his mother move. His head didn’t hurt quite as much but there was still a dull thumping that was just annoying. He could feel that there was a fire behind his eyes. They hurt and he just wanted to sleep it off. He smelled the ramen but it only repulsed him. He was not hungry at the moment and the thought of food only made him feel sick. At least he was with his mommy. Her scent helped lull him into sleep. He clung to her shirt as she moved to be by the fire. His face was buried between her breasts as he dug himself deeper into her hold. He only wanted his mama.
The others watched Kagome approach. Sango only smiled at her motherly friend. Miroku was just too tired to care. He was sipping at his tea trying his hardest to awaken fully. Inuyasha growled low in his throat at the kit for being so close to his female, but held back his comments so that he wouldn’t get sat.
Shippo heard the growl that came from Inuyasha. He looked out towards the others before digging his face back into Kagome’s chest.
Sango’s smile grew even wider at the kits antics. He was definitely a mama’s boy. She knew he would be very clingy to her, especially since he was hurting and anxious. She knew a little bit about children. She knew that they craved comfort from their mothers when they were hurt or anxious. She knew they would cling to them and sometimes even go so far as throw a fit just to be in their presence. It was cute really but she knew also that Kagome would get a little overwhelmed. It was hard being a parent but it was one of the most memorable of situations for an adult to go through.
Kagome had a feeling that Shippo was not going to leave her side. He had clung to her the whole while and yet he still didn’t want to move away from her. She was a bit overwhelmed but she could handle it. She remembered when Souta was little, him clinging to her mother. Sometimes he wouldn’t let her go for days and others it would only be hours. She knew that children craved to have that solid comfort that a mother or father could give. Hell, sometimes she would even crave her mother’s presence right then and there. Just to know that there was someone there is always nice and she knew that this comfort was what Shippo wanted. She would not move away from him. She would hold him for as long as he needed to be held or longer if need be.
“So is everyone hungry?” Sango asked. The silence was getting to her she needed to hear something.
“Shut up, stupid and just cook the Ramen. I’m starving.” Inuyasha grumbled. He hated when people made small talk. What was the point any way?
Kagome was angered by the half demon. Why was it he had to be mean? Sango was only trying help. “Inuyasha, you don’t have to be mean. Sango was only trying to wake everyone up and maybe even get a little conversation going.”
Inuyasha ‘keh’d’ at her and rolled his eyes. “Who needs it? Let’s just eat, and go. How does that sound.” He was rubbing her the wrong way; he was defiantly going to get it.
“Don’t worry about it Kagome. I know Inuyasha now to be an ass as it is.” Every one except Shippo and Inuyasha laughed.
“I know Sango,” she said in-between giggles, “But he doesn’t have to be so rude either.” They were all coming down from there spots on cloud nine. Miroku seemed to be more awake now and looking up to a challenge. Shippo was frowning into Kagome’s chest apparently still hurting. Inuyasha was still miffed at what Sango said and was not about to let her get away with it.
“Shut up wench, no one cares what you think.”
“INUYASHA!” Kagome screamed. “SIT.”
The half demon tumbled down to the ground below. Another round of laughing was in order as Inuyasha’s face dug into the ground two and a half inches. It was just too funny to see the invisible half demon being rendered helpless by a mere human woman.
Kagome was fuming at him. How could he? She glared daggers at his back while the others laughed. Shippo wasn’t taking it well either. The noise hurt his head as he buried it even further into his mother’s body. Couldn’t they keep quit for a minute?
The water was to a boil and the half demon was still stuck in the ground. They had five cups of ramen ready as they poured the water in. Inuyasha was still digging himself out of the ground while the other began to eat. Kagome was holding on to Shippo’s as she tried to coax him away from her body so he could eat. Shippo merely shook his head in a disagreeing manor before digging himself deeper into his mothers comforting hold. “Shippo,” She called to him softly. “Shippo you need to eat.” She said hoping he would listen.
“Umhum,” he whimpered. He didn’t want to eat at all. He wanted to be held by Kagome and that’s all. “No” He whined.
“Shippo” she said exasperated. She shifted his body from her chest to her side. He still didn’t want to comply with her. Once she had gotten him situated so that they would both be comfortable he hid his face in her neck.
“No,” He said. Kagome sighed and looked to her friends for guidance. Sango smiled at her friend and Miroku did the same. Really they didn’t know what to do. This was one thing she would have to learn how to do on her own.
Kagome was frowning down at the kit and trying to think about what she could do. She heard a muffled voice and looked up.
Inuyasha had finally broken the spell and was listening to everyone around him. He was thoroughly pissed but if he were to say one more thing he knew he would get sat again. When he noticed Kagome’s dilemma he didn’t hesitate to jump in. She and the stupid child deserved what he would say. “Just leave him Kagome. It’s not like any of us care if the kit goes hungry.”
That did it. She had finally had enough of him. “Inuyasha if you don’t shut your mouth, I will say SIT until you hit the other side of the world.” Kagome rose from her spot with Shippo resting on her hip. “Sango” she said calmly, “Would you go with me to take a bath now. I think I and Shippo both need to relax and I’m sure you do as well.”
Sango nodded then looked to Miroku. “We’ll only be gone for awhile. Watch Inuyasha and don’t come sneaking around after us either.” She said dangerously. If he followed them she was going to give him a piece of her mind and maybe a demon bone boomerang to the head as well. She then looked back to Kagome, “Let me finish up my breakfast then I’ll be right over. I’m almost done.”
Kagome nodded her acceptance then moved to her bag. It was going to be more difficult for her to get everything she needed since she only had one hand to use. Now she knew how Sesshoumaru felt. She had no clue how he did it. She moved gracefully as she tried not to bother a hurting Shippo. She leaned down to get her supplies out. She grabbed five towels, and her bathing essentials. Such as extra clothing, shampoo, conditioner, tooth brush, tooth paste, and more. Sango had begun to use most of what she brought from the future so she had extra of everything. When she had everything she needed she pulled out a large beach bag to carry it all in. Once she was done it was full to the top. She quickly placed it over her arm settling it onto her shoulder. She cradled Shippo into her side and brushed the hair away from his face. Walking over to the side of the clearing she waited for her friend and sister.
Sango finished quickly before moving away from the fire. She stopped to glare down at the two men. With a danger in her tone if they didn’t heed her warning she said, “We’ll be back soon, DON’T come looking for us. Monk that means you. And DON’T cause any havoc while we are gone. I know your not to happy Inuyasha, but don’t go running off either. STAY put.” She turned away and left with her friend.
The two boys watch their companions retreating forms before turning back to the fire. Miroku dug out his stuff before hitting the half demon over the head. “What,” He yelled as he cradled the bump.
“You are sometimes so unwise, Inuyasha. Will you ever learn?” He said then turned back to his cooling breakfast. “You better eat Inuyasha. I recall you telling us we were heading out today.”
Inuyasha let out a keh but did as he was told. Miroku could get scary when it dealt with the two women he loved with all of his heart.
Miroku watched the half demon from the side of his eyes. He smirked into his cup before his mind wondered on the earlier events of the day. Why was it he slept so well? Who had him under their hold? He might never know but it was always good to contemplate.

Against his back he could feel something rough. It was large he could tell that at least and it was solid. What ever it was it wasn’t very comfortable. His eyes opened slightly as he tried to take away the grogginess that he felt. His head hurt like a bitch and he couldn’t remember what happened. He was surrounded by trees. He was in a forest. Where was he? He remembered being on the top of a cliff while looking down upon a man. Memories flooded back into his mind as he remembered what happened. A man named Anubis did this to him. His eyes widened at the prospect of losing to another. He would never ever lose. He would challenge him once more but first he needed to find his ward. He wondered if she was alright. If the toad had taken care of her?
He moved to get up but was suddenly over come with dizziness. Anubis had done a number on him. He couldn’t remember feeling this way since his father had been alive. Never, since he was a pup, had he felt so weak and helpless. The feeling stopped and he was able to get up the rest of the way. He stood on his feet and swayed as his body tried to find its balance. He almost fell back down to the ground before he caught himself on a nearby tree. With every step he became more adapted to walking again. His ward was far off in the distance and it would take him awhile to get there. He could smell her sweet scent as he followed an unnamed path.

Rin was sitting underneath a tree as she picked at her kimono. There was loose strings every where she looked and it was getting on her nerves. She wondered where her lord was. She hadn’t seen or even heard from him in a long time and wanted to know what was going on. She looked up to him as a father and there was no way she was going to loose him. She couldn’t loose him. She sighed her frustration and went to stand. Jaken was over by a stream trying to catch fish for breakfast. He wasn’t having very good luck and with every passing moment she became hungrier. If her lord was here she would already have breakfast. He was so good at catching fish it was inconceivable. Again she sighed as she walked over to her companion.
Ah-Un was close by; she could see his body over in the tall grass. She loved her lords dragon he was just so amazing. She had never met a dragon before she started traveling with her lord. When she first saw him she had been curious as well as fearful. The tales she had heard about them where filled with blood shed. But Ah-Un was different he was a kind, gentle creature. She could never imagine him killing anything. Heck, he wouldn’t even hurt a fly, he seemed to be scared of them more then he wanted to kill them. It was funny actually. He was so big and he looked so mean, but really he was just a big baby. She loved him with all her heart and promised to take care of him. They had become good friends in the last year or so of her traveling along side Lord Sesshoumaru and she would never ever change that.
She moved to stand beside Jaken while he leaned over the water. He hadn’t even notice her approach; he was too focused on catching a fish that he just didn’t bother. She found this funny as she leaned down close to him. Leaning over the river as well she looked down to find herself face to face with a mirror image of herself. It was so clear and calm she couldn’t believe it. She focused more and saw a school of fish just below the surface. They were so close to the bank, which she found odd, but what was she to criticize there resting patterns. She wanted to eat but she found it much more tempting to scare her toad friend. She smiled devilishly as a plan formed in her head. She leaned back so that she was standing up straight and thought about what she wanted to do. Suddenly an idea came to the forefront of her mind. Leaning forward again she leaned in so that her mouth was right by his ear then yell, “Master Jaken!!!!” The toad jumped higher then Rin stood and flew into the water. He landed hard and with a large splash that landed back on Rin.
Rin was soaking wet. Her plan back fired and now she was not happy at all. But when she saw Jaken she burst out into a fit of laughter. What she saw was far too hilarious. She was on her rump as she kicked and held her stomach all the while rolling from side to side. There in the river Jaken stood. He was soaking wet and glaring at his lord’s young ward. He had a fish in his mouth and was trying to speak around it. All the while his arms flung back and forth and up and down. He tried to gain her attention so to scold her but he was unsuccessful as she kept on rolling.
Ah-Un was also laugh, on the inside, at the two’s antics. He leaned down so that he could eat some more when he heard rustling near the trees. He growled for them to not come any closer and to alert the others.
Rin and Jaken immediately stopped what they where doing. They looked at Ah-Un and frowned. They didn’t hear what he heard or see what he saw. All they knew was there was someone close to them. Jaken jumped in front of Rin to protect her. He would never let anything hurt his Lord’s ward. They watched to see what Ah-Un would do. This person could be there lord or it could be a predator bound and determined to hurt them.
Ah-Un growled low and menacingly. Who ever the person was would not get close to what he was protecting. There was no way he would let anyone close to Rin, never in all his life. His body was tense while his scales rattled on his body. He was shacking with anger at the idiot who would dare to approach so close to him. His tale whipped back and forth wildly, ever once in a while hitting the ground sending shock waves through the ground.
The intruder moved out from the cover of the forest. The woman stepped forward with a sadistic grin plastered on her face. She was hungry and she wanted something that would satisfy her tastes. Animal wasn’t enough, the only thing that would do would be human blood. As a bat demon, she would once in a while get these cravings. She smell a human from her cave and went after her prey immediately. She hadn’t eaten for weeks and now that there was something so close there was no way she would let it go. She stared at the group that was in front of her. Her grin never faltering. Her beady red eyes flashed with excitement as she looked at her prey. She would dine well tonight.
Jaken had enough of the demon that dared stand before him, Lord Sesshoumaru of the Western Lands retainer. He would not allow her to do anything. His voice shattered the silence as it squeaked and cracked in anger, “Who are you? Why do you confront us? Do you even know who we are?” he yelled.
“Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner.” She hissed and grinned even wider. Her fangs lengthened and her face grew into a muzzle as it moved to fit the size of its prey. Large, long, black wings sprang from her back reaching out to touch the air. Her shoulders rolled back and forth reading for a swift take off. Her body moved erotically while her head rolled on her shoulders. She stopped suddenly just staring at them. Her grin had long since been removed as it was replaced with a long, emotionless face. She looked absolutely terrifying while she just stood there.
Rin was shacking. This woman that was in front of them looked ready to kill them all. She didn’t doubt that with out her lord they would die. She quacked with fear and shrunk behind Jaken, at least she wouldn’t be alone when she left the earth. There would be others. She silently prayed to all the kami’s that her lord would be there in time to save them, she hoped and she waited.
(O)
Sesshoumaru was getting close. He could smell his ward was not that far off. She was close and it soothed his beast to know that his daughter…ward was safe. He hated the thought that she could get hurt and wanted more then anything to rid the world of those who would hurt her or those he called pack. There was another female he watched but she was safe for now with others. One day he would go after her but until the time was right he would wait and watch from a distance.
He began to feel a tug on his heart as his wards distress reached down into his blood and soul. She was scared. His eyes widened at the thought she was hurt or something was hurting her. If the toad wasn’t paying attention he would kill his retainer. His eyes bled red before he took off into the horizon after whatever was hurting those he called his. They would die by his hand and never even know it.
(O)
Rin was running as fast as she could to a safe place. Ah-Un had stepped forward to protect them and Jaken didn’t waste time trying to find a safe place for her to stay in. After awhile they found a well suited area where she would be safe. Jaken placed her there before heading back to Ah-Un. He would not let the bat get near Rin, never; she would have to take her over his dead body.
(O)
Ah-Un stood still waiting for the bat to make the first move. She just stood there as if she was petrified, stuck to the ground itself. Her eyes never shifted nor did her wings. She stared at him and he stared back.
Suddenly she moved. Her mouth opened slowly and slightly. Ah-Un’s mind went wild with trying to find out what the hell the bat was doing. He had no clue. Before it hit him. She can’t see him but she could feel and hear him. Since he wasn’t moving she was having a hard time. She could hear his breathing but probably couldn’t pin point his location. He had no identifiable scent, so she was at a loss there as well. All she had left was heat signature. Which as not good. If she could get a fix on him she could get him. But if he moved she would get him there as well. He was cornered.
She was having a hard time. The beast had barely any heat on him. What sort of dragon was he? Then she felt something as it moved closer and to a spot that had few heat but more then a tree would have. She grinned evilly when she figured out who it was, the toad was definitely stupid. She snapped her jaw shut getting the attention of both the demon.
“Ah-Un” Jaken screeched. Ah-Un’s heads turned toward the toad all the while glaring at him. The nit wit had given away both of there positions. He want to hit the vermin but thought against it. What good would it do? He turned back to the intruder and growled? Now that he had been given away he was free to move. He saw her grin and snarled. She had something planned and he didn’t like the looks of it. What ever it was it would happen soon. All he had to do was wait.
She looked between the toad and the beast. They had given away there positions but haven’t moved from their spots. They still stood strong in front of a certain amount of trees. Protecting something? She thought by now they would have lunged forward, yet they didn’t. She contemplated on why. Could it be the girl? Were they protecting her? She grinned evilly at the thought. She would just have to kill the little girl now. Demon and human were never supposed to be together. It would be nice to see the two suffer her lose. She would bleed them dry and right before they hit unconsciousness she would slit the girl’s throat and drink her blood dry. The last thing they would experience would be sadness. And she would enjoy her lunch.
Her wings stretched to impossible lengths. They moved back as far as possible to give her enough force to move up into the air. They came down fast and hard and then she was gone. Her body floated high above the two while she scanned the ground below. She was searching for the girl. She had to be somewhere close? Somewhere in the immediate area. She used heat signatures to find her but only found animals. She swooped back and forth making sure to keep in the suns light. If she could stay in the suns direct path of light she would not be able to be seen. It would be impossible. She would be undetectable. She searched the forest. Combing through the many trees. She finally found something and dove in close for a look. The girls was not far at all. It would be easy to retrieve her in time before the two lost consciousness. Now all she needed to do was put her plan in motion.
She moved back to the clearing where the two demons still resided. She used heat signature to find the two and pin point there spots. She found the toads and the beast wasn’t to far off. She would go for the toad first then the dragon. The little vermin was just far to annoying. He should go first since he hurt her ears. Plus he smelled horrible. She extended her claws reading for her attack. Her body shivered with excitement of the kill before her body went limp. Her evil smile was still in place as she did a back flip and freefell to the ground below.
The air around the two demons was loud. They could hear her wings bat back and forth above them. It whooshed and whizzed in their ears making it hard for them to concentrate. They couldn’t see what she was doing because she was directly in the path of the sun. The light hid her position. And now they where out of luck. They never noticed as she dove down upon them, claws extended, ready for the kill.
A blood curdling cry was sent through the forest. The thing screamed its anguish and pain. Jaken had failed his lord and Rin. He was now lying in a pool of his own blood as it seeped through the lacerations on is chest and neck. There was no way for him to move. His spine was severed. The vile creature had done it to him. He tried to run out of the way but she caught him by the neck. She yanked him into the air and he struggled to get loose. He moved out of her hold before she could get to her preferred height. He plummeted down to the ground his eyes closed as he accepted his fate. He was stopped before he hit. She snarled down at him before flying away again, him in her claws. She played with his body for sometime, tossing it back and forth as if playing a game of ball. She finally tried and dug her claws into his back. He struggled to get loose even though his sight was failing and his senses were whipped out. He could barely keep his eyes open as he fought the offender. Jaken moved in her hold tearing the flesh on his back and torso. He screamed his pain but focused on getting out. A thought entered into him his mind. He bit down on her hands that held him. Nothing happened. She never let go or cried out. He looked up into her eyes; they held a deadly look that sent shivers throughout his body. She released her hold on him and he fell to the ground. She cackled at him and said, “Can you fly? Because if you can you can have your life, toad, but if you can’t I will catch you and you will die.” His eyes grew wide in realization. If he could make it to the ground and not be harmed he could get away with his life but if he couldn’t…He didn’t want to think about it.
He was almost to the ground when he felt something grab his neck. It stung for a moment as it tarred at his jugular. Then there was a pop that could be hurt throughout the clearing. She had severed his spine rendering him helpless. The pain was unbearable and he went to scream but couldn’t. His vocal cords where also severed, he was going to die. She smirked and cackled at him evilly before turning away from his body. While facing away she said, “I win!” She walked away leaving him to die where he lay.
Ah-Un watched the exchange in horror but could do nothing to stop it. He watched the demon walk toward him and he growled menacingly at her. She stopped, removing her sadistic grin, and starred at him. Her words were spoke softly and evilly, “I don’t want to kill you.” She said, “But if you wish to fight me I will.” Ah-Un only growled at her louder. He didn’t care what she said. All that mattered was her life that would end today. She never moved, just starred at him. “Why is it, beast, that you protect a vile human?” Ah-Un stopped and looked at her. She was wasting time for some reason. Was it to draw Ran out? But she was safe, Jaken made sure of that?
Indeed she was wasting time but with the toad gone she couldn’t see the dragon. He had no heat signature, no scent, and he wasn’t moving. She was out of luck. She should have thought of this earlier. Leave the toad. Find the dragon. Kill the dragon, and then kill the toad. But now that wasn’t the case. She had her fun. Now it was time to focus and work to kill her prey. She talked to him so she could find him that was the only reason. But there was a down fall to that as well. The beast couldn’t talk only growl and he had stopped growling. She wondered if he figured out what she was doing. Could he know?
Ah-Un was trying desperately to figure out way she was talking to him but the answer kept evading him. He couldn’t remember why.
(O)
Sesshoumaru was close, only minutes away from where his pack was. He would make it in time. He could smell Jaken’s blood. His beast was angered beyond belief but he held onto the chains that surrounded it. He wouldn’t go crazy, he would stay in control. He was so close he could feel the presence of the other demon. She was strong but she had a down fall. He could feel it in her aura. She was frustrated too. There was something she couldn’t find and it was killing her. He hid his scent so that she wouldn’t detect him. He slowed his pace before walking into the clearing.
(O)
Ah-Un saw his master arrive. The bat demon was oblivious to it and he was thankful. He stayed still so he wouldn’t draw attention. He needed to keep up what he was doing. Or else she would suspect something.
Sesshoumaru was livid. He could see the demon clearly and what she had done to his retainer. He wondered where Rin was but figured she was fine since he could not smell her blood. He stalked toward the demon and stood right behind her waiting for her to notice.
She kept cocking her head to the side in thought. She could feel another presence in the area but didn’t know where it was. The aura felt like it was dispersed, almost like it was all around her. She was getting frustrated. First it was the dragon now it was something or someone else. What perturbed her is that she couldn’t tell who it was, only that there was another. She growled out her frustration and waited. Suddenly she felt something on the back of her neck. She turned around quickly and opened her mouth to speak. “Who are you?” she said to the mysterious presence.
“Your down fall.” He said. He brought forth his only hand and placed it on her abdomen. “You dare kill what is mine,” he growled, “You will pay for your insolence. You will die today.” He released a great amount of poison and watched as it dissolved her body. He held no emotion as he watched her perish. He cared not for a mere demon as her self. She would die in pain for her transgressions. He looked up to Ah-Un and waited for the dragon to tell him where Rin was.
Ah-Un said nothing to his master only walked away to get the person he wanted. He figured his lord would save Jaken so he didn’t bother to play around, now to find the girl.
Sesshoumaru watched his dragon leave then walked calmly over to Jaken. His eye’s where lifeless holding no emotion, no feeling, no care. He was on the verge of death and he was going to die. Sesshoumaru could do nothing for the toad who had been his loyal servant for many years. He had already saved his life with tensiega once before so he could not save him again. He wondered what his last thought was, if it was happy or if it was filled with anguish. He hoped it was happiness. The toad at least deserved to be happy right before he died or at least content. He thanked the toad and bowed his head in regret. He wouldn’t miss the excessive talking or gravelling but he would miss such a good servant. He could sense Rin was approaching and he knew she would not take well to seeing her friend and companion dead. He moved in front of the body and waited. She would be there soon. She would be crying soon.
Rin could see her lord through the trees and was grateful to see that he was alright. She ran to him and latched her arms around his legs. She dried into his pant leg and held on for her life. She was so scared. She didn’t ever want to go through that again. She looked up into her lords eyes. They were emotionless as always. She cried out to her lord, “Sesshoumaru-sama, Rin was worried. Milord I was so scared.”
Sesshoumaru felt terrible. He hated to see Rin sad; it was something he wished never to look upon. He kneeled in front of her and she took the advantage. She wrapped her small arms around his neck and wept into the crook of his neck. He didn’t move to hug her close; he didn’t try to comfort her. He had never done this before and he didn’t want to look weak. He pulled her away from his body with his one arm and spoke, “Rin, We will go back to the palace.” His voice was calm, fatherly as he spoke to the person he thought of as a daughter. She nodded but held to him never letting go of his hoari. She fisted his clothing in her hands. She didn’t want him to let go of her yet. She want to be comforted, she wanted her father to comfort her.
He stayed on the ground and let her hold him. He looked around the clearing and stretched out his senses to see if there was someone out there watching. He wanted to make sure that no one saw what he was about to do. If someone did it would mean a lot of trouble. He found nothing in the immediate area and he allowed for himself to relax. Wrapping his only arm around Rin he hugged her to his body. He nuzzled the top of her head with his cheek and growled low in the back of his throat. It was meant to calm her, and in fact it did. The growl was specifically meant or a pup, it told them they were alright and safe. He found it odd for her to react to it but he didn’t let the thought stop him from comforting her. She held on tight and cried.
Rin was happy that her lord would allow her to do this. Usually he would just turn his back on her and walk away. It was Jakens duty to calm her and he would. By the way where was Jaken? How come he wasn’t besides her, trying his hardest to settle her down. But he wasn’t with her, so what could have happened? She raised her head from her lord’s shoulder and looked out at the forest behind her. What she saw on the ground frightened her. She began to cry hard as her fits became erotic and uncontrollable. She tried to release herself from her lord’s hold but he held her tight and didn’t let go. He growled louder, knowing all to well what she had seen.
“JAKEN!!! MASTER JAKEN!!!!” she yelled out in anguish. She fought her lord as she cried out louder. She wanted to get to him, shack him awake, make him get up, make him come to her.
Sesshoumaru picked her up in his arms. She was still fighting to get loose but he held on tight. He didn’t want her to see the full extent of his retainer’s injuries. If she did, she would never speak; never look upon life as she did now. She would be different as it is, seeing her best friend and traveling companion dead. But it would only hurt her more to see what had happened to him. He moved away from the spot and she started kick and hitting to get away. “Rin,” his voice was firm, holding high authority. She went limp in his arms then looked up into his face. Tiers were streaming down her face. She asked the only question she could think about. “Why Sesshoumaru-sama? Why didn’t you save him, milord?” She was distraught; he needed to get her away quickly.
“Rin, No more.” His said. There was no emotion in his voice and it held his authority. He would not tolerate this she would need to learn. “Settle Rin, Jaken will not be with us any longer. We will head back to the palace. You will be safe there until I can find another retainer to watch over and protect you.”
“I don’t want another. I want Jaken milord, please I want Jaken.” She cried. She only wanted him, only Jaken. He was her best friend. Why couldn’t Sesshoumaru bring him back. Her lord ould do anything. Why now that he couldn’t do anything, why now?
“I will not hear any more about this.” His voice held danger and she listen. She cried into his neck and held onto him. She was mad that he couldn’t do anything but when the time was right he would tell her why. But she anted her friend, she wanted to scare Jaken by a stream, and hear him call to her for her to follow or to hurry up, she wanted to hear his voice and be beside him. Question him about being with her lord, talk to him about what he used to do. She wanted to hear him tell stories of their great lord; she wanted to see him use the two head staff. She wanted him.
Sesshoumaru could feel her pain. It would be better to get her home before he let anything else happen. She would be safe there, were he would be able to watch her better. His step quicken as he made his way home. There were so many things going through his head at the moment. Life would get hard but at least they had each other.
Jaken died then. Maybe one day he would return but who would really know? He sacrificed himself for a cause and he would be honored for it later on. He would be remembered by many as the servant who saved his lord’s young ward.
The most important thing was if he was happy when he left the earth. In fact he was. Before he left all of his memories came flooding back into his mind. His life had been filled with happiness. The last thing he saw before he went was his last encounter with his lord’s young ward. She would forever be etched into his soul. Never would her face fade. He had been happy as he passed and that’s all that mattered. He would rest in peace and await the day he would meet up with his companions once again.

This is a two part chapter because if i were to keep going i would end up have over 20,000 words. Right now this chapter has 10,562 so its up there. Im trying to keep the chapters consitant so hang in there with me. I am no where near close so okay. I how you enjoy the chapter and if you don't like having two parts tell me. Thank you for reading.
Your question. -
Same one from the previous chapters still stands. If i where to have a love triangle who would you want it with? (Has to include Kagome and Anubis. Pick another i don't mind who)
Your new question- Should our lovely lord get a new retainer? And if so what demon she it be?
Theres nothing really interesting to tell you. The great stuff will be coming later on.
There is something that I have noticed in most stories that is: they really don't picture a kid well. I don't have children but my cousin does. And I noticed that when ever the child is anxious or hurt they get REALLY clingy and they just won't let the parents go. Also, yes, Jaken is dead. Never to return to the earth. Maybe later on in the story he will get a reincarnation of something otherwise he is really gone. Kagome and the gang will be heading out soon enough, I still plan on showing you the bath scene. There are some important things I need to get mentioned in there. Im going to go into detail on the country side and start a story. If you have ever heard the Japanese myth on how Japan was created you'll know a little on what I will be telling. I can tell you the myth is a great love story so that is why I want to tell it. It also has something to do with Kagome and Anubis so make sure you watch what I say and how I tell it. There are going to be hidden things inside of it so that is why. After that I will describe the meeting between anubis and kagome. I want to get it in their point of view and that will be it for that chapter. So there you go. I hope you like it and I am so glad that there are so many reading this story. I appreciate all of my reviewers and I thank you and dedicate all my chapters to you.
That is all for now I hope you liked it and if you didn’t I don’t care.
Chow!
