Chapter 4
A/N: Hey guys, long time no update eh? Sorry bout that…well sorta. Inspiration to finish is at a standstill. I have maybe two more chapters written up, but then after that who knows? I have so many other ideas running around in my head…damn plot bunnies. Unfortunately, none concerning this story. Too many IchiRen possibilities, and now I find myself being pulled into the world of SasuNaru le gasp!! My inner fangirl is breaking free!! I’m sorry it’s so short, but this should make everyone a lil bit happier, the next chapter has limey goodness. Finally! I’m starting it off with a Bang, literally. Enjoy and I’ll see you at the end.
The school day quickly ended and Kagome headed outside to wait for her friends. Hiten was still there waiting for her. She hadn’t meant to launch such a powerful psychic attack on him. It just happened. In a brief moment of anger, her control had slipped. She could not allow that to occur again.
‘I better get this over with.’ she thought numbly to herself. She walked catlike over to Hiten. He appeared to be daydreaming, but she knew better.
“Hiten?” she asked softly, trying not to disturb him to much, “Are you okay?” She felt she pretty much knew the answer and was prepared for almost any response he could’ve given. She just wasn’t prepared for the one he gave her now.
“How did you do that?” he asked her, his voice dangerously low. She looked at him. He still appeared lost in thought.
“Um, well, you see, I really don’t know…” she began. She didn’t want to explain the truth to him now, not like this, hopefully not ever. She worked so hard to keep others in the dark, and that had been almost shattered in an instant of uncontrollable anger.
“Don’t lie to me woman.” His voice had an angry clip to it.
Kagome was stunned. He had never spoken to her like that, he was always trying to woe her into becoming his mate. She gulped.
Finally, Hiten looked at her. “So, she finally shows fear. I can smell it all over your wretched human body now. Where has that fear been all this time Ka-go-me? You should have feared me from the moment we met. You should have mated with me too. You were to be mine. Alas, I’ll have to set my sights on someone else.” He was slowly getting up from the table now, a thoughtful expression on his face, and unbridled anger gleaming from his narrowed eyes.
“What do you mean Hiten? What are you doing?” The fear had worked its way into Kagome’s voice. She took a step back. Hiten matched her every move. He stared at her now, not as a lover, but as the demon he was. Like she was his prey. She knew she was in trouble. But she could handle herself, couldn’t she?

Sesshomaru was leaving Myoga’s class later than usual. He had once again been given the responsibility of marking a bunch of test papers. He should just mark a big X on all of them. The students in Myoga’s class, well, they were all idiots. Well, most. For not being in his class for the first two months, Kagome had picked up everything exceptionally well. He had looked through the stack of papers to find and grade hers first. It was perfect. She put most of the math teachers at the school to shame. Sesshomaru chuckled again at the entrance she had made the previous day. Myoga had just sat and stared at the board for the next fifteen minutes, until Sesshomaru had cleared his throat and asked if the answer was correct. He knew of course it was, but he enjoyed seeing the otherwise cocky teacher get a taste of his own. Myoga had just sat there and kept muttering that it couldn’t be, how had she done it, what the…
Sesshomaru’s senses were suddenly filled with the scent of fear. ‘Not my concern.’ He thought to himself. He took another breathe before recognizing whom the scent belonged to. It was Kagome and she was terrified. The scent of the demon whom she had been with earlier in the day was also in the air. This time, his demon blood was bursting through.
‘Kagome’s in trouble!’ Sesshomaru quickly ran with lightening speed to where the two were locked in battle. A losing battle in Kagome’s case it appeared.
Hiten had the girl by the neck and was holding her pinned to a tree. He was crushing her throat. She was desperately clawing at his hands, trying to budge them even an inch, breathing was becoming harder for her, little spots danced before her eyes as she struggled to draw in air. ‘Oh my god, what the Hell? This is nuts! I gotta stop him…wait…someone’s coming, I can’t act now, they’ll see what I am. I hope whoever it is can stop Hiten without my help…’
As Kagome looked trying to figure out who was coming closer, Hiten was oblivious. Too intent on crushing the life out of her, he never saw the fist coming from the left. It made contact with his jaw and sent him hurtling through the air and crashing to the ground. There was a crunch as he landed. Kagome took a deep breath as she fell from the tree. Strong arms caught her and a wisp of silver hair floated past her face. Two golden eyes looked down at her. ‘InuYasha?’ was her first coherent thought. Then, shaking her head she looked more closely. The features were sharper, more defined. Sesshomaru. ‘What’s he doing here? Duh. Saving me. But why?’ She struggled to stand up, but Sesshomaru’s grip tightened on her. A gasp of pain slipped out before she knew she felt any. The grip slacked slightly, and a low voice murmured into her ear, “Sorry.” Kagome looked up at his face. It was expressionless as usual. He had apologized, hadn’t he? She wasn’t that far gone. She was sure, she would never forget that silky smooth voice of his, a voice that could chill to the bone. She felt him pick her up, and her head swam. Another groan escaped her lips. Kagome noticed they were headed towards his car. They didn’t make it quite in time however.
“What the Hell do you think you’re doing by interfering? This is between my mate and I! You have no business here.” Hiten’s voice was laced with anger. Sesshomaru didn’t even slow his pace. “Bring her back here, or you’ll regret it!” Hiten burst out.
‘Oh, not smart Hiten! Wrong thing to say!’ Kagome winced, waiting for Sesshomaru to attack, but he didn’t. He was still headed towards the car. At the same time they reached the car they heard the sound of gravel crunching behind them. Hiten was actually going to attack Sesshomaru? Without even looking behind him, Sesshomaru lifted one hand and a long whip appeared. With a flick of his wrist, the whip curled back to Hiten and hit him hard in the chest. He went flying backwards. This time he didn’t get up. ‘For once he’s being smart,’ Kagome thought grimly to herself. ‘To bad Sesshomaru showed up, I would have loved to show that guy what else I can do.’ With happy thoughts of how she would have handled Hiten going through her mind, she drifted off to sleep.
