A Fatal Mistake

Chapter 4: A Fatal Mistake.

Kagome woke up from her long rest. How long had it been, a couple of weeks? She stood up, her back aching, her head throbbing full of pain. She stood up to realize she could hear everything around her more clearly. She heard every little sound, even the small steps of the rodent that slept through the wall downstairs.

“What the heck?” she said, frightened.

She stood up and looked in the mirror. Her hair black with white streaks, her eyes a light hazel.

“What happened to me, is this real?” she thought.

She looked at herself, young, beautiful, she bit her lip and stared in shock at the small fangs that hung down from her top and bottom jaw. She licked the small drips of blood that hung from her soft lips, and brushed her silky long streaks. To her surprise she jumped at the sound of footsteps walking up the stairs. She quickly climbed up to her bed and hid under the sheets like a little girl who was expecting to see the boogeyman.

As the footsteps became louder, the door creaked open. Out came a tall white figure. His hair was long, and full of balance, his skin white as snow. She lifted her sheets as Sesshomaru stared at the young priestess in excitement and complete astonishment.
Kagome stared, her beautiful frightened eyes watched the demon as approached her and kissed her neck.

“You are even more beautiful than I expected,” he smirked.
“What’s happening to me, what am I now?” she asked.
“You are a demon now Kagome, like me you are immortal, and unlike any human your beauty wont fade away as you get older, instead you will become more beautiful and stronger as the years go by.” He spoke.

As she looked into his eyes she became more comfortable with her appearance. She stood up and rose from the sheets, lifting her body and showing Sesshomaru what she had become.

He stared and acknowledged her beauty. To him she was like a work of art that had just blossomed from a bud to a beautiful flower. He stared in amazement; he realized that doing this was no mistake. Not only was she beautiful, but her posture, her courage, the small fangs that hung down from her upper lip, made her look and feel like the perfect woman.

The way she stared at him made him want to take her right there. Give her his pups, breed her, and make her his own. She stared at him with lust in her eyes, her body being able to attract any demon that was near by. To his surprise there was one half demon he wanted to see, Inuyasha.

Mean while the seemingly surprised half demon sat anxiously outside Keade’s hut, waiting for Kagome to come home.

“Where the hell is she?” he said.

“Inuyasha, come on, she’ll be back” Mirkou said doubtfully.

It’s been four weeks since Kagome’s disappearance. Inuyasha had left to find her everyday since then. Her scent was starting to disappear from his mind. It had actually come to the point where he was starting to forget what she looked like. Her whole family was worried, thinking she had been swallowed up by demons. There were times where he heard Sango and Shippou crying at night worrying about their best friend. He would sometimes see Miroku wandering through the forest spreading his so called “cursed seals” to worn off any demons that might try to hurt Kagome if she ever came home. But it was no use. Inuyasha had realized that maybe Kagome was kidnapped by Naraku, or even slain by a demon, but then he would smell her scent of blood or hear her screams somehow right? That day when he had smelt the scent of his half brother on his priestess was the day he started to believe that maybe she was there, with him. But it wasn’t possible, right?

But he also had second thoughts. Maybe she had run away from Inuyasha. He was a jerk to her, and boy did he wish he could just smell her scent one last time. So every night this would happen. He would stay outside Kaede’s hut waiting for Kagome, waiting for his true love to come home. Nothing ever happened. Sometimes, when no one was watching or was asleep, he would walk to the nearest waterfall and scream her name. Letting everyone hear his voice, wanting her to come back.

Two weeks had passed by before he caught a glimpse of what he thought was his precious Kagome, but this scent was different. He was curious, so he left the others behind. He was slow enough to where they could follow his trail, and they only hoped it was their beloved Kagome.

Inuyasha ran through the trees, his friends not too far behind. The scent was getting stronger, and as he approached a tall cave, the smell of a demon stopped him in his tracks. It was a woman. He hid behind some trees as she approached the small stream and rinsed her long hair in the water. She laughed at the sudden goose bumps that approached her body as she sat in the cold water.

Miroku and the others finally approached Inuyasha and hid as well. Miroku, trying to get a closer look, yelped in pain as a small hand hit his face, leaving him stunned. They all stared at Inuyasha who eyed the young demon suspiciously. He jumped as his brother’s scent approached the young girl, and soon he was in full view, watching the maiden with wanting eyes and lust.
Inuyasha felt sick, and still suspicious as to how the girl resembled his Kagome. The others had seen it as well, this young demon, beautiful yet mysterious, her identity unknown.

Sesshomaru had seen his half brother before he had even come. He knew him and his human friends were watching them now very closely. Sesshomaru smirked as his brother’s eyes kept a close watch on Kagome. Who couldn’t, she was simply amazing. Her human form was fine, but as a demon he was sure she would be able to please him in many different ways. He laughed at his sudden thought and stared at the young demon girl, as her surprised look seemed intriguing. She smiled back, and looked towards Inuyasha, not surprised but happy. She looked at the half demon, and stood up.

“Hello Inuyasha,” she said calmly.

Inuyasha looked at the young demon girl, and stood up realizing he was caught. The others rose up as well never taking their eyes off the young girl.

“How did you know my name?” he asked.

Kagome was interrupted by Sesshomaru’s cold voice, and Inuyasha groaned in disgust as he spoke.

“You don’t recognize her? How sad, to think you once loved this priestess,” he smirked.

He held Kagome’s hand as he spoke his harsh words, and held her chin so Inuyasha could see her face.

“K..K..Kagome?” he stammered.

Sesshomaru smiled as his brother shook in terror as his one true love looked him in his eyes and nodded. Inuyasha gasped as Kagome stared at him with such fear of rejection, her scent covered by Sesshomaru’s. The others looked in shock as their faithful Kagome smiled at them before returning her glance back to Inuyasha.

“What have you done Sesshomaru?” Sango grasped.

She held Kiara tight as she watched her best friend grab the arms of Sesshomaru and leaned in to kiss him.

Inuyasha watched in disgust as their lips met, his head dripping with sweat as he tried to calm himself down.

“Out of all the things to do to Inuyasha, this is by far the worst!” Miroku said angrily.

Sesshomaru laughed in disappointment as the monk compared him to such wrong doing. Sesshomaru hated his brother, but to be called for doing such a childish act made him think they thought of him as human.

“You think I did this to hurt Inuyasha? Fools. Kagome chose this for herself, I just gave a helping hand,” he spoke.

He smirked as everyone stared at the depressed miko, and watched as she finally spoke.

“Is that true Kagome?” Inuyasha whispered.

He walked up to Kagome and looked into her eyes one last time as the priestess they all knew nodded and smiled.

“Inuyasha, I’m sorry, but I love Sesshomaru, and I’ve realized that he loves me too. He would never take advantage of me or have to decide between his past love or his future one.” She whispered back.

Inuyasha watched as the grip between the two demons became tighter. For the first time in Inuyasha’s life tears fell down his face, and he dropped to his knees before his fellow lover. He looked into her eyes before finally speaking.

“Kagome, I loved you. Kikiyo was nothing, but I guess its to late to say that, right?” he cried softly.

“Yes it is brother, you have failed to love this woman and now she loves me. Its funny how things change, and how pitiful you have become,” said Sesshomaru.

Sesshomaru pulled his sword and held it over Inuyasha’s shoulders. He smirked as he was finally ending his brother’s life. The others looked in shock as Inuyasha sat below Sesshomaru, excepting his fate. Kagome stared at the bowed hayou, and smirked at the pitiful demon known as Inuyasha. But her happiness became sadness as Inuyasha’s last words touched her heart.

“Kagome, I love you, and I will always love you, human nor demon; my heart belongs to you.” He whispered.

Sesshomaru grinned at the small drips of blood that fell off the nape of Inuyasha’s neck as Sesshomaru’s blade almost hit its mark. Sesshomaru laughed now as his brother cried in defeat and sorrow. As he was about to strike, a young demon grabbed Sesshomaru’s arm and pulled the sword aside.

“Please don’t! I can’t take this anymore!” Kagome screamed.

“What is it? What’s wrong?” Sesshomaru asked.

“I love you Sesshomaru, but do you have to kill Inuyasha? Can’t you just let him be miserable instead of just ending his life?” she cried.

Sesshomaru gasped as he felt his young Kagome fall to her knees begging to let his hayou brother go.

Inuyasha rose to his feet in shock as Kagome stared at his brother crying to let him go.

“Does she feel the same way?” he thought.

Sesshomaru lifted the young demon, and rushed off into the forest, leaving Inuyasha and the others in shock and disappointment.

“I’ll deal with you later, half brother” he smirked as he dragged Kagome’s weeping body back to his castle.

Inuyasha sank to his knees with fear and sadness in his eyes. The others attended his wounds as the now fainted Inuyasha lay on the dark green grass, laying still in the darkness.

Kagome stared blankly at the sky as they traveled through the wind.

"Why had his last words put so much affect on her?" she thought.

"Is it becasue he loved me for who I am, while Sesshomaru only loved me for who I wasn't?" she painfully thought.

Thinking was too much for her, and so Kagome laid in Sesshomaru’s arms, Inuyasha’s face still remaining in her head. His salty wet tears falling from his face, and the amber golden eyes that stared into her soul with such disappointment and sadness. She stood up looking at her sweet demon prince wondering if this was all just a fatal mistake.
