A/N: Much love to those who reviewed. ^.^ I’m so glad that everyone is liking the story so far. I’ve been debating on whether to post it on DA but I can’t remember what the terms were on how to post stories. I’ll be looking into that soon, I suppose, lol. ^^;

Chapter IV: I’ll Never Leave You

Naraku circled the demoness, eying her suspiciously.

“Is there a cure to this delightful spell of yours? I wish to know if anything can indeed ruin my fun…”

The former Lady of the West smirked, taking a fan out from her belled out sleeves and flicking her wrist for a gentle breeze.

“If you mean a counter spell, then no. There is none. However, the spell does wear off in a matter of phases.”

“What?!” Naraku’s eyes narrowed dangerously at the woman. She dared not tell me about the spell wearing off?!

“Don’t get huffy with me, half breed. You are the one who failed to ask. And yes, the spell wears off after a period. However, this period depends on the strength of those it holds. Also, there is one little thing you might find either a hinder, or a help…”

“Well, wench, what is it?”

The demoness scowled harshly, snapping her fan open and shut.

“You will address me as Lady Leiko!”

“You hold no power here, wench. So do not presume that I shall call you anything above your current…status…

Leiko smirked, her aura darkening in an attempt to swallow Naraku’s whole.

“If you wish to know what information I have to offer, you will show some respect, half breed.”

Returning a smirk of his own, Naraku nodded, though his voice was laced with sarcasm, a trait Leiko didn’t care to notice.

“Very well, Lady Leiko…Tell me what have I been missing all this time?”

“The spell is simple. Though your victims shall contain the memories of their present, they will regain the thought process of the past. You say you used such a spell on my son? Well, dog demon pups tend to be more susceptible to creating pack bonds. When the spell does wear off, if you are unable to kill my son by then, you can either use his new need for a pack as his new weakness…”

“So the mutt will probably…”

Leiko glared at Naraku for cutting her off, and snorted to gain back his attention.

“Do not think you know everything, welp. That weakness can also be his strength. Not a bloody thing in this world will come between an alpha and his pack. They fight with more vigor when protecting something.”

Naraku became quiet for a moment, before a malicious smile crossed his face, baring his fangs in his delight.

“In that case, Lady Leiko, perhaps you will soon be worthy of your title yet.”

With that, the half demon turned and stalked out of the cave, leaving Leiko to her thoughts.

“Dance of the Wind!”

A series of semi-circles began to fly about, slicing through trees and cutting close to the children. One ripped into Kagome’s sleeve, brushing just past Rin’s face, causing both girls’ to scream and jump back. Sesshomaru looked back, jumping quickly in front of the two, his poison whip knocking the attacks off target.

Sango hurried forward, putting herself before the young ones, using Hiraikotsu almost as a shield before hurdling it towards some more demons. Miroku soon joined his unknown beloved, using his staff to purify demons that ventured to close.

Kagome, her eyes wide with fear, began looking for an escape for her, Rin, and Shippo. Her deep blue eyes finally caught sight of something in the background. It was odd, and furry, like Sesshomaru’s tail, but not quite the same. Curiously, completely forgetting the battle for a brief few seconds, the young miko went to follow the fur. As she got closer, she noticed that indeed it wasn’t a fur, so much as a pelt. She gasped, looking to back away when she noticed it was a very familiar baboon pelt.

“Naraku? What…What did you do to me and Sesshmaru?!”

A deep chuckle arose from the baboon skin, long slender fingers lifting up to remove the hood.

“And here I thought you were fearless, little miko. Are you not so fearless without Inuyasha to protect you?”

Kagome wrinkled her nose a bit, causing Naraku to smirk visibly.

“I don’t need his help!”

“Don’t you?”

The figure slowly stalked towards the tiny miko, forcing her to back up. Before her eyes, a thin, green light flashed forward, slicing the figure in half and revealing it to be merely a puppet.

“What’s wong with you? You could have been killed!”

Sesshomaru’s angry little face burst through the bushes before he grabbed a hold of Kagome’s wrist. She started to growl in protect before he looked back at her.

“Don’t do that again. You had me wo-weed.”

Kagome stopped her protest, averting her eyes from the dog demon pup, only to look at her shoes with a somewhat guilty expression. An expression that Sesshomaru was starting to become none to pleased with.

“I sorry I worried you…”

“Just don’t do it again.”

He didn’t want her apologies. He wanted her safe, with Rin, and Ah-Un and Jaken. He couldn’t understand it, but olde instincts were returning to him. Olde needs from when he was a pup were flooding back into his mind. When he and Kagome stepped back out of the brush, Kagura was nowhere in sight, nor were the demons that had tagged along.

“Where did you two go, runt?”

Sesshomaru frowned, giving a soft growl towards Inuyasha. Before he could say anything, Inuyasha came crashing into the ground at the sound of a single soft word.

“Sit…”

The demon pup couldn’t help the broad smile that formed over his face, while his “older” brother was eating dirt.

Naraku chuckled as he gazed into Kanna’s mirror.

“So the little wench was right. That mutt of a demon lord is getting attached to the little miko. How very….intriguing.”

He quietly tugged a piece of his hair out, took a wooden doll and made yet another puppet.

The group set up camp not long after the battle, as the darkness drew near. Sango had started a fire and was cooking some fish that Inuyasha had caught. Miroku was meditating, still trying to find an answer to Sesshomaru and Kagome’s problem. Inuyasha was nowhere to be found, though Kagome still had a sneaking suspicion as to what was happening. Though she had the memories of everything that has since happened, she had the heart of a child, and she quietly decided to venture for a midnight snack of berries by herself. She stole a few glances around and saw that even Sesshomaru was busy coddling Rin and trying to ease the child’s fears of the future with her beloved lord in such a vulnerable state.

Kagome quietly found a bush full of briar berries. Quietly nibbling on them, she stopped in mid snack at the feel of a very familiar aura. Turning around, she spotted the most recent of Naraku’s puppets reclining against a tree. Her eyes grew wide, not wanting to get into trouble with Sesshomaru for wandering off, but wanting desperately to get away as far as possible from this new threat.

“I’m not going to harm you, little miko. I have just come to talk. Come, sit by me.”

He gracefully moved his hand and gestured for her to take a seat near him. She shook her head vigorously, backing away a bit, causing the dark puppet the chuckle lightly.

“Very well, child, then stand. Though I’m sure you are more than tired of that by now. I have come to ask you if you have been fairing well.”

Kagome looked up curiously, taking another bite of a berry in a child’s excuse to not answer the question of an adult. Naraku again laughed softly, his eyes glittering with amusement.

“Very well, child, you don’t have to answer me…” Naraku stopped, looking up at the sky, the crescent moon giving a very faint light in which to see.

“You do know that the longer you stay like this, the less time you will have to ever stay in Inuyasha’s life, don’t you?”

With a light frown, Kagome shook her head defiantly.

“He won’t leave me.”

“Won’t he? With you like this, it won’t be such a hard decision for him to choose to stay with Kikyo. And then what? She’ll have none of your being around…”

Kagome let out a soft whimper, still shaking her head from side to side.

“He won’t leave me…He promised.”

“Promised? Heh heh heh heh, he promised to go to hell with Kikyo. He can’t very well keep his promise to both. And you are but a little child. After you lose Inuyasha, you’ll soon lose Sesshomaru as well. What use does a powerful demon lord have for someone like you?”

Kagome’s wide eyes welled up with tears, her tiny balled up fists coming up to her mouth as she attempted to choke back a sob.

“After he leaves, his little troop will leave as well. And your friends…The monk and demon slayer. They will want a life of their own. They will want to marry, not take care of a little creature such as yourself. They’d rather have their own offspring…”

Kagome settled herself against a tree as far as she could from Naraku’s voice, soft whimpers emerging from her small frame.

“If you were to come with me, I could return you back to normal. I would not abandon you as they, in time, will…”

Naraku’s thought could not be finished as the girl got up and started running for all she was worth back to camp. He smirked, quietly disappearing into the shadows.

Sesshomaru looked up at the sound of choking sobs in the distance. He hurried towards the noise with Rin close behind him, noting vaguely that the human’s were too distracted to hear. As he got closer, he stopped to sniff around for danger, only to be charged by a frightened and shaking Kagome. He landed on his back with an “oomph!”, looked up to see Kagome practically burying her face into his small chest. He frowned deeply, wondering what was wrong.

“Are you alwight? Were you attacked?”

His golden eyes glistened in the moonlight, as he met her teary blue orbs. She shook her head, not wanting to mention to him her talk with Naraku.

“Y-y-you w-won’t lea-leave me, w-will you-hoo-hoo?”

Sesshomaru quirked a brow, blinking back his confusion as the rest of her ramblings were consumed in tears and hiccups. After her question, all he could make out were faint “muh……muh”. Rin gently patted Kagome’s back in an attempt to calm the other girl, worry written through her chocolate eyes.

“I’m not goin’ anywhere, Kagome. Please stopped cwying.”

Finally her sobs were reduced to merely hiccups, as she continued to cling to the pup for life.

“You won’t leave?”

“No, I won’t leave.”

He frowned, seeing her still unconvinced. Quietly, he took her arms into his clawed hands and bit into them, causing her to yelp and forget all about her worries. She looked down at the two small puncture wounds in each arm and started to ask him what was he doing, when she was stopped. He promptly did the same thing to himself and Rin, then grabbed each girl by an arm arms with his, causing the bloods to mix.

“I won’t leave you. You awe pack.”

Kagome felt a strange sensation, wanting to scream, but no sound came through. Rin was also feeling strange, like a burst of energy flowing through her, yet for some reason, she wanted only to sleep. Sesshomaru, on the other hand, looked like his life was being drained from his body. His eyes shifted from gold to almost a dull cream colour before he collapsed. Rin and Kagome soon followed, both girl’s carrying the distant thought that the other had golden eyes.
