Chapter 3: Down the Rabbit Hole and Strange Surprises

I sat on one side of the fire right next to Inuyasha who was fuming about the Jewel being broken and still could not come to terms with having only a fragment of what a few hours ago had been a whole Jewel. “What? What did you do to it?” My eyes opened from the closed position they had been in and I looked across at Kigomi who was staring at the shard glowing in her fingers.

“Stop barking Inuyasha!” I looked over at Kaede who looked exasperated at Inuyasha’s mood swings. “Leave it to her to wind up breaking it!” I looked at Inuyasha then a frown on my face as I shifted in to a kneeling position my crossed arms falling to my side.

“Inuyasha, Kagomi or I could have broken the Jewel so stop blaming everyone!” He looked at me his jaw visibly clenched. “Oh and where the hell were you, probably off moping!” My eyes widened and then narrowed as my lips pulled back in a snarl. “If you want to know I was going to go practice with my sword to get a bit better mr I-know-it-all.”

Inuyasha’s eyes narrowed then as he brought his head closer to mine glaring with the ferocity that my eyes were glaring at him until I tuned away and stood up as I walked over to the door and looked out at the quiet town. “Feh, can’t even stand up to me!” Kaede had enough “Enough Inuyasha, fighting is not the way to resolve anger.”

“Feh, well if she had not broken the Jewel then I would not be like this!” I looked over my shoulder at them all and saw Kaede looked not that much bothered with the mood of Inuyasha. “Technically, it wasn’t Kigomi who broke it, but the crow’s foot she attached to her arrow that actually caused it.” I fully turned my head to Kaede as everyone’s attention was now on her.

“As ye saw, the Jewel has now been scattered into many different pieces, 100 or 1000 who knows, yet however many shards there may be, all it will take is one in the wrong hands to bring disaster.” We all looked quiet for a moment commentating what this meant. “I’m so sorry I had no idea!” Kigomi then looked back at the Jewel shard she held. “It was not your fault!” She looked up at me and was about to argue but I cut her off “Don’t argue with me just take it for granted! It was not your fault.”

“Kigomi, Inuyasha, Shade.” I looked back at Kaede as she spoke to each of us. “Only by working together will the three of ye be able to recover the shards of the Jewel!” Kigomi looked horrified as Inuyasha smirked at this although my expression fell in to a frown as I realized I would be a burden on the other two. “Hmp, you won’t catch me complaining I’m one of the wrong hands you were talking about” Kaede just looked at him and then shut her eyes as she bowed her head.

“Oh ie(Scottish for yes. Someone tell me if I spelt it right?”), that I know too well!” Kigomi looked horrified. I looked up from gazing in to nothing and straightened up away from the wall as I looked over at Kaede “Can I speak to you outside Kaede?” Inuyasha and Kigomi looked up at this as she nodded and followed me out.

“What bothers ye?” I had been leaning against the wall when she came out. I then turned to her my emotions showing through for once to the only one that had taken care of me when the villagers had wanted to kill or banish me. “Don’t you think I will be a liability? I mean I am not a good fighter, I am still getting used to my hanyou abilities, I am frightened of heights and lets not forget how useless I am at keeping up with Inuyasha he is way faster than me.” By this time I had punched a hole in the ground while my tears fell down my face.

I then felt her hand on my shoulder as she kneeled down beside me. “Ye are not useless, ye are still growing from a human to a hanyou with much better abilities than that as a human and ye body is finding it hard to accommodate the changes.” I looked up at her with the vulnerability of a child “Oh Child, ye are getting there and I think, going with Inuyasha and Kigomi will help ye a long way.” I then nodded my head and took a deep breath as I stood up and helped Kaede on her feet.

“I am going to sleep in the forest again and think over what you said, thank you for helping me Kaede.” She nodded her head and headed inside as I watched and once she had passed the door, I then turned and ran to the forest hopping up to the branches of the first tree and jumping the branches through the trees until I came to where my backpack had been hung up. I then took it down, opened the top and took out my blanket and curled it around myself as I sat there way into the night thinking on what Kaede had said.

Next morning…

My eyes opened as a yawn escaped from my jaws, as my ears pricked forward as they listened to the waterfall. Then with another yawn and a stretch I got up, pulling the blanket of my shoulders, folding it up and put it in to my pack, which was still hanging of the tree limb. I then took down the pack and jumped to the ground as I went towards the waterfall. When I got there I took of all my leather clothing and folded it up away from the water to wash it later. Then I climbed up the nearest tree naked as the day I was born stepped on the branch that was right over the water and ran as fast as I could along it until I jumped off the end as high as I could.

I then twisted in the air until I aligned myself with the water and went in smoothly while a giant wave hit Kagomi who had been walking up the path towards the waterfall. I was swimming under the water at this time and not noticing Kagomi who had got in to the water as well. Eventually I came up out of the water and still had not noticed everyone until I heard a screech and a ~THUMP~ of a body hitting the ground.

I turned blinking as I walked over my ears forward in an inquisitive manner as I came over to where Inuyasha was stuck to the ground “What’s going on?” She looked at me and went red and scooted back even more in to the water “LIE GIRL.” My eyes widened as my rosemary flashed and I crashed right next to Inuyasha “Fuck” my body was twitching as I lay there. “Are ye two alright?” Inuyasha had got his front up this time as he grabbed hold of the rosemary around his neck “Oh man, I forgot about this stupid necklace of yours.”

By this time I was able to move and I got up immediately and went over to Kaede who gave me the clothes she had been holding, I then leaned near her ear “I will need to check on the front ones as they ripped open when Kigomi said the word.” She nodded as I stood up. “Well it serves you right for spying on me you peeping tom!” and just as Inuyasha was about to say something I stood up and walked over to where Kagomi was and she blushed shut her eyes. “SI…” Her eyes blinked open as she looked in to my furious gaze.

“Don’t ever do that again you hear me girl!” She looked nervously at me as she nodded “Good for every time you say that word it hurts me more than him all right!” She nodded again and I let her go and walked away from them both and around the corner to put the clothes on. “Well you deserved that one!” My ears folded back as I knew another screaming match was about to begin “Well if you hadn’t spied on my I would have never said that word in the first place!”

I sighed as I pulled on the Kimono bottoms and tied the string how it was meant to go. “uh, huh, shows what you know the real reason I can was to…” I then put on the top part of the Kimono “Ye really came to steal this shard correct.” I then started my way round the rock “You think your pretty smart don’t you, you old hag!” I finally got round the rock and walked past where Kigomi was still getting dressed “I see ye think to do it alone, do ye?” I stopped to watch Inuyasha and Kaede as they talked.

“Ye forget only yon girl and half-demon can find thou shards, while only ye Inuyasha have strength enough to take them back once found!” A small smile was on my lips as I moved over a bit to look at my water reflection and was startled to see almost what was like a flash back at my own refection “hump, in case you haven’t noticed, I’m still here ain’t I? I can put up with anything for the Jewel” I shook my head my silver hair moving with the movement and looked at my reflection once again but saw nothing in the water.

“You really do hate me don’t you?” I looked over at Kigomi glaring and Inuyasha and then walked over myself. “I don’t think it is you he hates Kigomi.” Kaede’s face turned to me and her expression turned to one of shock. “Ye can’t be can ye?” I looked over at Kaede as did Kagomi who went over to dry out her clothes by the fire.

I then walked over to my clothes and pack and brought them over as well to set them by Kaede when she grabbed my wrist “Huh?” I looked up in to my face and found her staring at my face as though she was seeing something that had been missing. “It is ye isn’t it?” I blinked and tried to pull back my wrist as she was making me nervous until I broke her hold my grip still tight on my clothes and pack as I took several steps backward my ears flat on my head

“Wait, ye do not understand ye should be dead over 51 years ago!” She had caught the attention of Inuyasha and Kagomi who had been glaring at each other. I shook my head as I took another step back “I do not know what you are talking about!” I kept shaking my head as I took another step backwards. “Were ye not the one who was friends with Kikyo sister to me all our young days?” I looked up at her, my eyes haunted and shook my head again as my eyes closed. “I was not born 51 years ago I am only 18 years of age!” and with that I ran in to the forest and hid behind the nearest tree as I slid down to sit on the ground.

“What do you mean she was friends to you and Kikyo when you were young?” My head leaned back as I listened as my tears began to fall down my face. “70 years ago, when Kikyo was but a babe, our mother went in to the forest of Inuyasha to collect herbs for yon young Kikyo. While among the trees of the forest, she heard cries of a youngling and went to look at what caused such noises. She then came across a young Half-Demon barely out of babe age which yon young one would have survived the forest on its own.” My ears were pricked forward as I listened.

“Stepping in to thy clearing she clearly saw the bodies of the parents of yon child and in sympathy took the child into her own arms who had been clinging to the Kimono of the Inu-Demon mother.” My eyes opened as I heard Inuyasha speak up again “Inu-Demon? I though my father was the only Inu-Demon who had been left.” I looked round the tree at the people there as I settled it place. “No Inuyasha there are more Inu-Demon’s they are just hidden from us that is all. Well after taking the young one and checking to be sure the human man was dead and not injured she brought the young one home to Kikyo where she raised the babe. We lost the young one when Kikyo was hunting a flying Demon and it knocked all three of us next to the cliff. Kikyo tried to reach the Half-Demon but alas being too high her grip slipped and she fell into the mists and not seen again until today when a ghost stood in front of me in the same clothes that she wore.”

Then Kagomi’s voice spoke up from where she was standing next to the fire. “what was the Half-Demon’s name?” I shifted and jumped up to the branches as I looked at them all “The child’s name was Shade which I think is no coincidence, that this half-Demon who appeared a week ago has the same name and looks the same!” Kigomi then looked out at the water as I shook my head ‘I can’t be’ “Perhaps she lost her memory of before?” The Kaede looked at her “I think so as well.” I then fled a little way away as my thoughts went in circles, in the my thoughts got so tangled up I slashed my hand across my vision as I closed my eyes and fell instantly better.

When I reopened my eyes a bewildered expression went across my face as I looked at all the felled trees. “eh heh, I am getting stronger and didn’t even notice it.” I then jumped up in to the trees and headed to where Inuyasha and Kigomi were at the fire by the river. As I got back to both of them I could hear Inuyasha hit the ground with a ~THUMP~ and shook my head wandering what he had done this time. Snorting as I came to the utmost edge of the trees I looked for them both and saw Inuyasha on the ground with Kigomi walking away so I followed her through the trees keeping an eye out for trouble as I followed her.

I jumped down when we go near to the well and watched far enough so she did not notice me but close enough to keep her safe if I needed to push her out the way. I could not hear what she was saying at this distance but grew very nervous at how quiet it was. I then looked back at Kagomi and was concerned as she knelt in front of the well. Then I started to move towards her has I felt something was wrong but when I took a step forward I felt something snap across my face and I flinched back as a sharp cut appeared on my skin.

I grimaced and tried to move closing my eyes when I felt something like wire bounding me in place, but it was only when I began to move that whatever it was began to tighten around my neck. My eyes then opened and I looked down at what looked like hair wrapped around my body, snarling soundlessly at the chocking feeling as it wrapped even more securely around my body making sure I could not move an inch while keeping me from being harmed.

I still fort against the hair when I heard Kagomi cry out as she was attacked. I looked over and snarled as I saw someone standing on the hair attacking her with more hairs and I yanked against the hair even as the woman went down and with a sword tried to kill her. At first I thought she had but when I heard Kigomi cry out as she fell in to the well as I could see I felt relief though at this time my lips had pulled back in to a snarl and I tried again to yank myself from the hair.

Just as I was to brake free of the hair that bound me I found more wrapping around me stilling my movements. “My oh my I did not expect to see you again after all these years.” I looked up in to black eyes of someone who I did not know. “Do I know you?” The woman laughed at this and then looked back down at me again as I snarled quite audibly at her. She then came down to me as the hair she stood on lowered her, then I jerked back as she brought forward a hand and brushed her it through my hair as another snarl worked out of my throat.

“Come now don’t tell me you have forgotten me, try to remember at least my name.” I then felt more hairs slip around my body and bound my head in place so I could not move at all and at this it sparked something of in my memory my eyes then widened in fright. “You are Yura of the Hair, you bound me and used me against the people I care about.” She smiled at this. “Very good, though remember” she came right next to me her mouth next to my ear even as it folded back away from her “You are mine.” She then began to walk along the hair and took me with her towards the village.

Yura then settled on a branch and had me placed where she could watch me out the corner of her eye as she began to direct the hair to attack whoever it was she wanted to add to her collection. Then when the hair began to stretch in her hands she flicked them “Aww so sorry.” I then watched as she made a new patten with the hair in her hands “Perhaps its time to tie things up!” Then when I heard the cry of Inuyasha I looked up and paled at what I could see. Inuyasha was trapped against the tree by the hair. “Hmm, like what you see my pet?” I looked back up at her as best I could and snarled again not bothering to answer with words. “Aww, soon he will be dead and I’ll add him to my collection and then I will teach you for running away from me all those years ago.” I snorted through my nose at this not bothering to give her an answer as I knew she would cut off my words with a yank of the hair around my neck.

Then the hair went slack in her hands “The hair is slack, the cut was not clean!” I smirked at this even as she pulled me up in front of her and began to tighten the hair more so my blood would run down the hair. She then began to pull up a string of the hair until she came to one of Inuyasha’s hairs stuck on the hair. “Oh what pretty silver hair, the same colour as yours my pretty.” I growled at her as my anger started to get stronger than my rational thought. “Come, we are going after him!”

She then swung down on the hair with me following behind tied up even tighter causing me to close my eyes as we moved. “He’s stubborn but also fun and I positively must have this pretty silver hair of his.” She then looked back at me. “Almost as much fun as you are.” I just bared my fangs at her feeling De-ja-vu at having done this before and not having a very good ending.

Then we landed near the well and she bound me with more hair and set me down. “Do not move and I will be back to get the boys pretty silver hair that is so much like yours.” She then smiled and walked off along the hair leaving me with no way to move at all. A snarl burst out of my throat as I struggled to get the hair off my body but it only tightened more, cutting my skin even nastier and if not treated, leave scars on my skin if I was not half-demon. I then stopped struggling and looked up at the sky hoping help would come and free me before I found out what Yura wanted with me.
