“What the fuck was that for?”
They stood apologetically in front of him, discreetly blocking his view of the café. “Let’s go somewhere else shall we?” Kagome said in a falsely cheery voice. Miroku looked at her with a dangerous glint in his eye, “No, we will not. We will go to that café and you all will explain to me what is going on or else I’ll suck you all up in my wind tunnel.”
“well, um…” Kagome looked at the others for help but they all stepped back.
“Well?” Miroku could feel a vein throbbing in his temple.
“I saw my ex boyfriend.” Kikyo cut in, “The abusive one? Onigumo?”
“Uh yeah, and Kikyo didn’t want to see him so he bolted out of there.” Kagome finished.
“why did you have to drag me out?” Miroku narrowed his eyes at his sweat dropping friends.
“Because we were hoping that in the ruckus, Onigumo wouldn’t notice Kikyo.” Inuyasha summarized, “And you were the lucky pick to be the distraction. Sorry about that buddy.”
Miroku eyed them suspiciously and decided to believe them for the moment. He turned around and jammed his hands into his pockets. He could hear an audible sigh of relief from the group.
“How about McDonalds?” Kagome suggested tentatively.
“Have you seen the movie Super Size me? I can’t believe that you would want to eat at such a cheap unhealthy place.” Kikyo sniffed
“Well you got anyplace better?” Kagome snapped back
“No,” Kikyo sighed, “McDonalds it is.”
Half an hour later, they sat on the plastic seats of the fast food restaurant. Miroku ate his chicken nuggets in what he thought was a dignified silence while Inuyasha shoved hamburgers into his mouth, growling with satisfaction. Kagome and Kikyo both eyed him in fond disgust as they delicately ate their fries. Miroku sighed sitting back in his chair, thinking. What were his friends hiding? He didn’t buy that story about Onigumo at all. Inuyasha had permanently put him in the hospital and Kagome and Miroku had made sure that he had stayed there. Unless Onigumo had gotten out of his coma from Inuyasha throwing him into a car, it wasn’t very likely that he would walk into a small café.
Miroku knew his friends, they didn’t lie to him unless they thought it was for his benefit. So either they hiding a clown for his surprise party or….Miroku sat bolt upright. Sango. There was no other explanation.
‘Something wrong Miroku?” Kagome’s voice broke through his thoughts. Miroku gave her his stoniest face ever and grabbed his jacket, almost knocking the chair over as he stood up.
“Miroku?” Kikyo looked at him in surprise. Miroku ignored them both and stalked out of the fast food store.
“Mi-ruh-kooh!! Where-yooh goin?!” Inuyasha yelled after him with a burger in his mouth.
“Where he goin?” Miroku heard him ask the two sisters. Miroku saw them shrug and Kagome stand up about to follow him. Kikyo grabbed her arm and shook her head. Miroku could feel her watching him in worry and he hurried his pace.
How could they hide something that was that important to him? They knew how much Miroku wanted her, no, needed her. And still they hid something that important from him. What had exactly happened at the café? Sango had probably walked into the café. She had been there and Miroku hadn’t been able to see her. He clenched his fists and leaned against the brick wall of a tall building.
Rain drops softly fell onto his head. Bowing his head forward, he drew out a picture that he now kept in his wallet. It had been taken during their anniversary. Sango was laughing, her brown eyes crinkled with mirth as Miroku tackled her from behind, a bouquet of lilies in his right hand. She was wearing a pink and white sweater that Miroku had give her on her birthday and green sweat pants that she had stolen from Kagome. Miroku smiled, he remembered the look on her face when she opened the door, expecting the mailman, only to get a face full of flowers and chocolate.
“Here can you mail-Miroku? What are these?” Sango asked in surprise as she opened the door, a newly closed envelope in her hand.
“Happy Anniversary Sango!!” Miroku’s grinning face appeared from behind the bouquet of white lilies, her favorite flowers. Sango looked even more surprised.
“You remembered?”
“Of course I did!” Miroku didn’t understand why she would say that.
Now he did. He should have seen the warning signs of her mistrust in him. But he missed them and he was now paying. Miroku looked again at the picture, smoothing out the creases in the corners. He frowned, trying to remember the details. Ah yes he remembered, the first time that Sango had almost let him go all the way.

“Miroku!” Sango laughed as he tackled her onto her sofa, fake growling into her shoulder. Miroku looked down at Sango’s upturned face as she laughed, trying to gently buck him off. He ignored her half hearted attempts and leaned down to press his lips to hers. Sango stopped struggling in surprised before her eyes gently closed and she pressed her soft lips against his in response. Satisfied with her response, Miroku let his tongue beg her lips for entrance. She complied and Miroku’s tongue searched every crevice of the sweet cavern.
While she was distracted with his kisses, Miroku deftly undid the sash that held her sweater together. Sango barely seemed to notice the cashmere sliding from her shoulders as she moaned into his mouth. Miroku felt his arousal spike at the sound as he pushed one strap of her camisole down her rounded shoulder. Sango moaned in his ear as he nibbled on her curved neck. Miroku gently nibbled his way down her neck and kissed the curve of her breast. Sango moaned as she pressed herself against his face. Miroku growled in agreement and he licked a path down to her nipple, taking it in his lips. Sango moaned even more loudly as Miroku sucked and nibbled the nipple into a pebble. When he moved over to the other one, Sango suddenly shoved him off.
“Sango?” Miroku looked at her in surprise as Sango shoved her jacket on, tears in her eyes and she stomped up the stairs.
To this day, Miroku still wondered what he had done.
