~~Chapter 4: Problems~~
Mrs. Higurashi’s (Kaoru) meeting of Inuyasha and his family went pretty well. That was, until Inuyasha actually got home from school. Once he walked in the door Kagome’s mother’s jaw dropped. “You are all demon’s aren’t you?”
Mr. Inomaru (Inutaisho) nodded his head in agreement. “Yes.” He really didn’t expect to get that type of reaction from her. Most people were terrified the moment they found out.
“I can’t allow her to be exposed to this.” Kaoru said flatly, low enough so only he could hear.
Inutaisho chuckled; she was smart to figure he could hear her. “Inuyasha, take Kagome outside and play while the adults talk.” As soon as they were out of earshot he turned his attention back to her. “Do you think I don’t smell it on you? A human such as you should have also known as soon as they walked in that I was a demon. But it took the sight of my hanyou son to clue you in. May I ask why?”
“I have no power. I have been drained.” She said, a frown falling on her lips.
Knowing that being a miko was genetic, he began to wonder why the little girl didn’t smell like one as well. “Is there a reason your child is without the power?”
She gulped. She had never had to tell this to anyone else, but she wasn’t stupid. A demon would get it out of her, one way or the other, but that didn’t mean she had to tell the truth. “I was weak when I conceived her, the powers must not have passed.”
But Inutaisho knew better than that, after all, he had been around for nearly 900 years now. Sesshoumaru had come to him earlier, telling him how the girl was completely healed by the time she left and that she could see his demon markings. That and he had managed to pry out of Inuyasha her initial condition the night of the accident. She healed far too quickly, even for a miko. But he would let her think otherwise. It was not often that Inuyasha got to play with an actual friend. “Then you will have no problem with her coming over to play with Inuyasha. She will never forget him, and she already knows what he is, if I know my son. Plus, are you really not going to let her see someone who protected her?”
Kaoru shifted in her seat uncomfortably. Exposing her to demons could have some pretty big side effects. Side effects that she wasn’t quite ready for yet. However, refusing would only raise more suspicion. She needed to go along with it so she nodded her head in agreement. “She can come over whenever she likes. I won’t keep her away, just make sure she stays out of harms way.”
Inutaisho could see the fatigue all over her. She was exhausted. “If you would like, I will keep Kagome until later this evening so you can get some rest. It would be no trouble and I would take her back.”
Kaoru’s face lit up when he said those words. Kagome had been driving her crazy the last two days. Having just had the baby and dealing with Kagome was exhausting her. All she wanted was a nap before the baby came home. “I would like that very much, thank you.”

For the next year Kagome and Inuyasha rarely left each other’s side. As soon as she got home from school she ate and then waited for Inutaisho and Inuyasha to come get her. They would sit and play all afternoon until it was time for her to go home. That was, until the day they met Kouga.
Kagome and Inuyasha were playing outside when they heard someone holler hey. When they both turned around Kagome saw a young boy, while Inuyasha saw a young wolf demon. Kagome waved back, being the sweet girl that she was, while Inuyasha just growled. She smacked him on the arm. “Be nice.”
Kouga ran up to what seemed, at first, two young boys. He had just moved in the neighborhood and was itching to have some fun. As he got close and the wind changed directions, blowing their scent straight to him, he could tell that one of them was a girl, and a human girl at that. He could also tell that the boy was a hanyou, and from the looks of it, thought he was intruding on his territory. Ignoring the growling, he turned to the girl. She seemed nice enough. “Hey, my names Kouga. I just moved here.”
He had the prettiest blue eyes she had ever seen. Everyone around the area seemed to have the prettiest eyes, while she just had plain brown eyes. Her smile widened and she elbowed Inuyasha in the ribs, warning him to stop growling. “I’m Kagome and this is Inuyasha.” She said cheerily.
Kouga nearly fell over laughing. A human GIRL was telling a hanyou what to do and beating him up. Now that was a funny sight.
Kagome stood over Kouga with a look of confusion. “What’s so funny?”
Kouga couldn’t stop laughing. He tried to get it out, but failed miserably. “You… human… girl… hanyou… beat…”
Inuyasha wasn’t stupid however, and immediately knew what he was talking about. “It’s not funny!” He growled at the laughing form of Kouga on the ground. “Stop laughing or else!” He threatened.
At the threat, Kouga stopped laughing, but a smirk was still placed on his lips as he stood up and faced a now red Inuyasha. “You think a half-breed can do any damage to a full-blooded youkai?”
Now Inuyasha might have only been seven, but his temper was still hot. The half-breed jokes were really starting to make him mad. In a flash he had punched Kouga square in the nose and watched him fall to the ground, a smug look settling over his features.
Kagome looked at Inuyasha in shock and ran to Kouga’s side. “Inuyasha! Look what you’ve done! There is blood all over the place! Kouga are you okay?”
He smiled up at her. He hadn’t noticed before now, but underneath all those boy clothes she had a really pretty face. He jumped up and wiped the blood from his nose with his sleeve. “I’m fine, thanks.” He walked over to Inuyasha, still smiling. “Not bad for a mutt. Maybe I will have some fun after all.” With that he lunged at Inuyasha, so fast that Kagome couldn’t even follow his movements.
Kagome began to panic as she watched the two boys fight. There was blood flying everywhere, they weren’t playing. “Stop!” She screamed.
Kouga wrapped his clawed hand around Inuyasha’s throat and threw him to the ground in what he thought was a winning move. He could feel the exhaustion coming off the hanyou, and all he had to do was hold on just a little bit longer. But to his amazement, Inuyasha’s scent spiked with power as his eyes glazed over with red. He couldn’t move as he watched Inuyasha’s claws lengthen and purple stripes form on his face. He smelled of a full-blooded youkai. In an instant Inuyasha was on top of Kouga, squeezing the life out of him.
Kagome watched in horror at Inuyasha’s transformation. She had to stop this. “Stop this right now!” She said, grabbing hold of Inuyasha. In an instant she was flying through the air and into the nearby tree, knocking her out cold, but not before she screamed.
Her scream let a little reality seep back into his mind, and he realized what he had done. Leaving a half-conscious Kouga behind him he ran to Kagome’s side. He tried to wake her, but she wouldn’t wake up. “Kagome, please wake up!” He pleaded.
Kouga made his way over to them and sat down beside Inuyasha. “Good going mutt-face now look what you’ve done.”
Inuyasha flashed him a snarl, but kept his eyes on Kagome. “I didn’t mean to.”
“But you did it. She won’t wake up. She’s only a weak human.”
“Will too.”
“Will not.”
“Too.”
“Not.”
Neither one of them were paying attention to her for their little spat, but in an instant their eyes were drawn to her as a moan escaped her lips. “S… to… p.”
They both gasped as they looked at her. They looked at each other for reassurance that what they were seeing was real, and it was. Kagome was glowing in a pale pink light as she began to awaken. As her lids fluttered open they revealed silver orbs with specs of gold instead of her soft brown ones. They were both stunned, but in a matter of seconds it was all over, and she was awake.
She looked at them both curiously. “What are you both staring at?”
“Um… Kagome… I think we need to take you back to your mom’s house. You… uh… kinda… uh… got hurt in the fight.” Inuyasha stammered out, still kind of freaked out.
Kouga quickly got up and said his goodbyes. Not really wanting to see the aftermaths. “See ya around Kagome!”
Kagome was taken home soon after and Inutaisho chuckled on the way home. Oh how he loved being right. Inuyasha looked at him funny. “What’s so funny father? I hurt her. I messed her up somehow.”
He glanced over at his son and smiled. “You’ll understand one day. For now all you need to know is that she will be fine.”

Kaoru checked Kagome out thoroughly as soon as she walked in the door. She could tell that her powers had surfaced; she still had specs of silver in her eyes. She had to do something about this. She couldn’t keep her powers hidden around demons. She was panicking. She had to get as far away as possible.
