~~~Chapter 4: Oops~~~
“Oh! Kagome, I was supposed to tell you to get in touch with Inuyasha, the actor playing Sora.” Sango had completely forgotten about him until she brought up seeing Kirara at the party. She really didn’t think he was important, just another pretty boy out to get her best friend. She had pretty good instincts.
Kagome just smiled, staring into her drink, never meeting Sango’s eyes. She had wanted to tell her so badly earlier, but now she didn’t want her to know what she felt. She would meddle, tease her, and just make the situation worse.
Somehow or the other she always made things worse, but she just couldn’t keep it in any longer. “I know. I met him in the gardens tonight. We spoke.” She had said it so coolly she thought she had disguised her interest. But based on the reaction of Sango, apparently not so well.
Sango eyed her friend suspiciously. She knew that look, even if she was trying to hide it. Now she understood why she had been so cheery all night. Why she had been so out of it.
She couldn’t let her get into this kind of situation. She didn’t need this in her career. She needed to warn her. “Kagome, he’s engaged. You can look, but don’t touch.”
Kagome’s smile faded slightly, although she couldn’t quite figure out why this bothered her so much. It was perfect that he was attached. There was no way she was ready to be in another relationship yet. She didn’t have the time for one either.
She tried to hide her disappointment and her smile widened. “Great! That means I don’t have to worry about him hitting on me! Unlike Kouga, who just won’t leave me alone and is always trying to get in my pants. Why did Miroku have to hire him for the lead?” Kagome was praying she would take the bait and change the subject. It made her uncomfortable and she didn’t like it.
Sango knew she was avoiding Inuyasha as the subject, but obliged anyway. She really didn’t want to start an argument right now. Kagome always did keep things to herself, but Sango just attributed it to her childhood. Prying would only cause her to get defensive. Sooner or later it would come out. “You know Miroku. He thinks you two have great screen chemistry, even if you are repulsed by him off camera.” She laughed at the thought. “Maybe you should not act so well.”
“It’s not funny!” Kagome retorted, sticking out her tongue. “I don’t like it when he tries to slobber all over me when he kisses me. Who knows what girl’s ass his lips have touched? You see all the sleazy girls he totes around. I mean yuck!”
Shippou sleepily stepped out from inside his room. He had been listening to the girls chatter like squirrels for hours now and had enough of it. She needed to get up in the morning and he was going to have to be the one to get her up. “Kagome, you need to go to bed. You need to be up in seven hours. You know Kimmi will kill you if she has to cover circles under your eyes from lack of sleep.”
He walked to the couch where Sango and Kagome were sitting and plopped himself down beside the two. “Plus your big mouths keep waking me up! If you two could keep quiet I wouldn’t have woke up, and then you could have stayed up. But since you woke me up…”
Kagome shoved him off the couch and he hit the floor with a thud. “Go back to bed already. I’ll be going in a minute. And just to let you know, I have to be up in four hours not seven. I have a meeting with someone tomorrow morning.”
Her hand flew to her mouth, knowing that she had made a mistake. Nobody had known that she was going to see Inuyasha before she opened her big mouth. They both would know something was up because they both knew she wasn’t a morning person at all. In fact, she was quite difficult to get up on time. She knew they wouldn’t let it go either.
Sango and Shippou eyed her suspiciously and almost in unison enquired about the person. “Oh really? Who?”
Kagome sighed and looked to both of them in defeat. She knew she couldn’t get around it now. “I am meeting Inuyasha tomorrow morning to go over our lines. Nothing more!”
Sango leapt to her feet. “I would hope not! He’s practically married! And quite loyal, from what I could see at the party. He showed no interest in the flocks of women after him last night. In fact, he looked a little annoyed at the attention. Kirara had to continuously save him, if you could call it that. Even she had a hard time getting them off.”
Shippou glared at Kagome through his sleepy eyes. “How in the hell am I supposed to get you up THAT early? You can barely wake up at 9 am!”
“I’ll get myself up, thank you very much. Now go back to bed.” Kagome stomped off into her bedroom, slamming the door. She hated how everyone was always in her life and just couldn’t butt out. She hated the fact that it hurt her to find out he was engaged. She needed to go to bed and get this day over with as soon as possible.
“Do you think I should keep a closer eye on her tomorrow?” Shippou asked sleepily rubbing his eyes.
Sango sighed. “Even though her eyes can’t lie about how she feels, I think she will keep herself out of trouble. Plus she isn’t ready for another relationship yet. There shouldn’t be too much to worry about.” She yawned and slowly stood up. “I think I am ready for bed.”
Shippou just nodded his head and crashed on his bed, Sango closing the door after him.
Sango really didn’t think Kagome was stupid enough to let this little crush of hers go any further, but that’s not what worried her. She was worried that this had crushed what little hope Kagome had left in finding someone. If she hid anymore from her, she would have to starting forcing the information out.
I know this chapter is really short, but it’s mostly filler so. I swear I’ll get more into the story as the chapters go in. R&R
