Kissing Cousins

Chapter Four

Kagome felt Sango tense and placed a hand on her arm, "Nice to meet you, Shuichi." She tried to smile at him. "Something smells great, I'm starving."

"Yes, here I'll sit next to Shuichi and let you two girls sit together." Shiori scooted in the booth and smiled up at them.

"Actually, we are going to hit the restroom and be right back I promise. I'm feeling a little ill," She tried not to stumble over her lie.

"Oh dear, you will be okay won't you? Do I need to call the doctor for you?"

"Nope, I'll be fine. Please don't worry, excuse us." She walked with Sango beside her trying not to let her stress show. She pushed open the door letting them both in. She checked under all the stalls to make sure they were alone.

"Kagome why did you bring us in here? That woman has the right to know that isn't her son. There is no way in hell she's his mother. I say we go in that room and demand he tell us where the real Shuichi is." Sango was furious, that woman believed that youkai was her son. "He's a kitsune, just like Shippo; most of them have the ability to take the form of others."

"Yeah, I know. He's also the guy that hit on me in the store yesterday. He was with two other males like I already mentioned. One of them had to be a hanyou, very powerful though. This guy also called Shuichi by the name of Kurama."

"See that's all the proof we need. I say we go out there and make him tell us where the real Shuichi is." Sango had her hand on the door.

"Wait let's think about this. There has to be a reason why he is posing as her son. If I'm guessing right there might a group of them in on it. If something happens with the fake, they might kill the real one. We have to think this through and not act rash. I say we go out there and act like nothing is wrong. We can discuss it later when we get home. Don't let him on to the fact that we suspect anything. I'll continue sheilding myself and you just try being polite okay."

"Fine but we will do something about this." Sango opened the door and they walked back out. She tried smiling at the red head. She scooted in the leaving Kagome to be the one facing the man. "Sorry about that."

"No worries, I hope you are okay Kagome." Shiori eyed the girl, looking for any signs of fatique. "Just let us know if you need to rest dear."

"I'm fine thank you, what's good here?" She sat down across from Kurama, that had to be his real name. Their waiter came up take the orders. Shiori started asking questions about both girls, Kagome had to think on her feet and lie. She couldn't tell them how her and Sango actually met. Or where Sango was born or what year for that matter.

Kurama watched both girls, she was lying. Why would she lie about about how they met or when the other girl was born? Was her friend hiding some deep dark secret? He knew all about those, he had more than his share. For a brief second he caught Sango's menacing stare. Seemed Kagome had told her friend about the store incident. How was he to have known that she was his cousin? He wanted to curse his luck.

His eyes ran over the girl sitting across from him eating her breakfast and making small talk with his mother. She was very beautiful and something about her drew him. He wouldn't deny the fact that he was attracted to her. It was something else that seemed to call to him, he wondered what. Not that it mattered, she was related to him. A relationship between them could never be possible.

Something told him they would never be friends either. Yusuke had probably seen to that with his rude uncalled for comment. He had already yelled at the boy for it once already, seemed he'd have to do so again. Since now his cousin thought he'd been trying to get her in bed. His eyes roamed over her, the prospect was very appealing. He scolded himself for the thought and turned his eyes to his food.

Kagome tried to relax as they went through their breakfast. Shiori seemed unaware of the tension at the table. She chattered happily about the family, that she was glad to finally meet her niece. Now her Shuichi not only had a brother but a cousin around his age. She heard Sango snort at the comment, "Yes, well I hate to eat and run but we have work tonight. Need to get some rest before we head in. Thank you so much for the meal."

"Oh before I forget, I want to invite you two to dinner this weekend. Shuichi is going out of town but we'd like for you to come."

"Sorry, we plan on heading back to the shrine to grab some little things that we forgot and will be gone all weekend. How about we stop by when we get back?" Kagome made the offer.

"That would be lovely, maybe we can make it a late Sunday dinner then." Shiori smiled at them.

"Sounds great. It was nice meeting you Shuichi." She looked into his green eyes feeling drawn as he looked up at her.

"Likewise, Kagome. Pleasure to meet you also Sango." The other girl merely nodded at him, she didn't seem to like him already. He watched them leave and noticed he wasn't the only male doing so.

"Such sweet girls." Shiori picked up her cup of coffee and took a sip.


Kagome sat on the couch sipping her tea, "I say we follow him this weekend. Good chance he's going to back to where the real Shuichi is. If not then maybe we can find out some information."

"What if he catches us following him?"

"He won't, I'll shield us and stay out of eye range. I'll just follow his aura, find out where he is going. There has to be a reason for him to be there. Maybe they are keeping the real Shuichi for a reason and need him there so no one will notice his absence."

Sango sat down next to her, "I didn't move here to get tangled up in this shit. Why couldn't your family be normal?"

"Hey, it's not my fault. Besides we can probably save the live of an innocent man just by being here and caring. Think of poor Shiori, she actually believes that he is her son. We are doing a good thing here." Kagome smirked into her cup. "Then again we might die for trying to play hero."

"Thanks. If we go, we go prepared for battle. We have no idea where he is going to lead us."
