Chapter 3

Kagome whimpered against the back of the Youkai woman’s yukata as she stared Inuyasha down. The way she had grabbed that shimandachi and growled at it was like Sesshomaru growling at Inuyasha when they fought. It scared her, but it gave off a feeling safety, so unlike Sesshomaru’s.

The female Hanyou innerved her in more ways than one. She seemed so knowledgeable on some things but completely clueless on others. Her past was a complete blank she didn’t know about many kinds of Youkai and she seemed very sheltered in more ways than one. She seemed… haunted, her eyes always a stormy blue-gray.

Kagome couldn’t deny that she was beautiful, from the red tips of her ears to her dainty upturned nose to her full lips and hair she was one breathtaking demoness. But it was amazing on how much of her own power she didn’t know she had. She often helped Kaede kill demons that had ventured too close to the village when her and Inuyasha were out shard hunting and would take them down with no problems and no human deaths. Her claws seemed razor sharp and strong as steel and she often used them as scissors to cut bandages to be ready for travel and food for rations was easily dug up and cut, as she seemed excellent on helping Kaede do her chores. She also was a fabulous cook and now a warrior.

Her inhumanly beautiful face now looked positively sadistic as she stared at Inuyasha. She lifted her hand from the tip of the sword and drew her fingers into a fist, the knuckles cracking. “You haven’t the slightest inkling at my power. I could…” she leaned closer to him and growled loud enough for the rest of us to hear, “kill you with a simple word or command. I could take control over your very mind, your being. Do not tempt me.” She grinned at him, her fangs glinting in the light. “I am nearly a full blood Youkai; a mix between an Inu and a Neko and a human. My true form is also a mix with characteristics from both demon sides; my human side is barely there.”

Inuyasha snarled and clenched his jaw. His scowl suddenly turned into a sensual smirk that melted Kagome’s knees. “A Hanyou is still a Hanyou, even if you have three/ fourths demon blood. You still have Human blood.” He snarled the last.

Kagome could tell he was fixing to attack again so she did the only thing she was able to do. “Inuyasha.” He looked at her. She smiled at him sweetly trying to get him to stop. But, inevitably, she hung her head as he got into his crouching position that he used when he was going to jump and said low, “Osuwari!” He yelped and hit the ground hard. Kagome got out from behind her and bowed. “Arigato, for saving me. We don’t even know your name.”

Her angry features softened immediately and she bowed. “Gomen nasai, Kagome-san. Watashi wa no namae Adian des.” She bowed again, this time toward Inuyasha, who had stood up and crossed his arms across his chest. “I hope we understand one another, Inuyasha-san.” Her eyes glinted in the darkness as she glared at him. She turned around gracefully and walked toward Kaede’s hut. She stopped at the opening and held out her clawed hand. “Come on, Kagome-san. We must get that wound taken care of or you’ll get infection.”

Inuyasha took a deep breath and then flinched as Kagome glared, turning her blue gaze on him. “Inuyasha….” She shook her head. “Osuwari.” He landed with a crash. She glared at him once more before taking hold of Adian’s hand with her uninjured one and walked with her into Kaede’s hut.

“So you saved her and scared the living shit out of Inuyasha and Kikyo’s shimandachi? That is ludicrous!” The amorous Houshi Miroku stared at the female Hanyou as she and Kagome retold the tale while they were bandaging her hand that had been cut in the battle. He wanted to laugh at the thought of the soul stealer flying like a bat out of hell. Sango was openly laughing when he noticed that Inuyasha had not once entered the hut. He also noticed that Kagome was sitting close to the other female and it was obvious that the Hanyou was agitated. “So Kagome-sama, was it trying to capture you or what?”

“I think so. I was returning early, Kaede-baa-chan directed me to where they were, and going to see Inuyasha as a surprise when it attacked me. Adian-san was just returning from a talk with Inuyasha when she saw it and attacked it. She had her claws wrapped around the head and was growling. Her growling is even more scary than Sesshomaru’s.”

“Adian? Is that her name?” Sango stared at the Hanyou woman whose head was staring at the ceiling and she tapped her fingers against her arm impatiently.

“Hai. She told us so. Inuyasha got mad because he smelled my blood and that she had threatened Kikyo with instant death if she attempted to abduct me or any of us again.”

“Inuyasha-san, if you are going to spy, don’t you think you’d find a better hiding place than up on the ceiling?”

“I’m not spying! I’m merely relaxing in the cool night air.”

“You are a terrible liar. I hope you’ve come to terms with the unusual truth that I’ve spoken to you earlier. I’m sorry you had to find out that way, but perhaps this is a turning point in your life to seek others.” Adian was eying the ceiling with disdain and waiting for an answer. “Look, I’m tired of arguing between a roof. Either you come down here, or I’ll go up there and we’ll let the whole village hear our conversation. Take your pick, Inuyasha-san.” She looked at the occupants of the hut and cocked her head. They were all staring at her like she’d grown a second head.

“Adian-sama, how did you know that he was up there?” Sango asked.

She tapped her nose and let a little smile cross her lips and then tapped her ears. “He is very noisy and has a distinct smell, like the outdoors and cinnamon and trees. That’s his smell. Kagome smells like lavender and a bit like Inuyasha; I suppose that’s from riding on his back all the time. Kirara smells a bit like sulfur and Shippo-san smells like aloe and ferns and grapes. Houshi-sama smells like sandalwood and religious smoke. You, Sango-sama, smell like sulfur from Kirara and apples, though I have no idea why.” She rubbed her head. “Do you eat apples a lot?”

“I used to, when I was younger. Does that mean anything?”

“Yes, actually. Since you ate a lot of apples, the scent and juice and general ‘appleness’ of the fruit has seeped into your body and becoming one with you. Do you bathe with apple scented soaps?”

“Hai. Kagome-chan brings them from her time. I like the smell and so does Kirara and Kagome-chan, so I use it.”

The Hanyou nodded. “Yep, that explains it. Though, the lot of you are much more cleaner than the rest of the humans and demons that I’ve smelt. It is a good thing. I have a highly sensitive nose.” She cocked an eyebrow as Inuyasha swept inside the hut with a huff and sat down glaring at Adian. “What is wrong Inuyasha? Cat got your tongue?” She smirked at the pun.

“I just don’t see how what you are saying could be possible. I’ve… never smelt that particular stench on her.” He glanced at Kagome. “Plus, she hates Naraku with a passion.”

“Evidently a new kind of passion,” she murmured and ignored his snarl. “Look, next time you meet her, and I’m not saying you should actively seek her out because you may see something that you will regret, take a good sniff.” She patted his head and stood up and stretched. “I need to get out of here. Sayonara.” She hurried out the door.

Inuyasha took a deep breath and turned his head towards Kagome. She was looking down at her hand and flexing it, but he could smell her distress and pain even though she didn’t show it. His ears flattened down against his head as he spoke in a neutral tone, fearing her reaction. “Um… Kagome, can I talk to you for a second?”

Kagome lifted her head and Inuyasha’s breath caught in his throat. Her eyes were glazed over and he could see unshed tears. She nodded mutely and took his outstretched hand with her uninjured one and allowed him to lead her out of the hut into the dark night.

Back in the hut, Sango looked a Kaede and Miroku and shrugged. “I don’t understand what’s going on with those two, or rather three.”

“Me either. But I suppose they will work it out themselves.” Miroku murmured and held his beloved Sango’s hand. He would be polite this evening and not rub the thing he desired most to touch. Sango leaned into his touch and he was quite surprised but gave into her and rubbed his thumb over her knuckles with his cursed hand.

“Goodnight, Houshi-sama, Kaede-baa-chan, Shippo-chan.”

“Goodnight, Sango-chan.” Miroku murmured.
