Learn to be Lonely

Inu yasha decided he liked this pizza stuff, though he didn’t too much care for the smelly little fish Sachi called anchovies. They all sat on the couch talking about the school place that Kagome had to go to. Another thing he didn’t to much care for. As far as he was concerned anything that made Kagome so worried, what with its ‘tests’ and ‘homework’ was a bad place.

After the pizza was finished off, Mahiru took out these little white fluffy things she called marshmallows. They were the best things Inu yasha had ever tasted (well maybe except for ramen). He especially liked them after they had been held over the fire for a while, they were gooey and kinda of creamy, but oh so sweet.

It wasn’t long after the marshmallows that the girls started dropping like flies. Sachi fell asleep on the floor using the marshmallow bag as a pillow. Next Kashi fell asleep in a big comfy chair. Mahiru ended up slouched over the couch in an awkward angle, her constant chatter soon turned into deep snores. Kagome was the last to fall asleep. But when she did, she simply faded off while sitting up on the couch.

Inu yasha found that he wasn’t very tired. After all he hadn’t really done much today. First he had been in a car for half the morning, then rushed back into a car to go up to town. Considering his daily routine centered around fighting demons and protecting Kagome, he was still bursting with energy. He kinda wished the girls were still awake, at least then he would have had some company.

Surprisingly he was kind of looking forward to spending a whole week with Kagome and her friends. It might be fun to spend some time with Kagome without having to save her from a demon every other day. Inu yasha stood up and moved some maroon throw pillows to where he had been sitting. Careful not to wake her, he laid Kagome down. She looked so peaceful.

He walked out of the living room into the kitchen, it was similar to Kagomes house. There was a refrigerator, a stove and a sink. There were lots of cupboards, the whole place matched the rest of the house with its cherry wood surfaces, the floor was wooden and creaked slightly under Inu yasha’s bare feet. There was a sliding glass door that led to the porch and hot tub, beyond that, the tree’s seemed endless. Inu yasha opened the fridge and grabbed a coke, then headed back into the living room.

Mahiru was now at an even more awkward angle. Inu yasha fought the temptation to tug on her foot a bit and send her tumbling to the floor. In the end he ended up just going upstairs. He passed the loft on his way up, there wasn’t anything to interesting just some more comfy chairs and a desk with a light on it. Pretty simple. When he went up stairs he found 5 bedrooms and a bathroom. Each room with its own bed and dresser. He had been up here earlier with Kagome to put his new cloths away. He went to what was now his room and sat on the bed.

The blankets were warm and soft, they were dark red with golden flowers embroidered on the edges. The pillows were the same matching colors with similar patterns. There was one large window in his room, it looked out onto the lake. The moon was half full, shinning on the lakes surface.

‘I wish Kagome could see this’ he marveled over the way the moon seemed to be caressing the forest with its brilliance. Even through the closed window Inu yasha could smell the fresh pine.

‘A walk would be nice.’

He opened the window and climbed out onto the porch. Without so much as a glance back he leapt out into the wilderness. The wind flowed over his bare arms as he walked toward the lake. The trees seemed to be crying as the wind blew through there branches creating a symphony of sorts. The cicadas chimed as they joined the sad song.. The waves rolled gently on the lakes shore, the surface reminded Inu yasha of a black pearl. He walked out into the lake and stood in the ankle deep water, the sand felt good under his feet.

The wind was much stronger out on the lake without the trees to break its flow.
Inu yasha’s white hair flew back making waves of its own. He felt kind of naked in the tank top Kagome had gotten him. He looked up at the moon without the glass separating him from its gaze. He closed his eyes and inhaled deeply. His relaxation did not last long. His eyes flickered open as his white ears swiveled about on his head. A voice. He could hear a voice, it was soft and luxurious. It was calling to him. No it was singing to him.

Child of the wilderness, born into emptiness
Learn to be lonely, learn to find your way in darkness.
Who will be there for you?
Comfort and care for you?
Learn to be lonely; learn to be your one companion.

He tried to pinpoint the source of the voice, but it seemed to be coming from every tree, on every moon beam, enveloping him in a soft blanket. He couldn’t find it in himself to move, he was hypnotized by the loving voice that seemed to know him so well.

Ever dream, out in the world, there are arms to hold you?
You’ve always known your heart was on its own
So laugh in your loneliness child of the wilderness
Learn to be lonely, learn how to love life that is lived alone
Learn to be lonely, life can be lived live can be loved alone…

As the voice faded away it was smothered by the sounds of the forest, which were no longer comforting in comparison. Inu yasha felt as if a hole had been left in his chest. He found that he could now move, as he looked around, everything was as it should have been. He started to wonder if anything had happened at all, but in his heart he could hear the voice’s words echoing.

“What the hell was that…”

As he walked back to the Cabin, he felt more isolated than he had ever felt before, more alone. As he leapt into his window he closed it behind him. Settling himself between his sheets he fought hard to find sleep.

‘I don’t want to be alone…’ he thought as the dark veil of sleep took him.

A/N: How was it? Kinda boring so far but its about to take on a new twist. I know this song was in my one shot, but I loved it so much I decided to intergrate it into this one too. Anyway I'll try to update again as soon as possible. Reveiw please.
