Matchmaker

Rin sat against the tree she decided was her favorite and watched the others. Throughout her long life she had discovered that she enjoyed watching people. It had been centuries since she'd seen another human, like herself. She'd grown up around youkai, though most tended to ignore her. Which was fine she prefered to be in the background. Sesshoumaru never let her near combat and had refused her any kind of training.

Yusuke and Kuwabara were outside sparring while everyone watched. Seeing the two pound on each other was amusement enough. Yukina came to sit next to her, planting herself on the blanket. "Why do they do that?"

"Practice, they always train here. Genkai is an excellent teacher." Yukina let out some kind of mewing sound when Kuzuma was knocked backwards. "I hope he's okay."

"He looks sturdy. Do you fight?"

"No, I'm not a fighter." Yukina's eyes drifted over to Hiei.

Rin watched her eyes. The small man glanced their way and quickly averted his eyes. "Hiei is a good fighter, no?"

"Yes, he is an excellent fighter." Yukina stated. Of course she also suspected that he was her long lost brother. For some reason he would never come out and say it. Still she waited for him to admit it. In her heart she already knew the truth but he was stubborn. "He's very special."

"You like him don't you?"

"Of course."

Rin smiled, she'd thought so. If the two cared so much for each other, why weren't they mates? Why not be with the one you loved? Maybe they just needed help getting together. Kuzuma decided to take a break, so Kouga decided to have a go at Yusuke. The detective happily accepted the challenge. The two started going at each other, fists blazing. The big lug ran his way over to the two girls.

"Yukina, did you see how brave Kuwabara was?"

"Yes, you fought well." Yukina said.

"But you lost." Rin stated, you should always tell the truth.

"Hey now, it was a draw, I just decided to come spend some time with my Yukina."

"No, you lost I saw." Rin added. The big man flushed under the scrutiny.

"Now, don't be saying that." He pointed a finger at her.

"The girl only speaks the truth." Hiei landed next to them, right next to Yukina. "You lost, get over it dolt."

"Stuff it ugly, I didn't lose. I just decided I had enough." How dare they insult him in front of Yukina.

"Hiei isn't ugly, he's very cute." Rin stated. She wanted to tell the big orange hair guy, that he was the one facially challenged.

"Well, he's a shrimp." He countered.

"He's appealling, he's around the same height as me and Yukina. I dare you to call one of us a shrimp." Rin felt her ire rising. Why must people insult others just because they couldn't handle the truth.

"You're both girls." As if that explained everything.

"That is a sexist remark. So a sex has to have certain standards? Do all humans think like that?" The siblings watched the debate. Rin continued, "I'd like to point out the fact that even though Hiei isn't as tall as you, he is better looking than you. Even with your height I'd prefer to have him lay me. Let me also say your sister is tall, taller than most human females. Yet I think she is very pretty and she has a strong personality. Most youkai would be proud to have her as a mate. Humans seem to base their mating needs on stupid things, while youkai see whats important."

"Hey, don't yell at me. I didn't do anything," He stammered.

"Yes, you did. You insulted Hiei because you couldn't handle the truth. Why did you call him names when he only repeated what I said. I noticed you didn't insult me. Why is that?"

Shizuru elbowed Keiko and Kagome nodding towards the four, "This should be good."

"I don't insult girls. I have an honor code."

"So, you're saying because I'm a girl, you didn't call me ugly."

"Ummmmm, yeah something like that."

Rin stood up, glaring at the ugly redhead. "That is so wrong, since I now know that you would have insulted me as well. And the only thing that saved me from your foul mouth was the fact that I have a vagina, you were still probably thinking the insult all the same."

"Thats not true, I don't think you're ugly. You're actually kind of cute." He smiled at her.

"You still insulted someone for no reason, its rude and uncalled for. You're as bad as Kouga!" Rin pointed a finger at him. "When men can't handle the truth, they start yelling and cursing. You lost, accept it and I think you should apologize to Hiei."

"I didn't lose and I'm not apologizing to that shrimp."

A hand came out and struck him hard across the face. Everyone gasped at seeing the girl thats usually so pleasant, strike out. "By insulting him because of his height you are also insulting Yukina and I."

Kagome ran up to her, "Um, Rin are you okay?"

She turned and gave Kagome a smile. "I'm wonderful. Sorry if I'm yelling too loud."

"You go girl! Bout time someone shut him up." Shizuru elbowed her brother who was rubbing his sore cheek. "She's got a point."

"She just has the hots for Hiei." Dumb girl hit him, lucky for her, he had an honor code.

"Better than having the hots for you, at least she wouldn't have to put a bag over his head." Shizuru added.

"HAHAHAHA, she got you there Kuwabara." Yusuke shouted.

"Shut up, Yurameshi." He knew better than to yell at his sister.

Rin was blushing at his comment. She didn't have these so called hots for Hiei. True she found him to very attractive but he made her stomach feel funny. Kagome saw the girl's embarrassment and grabbed her hand. "I'm thirsty Rin, lets go get something to drink."

"So how does it feel to get the snot slapped out of you by someone shorter bro?"

"Hmph, I'm suprised she could reach that high. Probably had to jump."

Hiei decided to leave, he landed on Genkai's roof. He watched the miko take the girl into the house. Her comments left him confused, she'd jumped to his defense. Then why didn't she say anything to him for insulting the baka first? Then again he was only speaking the truth in calling him a dolt. The boy was an idiot. Yet he'd thrown the first insult. Her other words echoed in his mind. Did she really find him attractive?

Dinner was cooked outside that evening. Genkai had Yusuke fetch the grill, while Yukina prepared the steak. Rin was inside mentally yelling at herself. That was the second time in her life she'd actually struck another person. The first was Kouga's mate, Akita. The woman had been insulting, Ayame that day. Rin got mad all of a sudden, she hit the woman in the face with a closed fist. They'd been fighting over the woman's scandalise ways. Ayame had been angered to hear that she was being with other men and being unfaithful to her lifelong friend. So Akita called Ayame an uptight bitch and swore to steal Sesshoumaru from her. Rin wasn't sure what happened then she just remembered striking the woman.

Growing up she'd been kept away from most violence. The most she'd seen was in her early childhood before her lord had come along. He'd tried to protect her from everything after that. Rin looked over towards the big idiot she'd hit, he seemed fine so it was okay.

Shizuru walked up to her, "Don't worry about it. He gets hit all the time." She sat next to the girl, lighting a cigarette.

"Okay, I'm going to see if Yukina needs any help outside."

Shizuru watched her walk away and smiled. She had a feeling there was something explosive underneath all that sweet packaging. She felt someone sit down beside her. She turned her head, "Oh its you."

Kouga sat down trying to ignore the girl. He'd watched Rin walk away, he was sure she had sensed him coming. Even after all these years she avoided him like the plaque. He knew why, he was sure even Kagome knew why.

Shizuru had noticed it also. Everytime the wolf got close Rin moved. "Why doesn't she like you?"

"What makes you think she doesn't like me?"

"Don't play coy, we both know she doesn't. She runs like a scared little rabbit. What did you do to her?"

"Shut up, none of your business." He couldn't change the past.

"Hit a sore subject did I?" She blew smoke in his direction. She eyed the youkai and studied him. He had a look of guilt on his face, so he had done something. "You didn't try to force yourself on her did you?"

He stood up suddenly. "Let me tell you something woman, I have no need to force myself on a woman."

"Sure you don't stud." She smirked at the look on his face. She put her cigarettte out in the ash tray. She stood up to head outside but her arm was grabbed. He turned her around to face him, oh she was going to kick his ass. He grabbed her behind the head bringing her mouth to meet his.

Her first impulse was to knee him in the groin then his tongue slid out to stroke her bottom lip. It sent an eletric shock down her spine causing her to gasp. He used it to his advantage and rammed his tongue inside to stroke hers. He deepened the kiss the moment she responded. His claws were embedded in her thick hair pulling her closer as he sought to taste every inch of her hot mouth. She felt her knees go weak as she explored his mouth. Her tongue brushed across one of his fangs, bringing her to her senses.

"Get off me," She pushed him away.

"Hnn." He left her standing there, first things first. He was going to find Rin and put an end to her fear of him. Then he'd worry about the strange longing he had for the brash human woman.
