Sesshomaru must have been bringing me to release all through the night, even after he had been staying limp for some time. Half-delusional, but heat cycle in check, I saw the sun begin to bring light into the cave. My brother had just fallen asleep, perhaps thinking I was as well. Sated, but not sleepy, I took a second to look at my surroundings.
I had only two words. Holy. Shit. It was SO obvious someone had just spent a mating rut in here. I was lying in a puddle the size of a small lake. And it was getting cold. As I began to sit up, Sesshomaru spoke. I guess he wasn’t sleeping.
“Go get us something to eat, InuYasha. You should wash anyway. There’s a lake right outside.” he said, still laid back, eyes closed. It amazed me that he could still look so regal even sleeping.
“Ok,” I agreed. Picking up my clothes, I walked out and blinked back the sun.
He wasn’t kidding about the pond. The edge was literally five steps away. And it looked /very/ inviting.

After a nice swim, I started hunting. I’d show him just how good I’d gotten. Looking down from the trees, I saw a couple plump beavers just asking to be eaten. Watching them, I realized how
hungry I was. Carefully, I climbed down the tree and got as close as I dared before jumping. One noticed me and started trying to get away. I attacked the other first.
Quite pleased with myself, I returned to the cave with the beavers.
“Sesshomaru ” I called. “I got food ” He wasn’t there. Dropping the carcasses, I ran back outside.
There was no sign of him anywhere. And his scent ended at the lake. Had he abandoned me too? The jerk could’ve at least said good bye, or let me know he was leaving. I went back to the cave and ate my fill. I decided to hang around awhile, just in case I was wrong. I guess I was just hoping.
I stayed for two moon cycles before I started to hear about something called the Sacred Jewel of Four Souls and the priestess who guarded it, called Kikyo. Suddenly, I had a plan. Sesshomaru looked down on me because I was half human. What if I was able to get rid of that half? The Jewel was said to be quite powerful. If I could steal it from her, I could become a full demon, and then maybe Sesshomaru would let me travel with him again. It was lonely by myself. I didn’t want to be anymore.
The next day, I started out on my journey.
